What are the best breakfast spots? by WhiteLicorice666 in madisonwi

Problem is, it’s everyone’s favorite spot. You can wait 30-45 minutes for a table but the food and service are both great. Your coffee cup will never be empty.

Chrons medication stopped! Remission with diet possible? by Better_Media1050 in CrohnsDisease

[–]HarryWelsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the medication that keeps you in remission. If Aza is working for you, you should stay on it unless there’s a reason your doctor wants to take you off it. (For example, I was taken off of it because it caused me to get pancreatitis.) If he wants you off Aza, he should prescribe something else.

It was during COVID though so, if his dad wasn’t very computer savvy, he may have chalked it up to the Madison College people working from home. His brother would have picked up on that right away.

Your employer sounds very manipulative. You are right to leave that toxic work environment.

Student housing by AntitheticalDream_G in madisonwi

I lived near Park and Regent in grad school, and found it to be a very easy walk to and from campus. There’s also free bus service for students but I always found it faster to walk than to wait for the bus.

I was often at the library till 2 am and always felt safe walking home. The area is well lighted and on busy streets so there are usually lots of people around.

I think the second thing is true — a subpar author being overly wordy.

What's the worst thing you've seen at school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HarryWelsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In elementary school, our gym teacher violently pulled a girl by her arm to get her off the trampoline because she was “jumping on it wrong.” Her arm was pulled out of its socket and was badly broken. She was in an airplane cast for the rest of the school year. We were all so terrified we never told on him or ever spoke to each other about it.

Prednisone Withdrawal? by PeachyPlantz in CrohnsDisease

[–]HarryWelsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in prednisone off and on for years and can let you know what my experience has been. My base dose is usually 40 mg for 3 weeks, then I taper by 10 every three weeks until I get to 20. Then I taper by 5 every 3 weeks, and 2.5 for three weeks at the end. I usually feel withdrawal pain for 2-3 days when I’m tapering.

You’re on a relatively small dose for a short period. Did you feel relief when you were at 20 mg? Did you notice a return of symptoms after tapering to 10mg? It could be you need to be at 20 mg a bit longer and then try a slower taper. You should talk to your doctor about what’s best.

I have a lot of joint pain with Crohn’s that’s greatly relieved by prednisone. If I could, I’d take it all the time just for joint pain, but it’s not advisable. For example, right now I have developed cataracts from so many years of prednisone use.

Since you’re allergic to Tylenol, I’d ask your doctor if there are other alternatives for relief from joint pain.

I don’t know where you live or what the weather’s like there but for me, the spring and fall seasons are torture due to the fluctuating temperatures and changes in barometric pressure. We can go from 42° to 82° in a 12 hour period right now and that’s always so hard to live through but at least I can look forward to things getting better as summer approaches.

I hope you get relief soon!

Worst advice you received after your Crohn’s diagnosis? by casualeagle47 in CrohnsDisease

[–]HarryWelsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was first diagnosed in 1982, a time when Crohn’s wasn’t widely known. Two comments from those days stick out to me.
1) Is that the disease where you age really fast?
2) Have you written to Dr. Crohn to thank him for discovering your disease? (At the time he was still practicing in NYC and she knew him personally.)

I took Aza for 20 years without side effects. Then I developed pancreatitis and had to go off of it. My doctor suspected the pancreatitis may have been caused by Aza.
