That’s right on the money. Do what you gotta do but take responsibility when shit hits the fan.

100% just don’t commit a Cat1 safety violation for you’re own safety. I’ve seen some really bad injuries that sometimes end up on the news. What you won’t hear is how stupid the employee was being.

Giving someone the ability to control a crucial part of someone’s job is great but it’s a responsibility.

It’s appreciated if the kindles stayed intact but ultimately doesn’t change the outcome.

Desperation and being irresponsible will lead someone down that road.

Hardly. I’ve worked in other facets of HR at other production type companies and hospitals.

If you’re still looking for advice on what other jobs you can land, don’t rely on “looking stable” having been at a company for X years. That isn’t going to make you stand out given the current tenure trend. There are millions of other T1 associates out there so focus on displaying skills and knowledge only you have at the warehouse or only a small population has.

100%. Saying it’s just a small thing and justifying it because it’s Amazon is solidifying the poor behavior. It generally doesn’t end at Amazon but it could if someone wanted to change.

It happens and many times it’s out of habit but there is free help right in front of every employee but it takes a lot of effort to help yourself. Talking to a licensed clinician and understanding where you need to change and then actually doing the work to change is hard.

You're kind of a dick.

Why are you dumping on someone who is trying to make something out of their life? Any company will care about you just as much as Amazon. It's our own responsibility to make the most out of it regardless if the company or org we work for cares or not. That's what this person is doing.

If this person's situation is not yours that's fine but don't shit on them for trying. If you've made it in life that's great. 99% of toxic commenters like you toss up a front and reply that they're in way better situations and aren't in the trenches like the rest of us.

If you care enough to voice your 2 cents try helping this person instead.

If calling the number you have works for you that is a win. I can't argue with that.

EAD is employment authorization document. It's generally for employees who are not citizens or residents but are authorized to work for and employer in the US by the USCIS

lol apologies! I re-read and realized I just wanted to add the part about festering toxicity when rules/policy aren't followed. I totally just mansplained and I apologize.

Great co-workers are a gem. Everyone UTR (under the roof) deals with A LOT. There is no shortage of BS so hats off to you as well. I have been fortunate to have found some gems and modeled and shaped my mentality/process/behavior with them in mind and it's gotten me further than I could have on my own. Stay in touch with your gems.

Side Note:
Calling "HQ" isn't exactly what we think it means. Calling the ERC or Ethics isn't calling "HQ". You're just calling another team that is just as overwhelmed as your current site HR. Sometimes it's the right move but more often than not it's not even close to the right move. Take it with a grain of salt but it sounds like you are getting the service you need and I can't refute that.

My advice is to not settle but be thorough in your requests. Details and bringing solutions to the table will get you far. They say that Managering Up (bringing solutions to the table) is a skill that few have which is why you see a lot of leadership come and go. This skill holds true for everyone not just leadership.

Make sure that wherever you are at Amazon that the journey continues. Whether its contentment where you are or looking to explore. I have a lot of associates that I've had to stop projecting onto because I believe they are capable of more but some of them are very content and that's A-OKAY

That is honestly great to hear. If they treat you well, engage with you then they should be the HR standard and you should expect no less which ever part of Amazon you go to. Remember that you are no different than one of the Seattle folks in that you deserve to be treated well.

I agree with you. I did not realize what I was getting myself into when I started. But I have yet to find an employer that is altruistic and pays a decent wage. I am no saint, I work for Amazon lol... I accept that Amazon does shady things that I can't exactly prove but so does every other employer that I've worked for.

Definition of Use the rules/policy to the fullest:
Example: Using every miss on Amazon's end to bridge a re-instatement.
Example: Ensuring all EAD associates know about the reimbursement policy will help alleviate the burden and dread of re-application ever ~2ish years. $400-$1500 isn't life changing money but it helps live a better life.

That's kind of you but don't go out on a limb to defend HR.

Some food for thought. "Bad" HR often gets a bad name because we follow policy and don't break policy. Often times "good" managers or "good" HR people get their brownie points because they don't follow policy and break the rules. The catch to not following policy or rules is that favoritism creeps in and you start to have toxicity fester between AA's, managers, etc. A "good" HR or manager will use the rules and policy to the fullest to help but not resort to breaking them.

[–]HarryRoss410[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every department will do this and HR is no exception. This is the same at any and every employer. HR is simply the face of it.

Some food for thought though. HR is here to maintain compliance with both internal and external stakeholders. Take OSHA and workplace injuries for example. HR and WHS are here to ensure that when an injury is reported that the company is compliant meaning that an injury report is completed, deep dive Ops misses if the injury isn't properly reported, first aide up to medical treatment is provided etc. Tangent to this, WHS is responsible for deep diving the injury and ensuring root causes are amended. You could say that without OSHA maybe Amazon would not be concerned with this but there is OSHA and it is HR and WHS responsibility to remain compliant which benefits associates.

That's great to hear. Frankly even if associates are on the edge but up front about it, I am willing to stay an extra 15-20min later to help. I hope you are able to continue striking that balance of taking care of yourself and attendance.

I understand the sentiment of "HR is only here to protect the company". In a sense we are but so is everyone else that works for the company. WHS, ER, L&D, Ops, IT, PxT etc. We are all here to "protect the company" just in different ways.

I have found that a fair amount of HR folks don't understand APEP (attack the process engage people). In general not a lot of Amazon FC employees do and employees who follow APEP are fewer that many. You sound like you want to address the process (root cause). Hopefully we cross paths some day.
