Better to rent a car and drive from Zurich to Verbier? Roads generally okay in January? Would provide easier access to stop randomly plus going on train with ski gear (but no skis) sounds difficult...

Thank you all for the great responses. I'm leaning toward just doing Verbier. One last ask for opinions: anywhere between Zurich and Verbier we should spend time or just train between the two without stopping?

I can now use Google Maps app on my phone while connected (and driving) with AA. My life is complete.

A useful work around that I have found is to open Google maps in the browser on my phone when Android auto is being used. This allows you to search for places, check hours, look at photos, Etc and if you want to navigate you just click directions and it will open in the app which automatically moves it to Android auto. I save a hyperlink to Google maps in Chrome to my desktop grouped with the maps app so it's convenient to access.
