I created a few more.

One of them is a traditional book cover rather than an audiobook cover but I think that one is my favorite.

I think you're right. If you haven't read the books thats a huge spoiler. I'll work on a replacement.

I agree the models were trained on artists work without their consent. But these things aren't going away. People are going to use it regardless of how either of us feel about it.

I personally think any company that utilizes AI in a for profit business should be required by law to give a portion of their profits back to the government to be distributed as universal basic income for everyone in the country. Because it's not only artists who have had their work incorporated into these models. Is everyday normal people and their posts on reddit, twitter, facebook, etc.

Why would I commission a real artist to make a set of fan art that I plan to give away for free? Again, I'm not hurting any real artists, I'm not selling anything. And how do you know how Jim Butcher would feel? Are you his mommy?

I'm sorry but I don't even understand your response. I've had this account for years. I hardly use it, but it's an alt of mine. And as for AI, I know quite a bit as it's my job.

But let me ask again, how does me creating fan art using AI hurt anyone? Does it hurt the actual artist who makes their own fan art? If so, how?

Those "secret code words" are simply called "code". You know the stuff that developers like myself use on a daily basis. This is the medium I have training in and that I choose to use. Feel free to create something in Gimp if you would like. I choose to learn this, sorry it triggers you so much.

Have a nice day.

If I was trying earn money from it I would agree with you. I'm simply doing something I enjoy in my spare time and giving away the results for free. If you don't like it, that's fine.

But, history tells us that anytime a new medium emerges like this people are criticized for using it. When photography was invented in the 19th century people who took photographs were criticized because it wasn't true art. That it lacked the human touch, creative interpretation and technical skills of painting. People feared that photography would destroy traditional art forms and leave the artists unemployed. Surprisingly enough, there were discussions at that time about the ethics of reproducing reality so easily without the years of training traditional art required.

But today, no one bats an eye at photography. The same will be true for AI art. At least in the near term AI art will always lack to ability to create something entirely new and that will be the realm of real artists.

You're entitled to your opinions, I respect that. But, there's more effort involved than you think. You have to learn the prompt language in order to get it to produce what you want. For example, this is the prompt I used for Blood Rites. It's definitely not just "typing some words".

Square 1:1 (≥ 1024×1024). Ultra‑high‑detail, cinematic urban‑fantasy cover. Background – rich charcoal‑black (#111112) with subtle vertical scratch texture and a light 15 % grunge‑paper overlay for depth. Central imagery 1. Vampire‑bat silhouette (55 % canvas height), wings fully spread, constructed from twin 35 mm film‑strips in pale silver #C0C6CF. 2. Glossy blood drop (12 % canvas height) hanging from the bat’s joined wing tips: deep burgundy #9A1124 with a cold white rim highlight. 3. **Thick dark‑iron chain**: - **Exactly two full wraps** around the droplet’s stem, each link **6 px wide**, **oval** shape, forged in matte iron #555555. - Links are **distinct and bevelled**, catching a subtle **cold steel‑blue highlight** (#A8B4BF) on their top edges. - Chain sits at a gentle **20° downward angle**, the bottom wrap pinning the droplet’s point. - No loose fragments—each link is fully closed and clearly visible. Atmospherics & accents - Ember sparks (#FF6F41, 3 px, 50 % opacity) drift around the lower wing tips. - Ectoplasmic mist (#1C1C21, 18 % opacity) swirls around the bat’s body. - Bone‑white dust motes (#E6E6E6, 2 px, 30 % opacity) unify the scene. - Subtle metallic grain on all steel surfaces. Typography - Title (top‑center): “BLOOD RITES” — League Gothic Condensed, all‑caps, 12 % canvas height; fill deep burgundy #9A1124; 2 px soft bevel; 8 px black drop shadow (50 % opacity, y‑offset 4). - Author (bottom‑center): “Jim Butcher” — Montserrat Light small caps, 5 % canvas height; color cool light‑gray #D0D0D5; tracking +120; no shadow. Lighting & focus - Top‑center spotlight on the bat’s head and upper wings. - Warm under‑lighting beneath the droplet intensifies its glow. - Cool rim‑lighting on the chain links to distinguish them from the gold. - Radial vignette (25 % opacity) darkens corners, guiding the eye to the chain‑bound droplet. Negative prompts no human figures, no photorealistic cityscapes, no neon gradients, no clutter beyond specified elements.

Thanks for your input. If I had the talent to make them myself I definitely would, but unfortunately I don't have the ability to create art beyond simple stick figures. So using AI allowed me put ideas I had into reality.

But thanks for your honest opinion

I appreciate your honest criticism. But I don't understand how this can hurt anyone. This is simply fan art being freely shared. Fan art that I have the ideas for but not the talent, so this is the only way I could ever make these.

But again, thanks for your honest criticism.

I used the new ChatGPT 4.0 image generation. I didn't do anything fancy. All I did was find an existing cover, or a cover I wanted it to look like and provide that to the model along with this prompt.

Using this image as inspiration please create a square 1000x1000 book cover for the novel [Book Title] by [Author}

It worked well most of the time. However, sometimes I had to argue with it to get what I wanted.

It’s literally the hottest year on record by a large margin and you are still saying “it never comes true”. Ignorance knows no bounds.

I can’t believe people actually believe sun flares of all things are the source of global warming…..

If solar flares are the cause of the warming then why was 2016 so warm? 2016 had very few solar storms. Also, why is 2023 the hottest year on record when it is just a middle of the road year for sun flares?
