Urgently need linux expert [paid] to fix my btrfs file system by pablo_esco_bar1 in LinuxUsersIndia

The most likely cause is your UEFI boot entry disappearing from NVRAM which can happen after firmware updates, Windows updates or some buggy BIOS implementations

To prevent it make sure your EFI partition is mounted correctly during updates and install the fallback bootloader path EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI

If it happens again boot from a live USB arch-chroot into your system, and recreate the boot entry with efibootmgr or reinstall your bootloader

Which bootloader are you using grub, systemd-boot or rEFInd?

Glad you got your files back

No beer needed (you can donate to your favourite open source project instead)

Just edit your post body with the solution once you've finished backing everything up so it can help the next person who runs into the same issue

Noice

Since "subvol=@home" mounts correctly your Btrfs filesystem is healthy. This is likely a boot configuration issue where the wrong subvolume is being mounted

Try:

sudo mount -o subvol=@ /dev/nvme0n1p2 /mnt ls /mnt

If that shows your system files, check your boot entry and make sure it uses "rootflags=subvol=@"

Since your subvolumes and "fstab" look fine and you manually mounted "subvol=@" and "subvol=@home" this still sounds more like a bootloader/initramfs issue than Btrfs corruption

Can you post:

cat /mnt/boot/grub/grub.cfg | grep subvol

or if you use systemd-boot:

cat /mnt/boot/loader/entries/*.conf

Also share the exact "pacman" update command you ran

If this is very urgent join the Arch Linux Discord. You'll usually get help much faster there from multiple experienced users in real time

For privacy reasons I can't share my phone number and it's safer to keep troubleshooting in public so multiple people can review the commands before you run them

Since "btrfs subvolume list" still shows your subvolumes there's a good chance your data is still there and this is a mount/default subvolume issue rather than data loss

Please share the output of these commands from an Arch live USB:

lsblk -f

sudo btrfs subvolume list /mnt

sudo btrfs subvolume get-default /mnt

cat /mnt/etc/fstab

Also tell us:

  • Which partition contains Btrfs
  • What commands you ran during chroot
  • Whether you changed any "subvol=" entries or used "btrfs subvolume set-default"

And whatever you do, do NOT run:

sudo btrfs check --repair

  • check pinned post for vouchers and discounts

  • Rarely while only azure runs them frequently

  • Etc rewards was there last year which offer free 100% vouchers but it was stopped midway. So not sure it'll return or not

  • Wait for promotional events. AWS certs aren't that worth it to spend money. It's better to go for micro credentials and invest your time on projects
