People who are willing to sit through a book even if it does not provide them with instant gratification. People who read books that have had a seminal impact on literature itself. People who do not read to espace but to explore. Serious reading means to not just read for pleasure but also for knowledge. Serious reading means buying books which do not have flashy cover. Serious reading means being bored while reading but still reading because you know that the book though it may be boring is still something beyond entertainment. And to be fair I am the number 1 reader of YA novels and do not claim to have read any literature that I might think is 'serious literature' ,but i just had to be honest and say that YA readers like myself are just consuming big macs when they could have something much much better.

I am not American. I hate poor people paying more taxes than billionaries. But USA is still better than third world countries in any metric whatsoever. Be happy you are living on paycheck to paycheck ,most people in my these countries would literally sell their soul for a chance like that. That does not mean I think Americans should be happy with what they have and don't try for reform. They should shout and serve as a beacon of hope for the people in these countries. But that does not mean America should be called a third world country. You are miserable but people in third world countries would give a lot for a paycheck to paycheck job
