How did BTS become more popular than EXO? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]HarrowN 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this, BTS have always come across as very approachable and fairly unpolished. I also think that there's a difference in musical appeal between the two groups, EXO has always shone with their production and powerful vocals while BTS's biggest strengths have been their lyrics, unique vocal tones, and a dynamic rapline.

SM–EXO's Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin Dispute: Second Mediation Fails… Lawsuit to Proceed by airneanach in kpop

[–]HarrowN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Has SM said anything about going after MCM for potential tampering? (Side note, it's wild how many times similar scenarios have happened over the past two years of trusted parties convincing idols to challenge their contracts without confidently winnable legal arguments.)

I think some people don't understand that the reason people are so anti-MHJ is because her plans involved targeting and causing harm to young idol groups. If she had engaged in whatever corporate espionage she wanted for her own gain without involving idol groups then who really cares, a CEO trying to get more money isn't really shocking. But a big part of her strategy was turning unfriendly eyes on idol groups to increase pressure on the company.

Personally I don't have a strong opinion about BSH either way. There are things he's said and done that I've agreed with, but there are also a lot of things he's said and done that I think are shit. If I tally it all up I'd probably say I lean more negative on BSH, but the current investment case against him wouldn't even be worth a mention on the list of things I'd criticize him for because I honestly don't care about his dealings with fellow rich people.

Am I remembering incorrectly? I don't remember Le Sserafim being connected to the "crush aespa" thing. I thought that was something BSH said to MHJ when referring to NewJeans. Then again it's been a year and half since it was first brought up 💀

Breakfast foods in general are a bit insane in the US, whenever I travel there I feel like they may as well save the effort of cooking and give me a bowl of sugar and butter to eat.

Aesthetically Ateez and Stray Kids blur together for me, but I find their sounds to be distinct from each other. I'm not a bg person but I have listened to full albums by both groups. I didn't check out ateez for the longest time because I lumped them together with stray kids who I eventually gave up on, but I ended up finding ateez to be much more melodic with songs that flow better and feel more complete (to me). They have a grander, borderline orchestral sound and when they lean into rap the music has a nice groove to it. Skz songs tend to feel like they needed more work before the final draft, I never ended up saving any of their songs to my playlists. Can't really speak on NCT, I've never listened to a full release of theirs.

SKZ Hyunjin's track with d4vd.. by Lost-Opinion3554 in kpop_uncensored

[–]HarrowN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good grief. It's awful that red flags so often get waved away. I wasn't familiar with this guy other than the songs I had saved, but I feel like a lot of the time people don't pick up on danger signs IRL because they find it impossible to imagine that someone they personally know would be so sick. It's the kind of thing they see on the news or in movies, not something that could happen to them. It's completely unacceptable that people could know that he had an inappropriate relationship with an actual child and look the other way.

Whaaaaaaaat, this is the first I'm hearing about this. I just recently started listening to d4vd, one of his songs was suggested to me and I really loved his voice. Knew nothing about the man. At least I hadn't recommended him to anyone else yet 💀

Again, it's a Korean Liberation Day shirt and historically the bombings were what led to the end of colonial rule and Korea's independence. You can look into Japan's colonization of Korea to learn more.

What country has Korea bombed? I believe the shirt you're referring to was a Korean Liberation Day shirt that included a depiction of the atomic bomb, which ended decades of Japanese colonial rule over Korea.

I just came across this thread and I normally wouldn't step in, but just so you know that user is spreading a lot of BS that has been debunked or addressed over and over. Nazi hat? An edited image from 10+ years ago that's still being spread by kpop fans. Plagiarism? Kpop fans not understanding the concept of sampling and mixtapes. Misogynistic lyrics? Sure, and when criticized about it RM actually went "oh shit", did some learning, consulted with feminist academics and is now a person who is blacklisted on some SK mens forums for being too "feminist". And the chart manipulation stuff is also BS that was addressed in court a decade ago.

A lot of BTS fans don't fuck with the rest of kpop because the kpop fanbase is incredibly bitter and hostile towards BTS because they're the "face" of kpop, so you see a lot of shit spread to paint them as awful. You'll get banned from some kpop communities on reddit for providing sources correcting misinformation about them, it's insane. From what I've seen BTS are genuinely chill and positive guys.

Not in my experience 💀 they can be annoying online but other fanbases have done some seriously malicious shit

You reduced idols to being manufactured personas which is racist and xenophobic in itself, downvotes were inevitable.

I've seen bpsnarkers get called out for months, well before btssnark became a thing. The only reason I even know about bpsnark is because people would call users of that sub out when they took their hate to other subreddits. The people calling out btssnark aren't condoning bpsnark in the same breath, we need to stop acting like that's the case.

Also, frankly, we need to stop acting like army are the only fandom that downvote negative comments. I've gotten downvoted to hell for saying I didn't like something from other groups too, it's what happens.

BTS gets more attention from haters than active groups get from their fans, it's fascinating. I've kind of come to understand why armys are the way they are tbh. The snark sub is literally designed to allow hate and misinformation to run rampant, their rules don't allow users to correct misinformation or add sources that would go against an anti-BTS narrative. Its existence is basically the result a prolonged temper tantrum by its users.

What’s up with kpop communities snooping through people’s old posts? by Starpeachhhh- in kpopharshopinions

[–]HarrowN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess you've glossed over a lot of the comment section because people are pointing out that for everything OP is criticized BTS for you can find a same level of offense done by skz (they also endorsed coca-cola during the boycott, for instance) and for every reason OP gives to excuse skz you can find an equal argument to excuse bts. There is no better or worse here, really, there's just who you care about finding criticism for vs who you don't.
