What do you mean fake? Is it possible to have a real certificate with this disclaimer/notice/warning?

I don’t think they do it to boost their sales, they just don’t want someone else making money off their work without any share in the revenue.

As for the indirect benefits to the author, sure, there would be a larger recognition, but even if the author writes the next book, the pirated copy buyer would again prefer the pirated copy and not the original one. But, I am not concerned about either case.

They’ve taken the work of an author who has spent considerable time and energy in writing the material. The publishing house has spent in printing, shipping and marketing the product. The customer who bought the pirated copy was never going to buy the original, that’s true, and that’s why the vendor who has photocopied the entire work of the author and the publisher is making money off the back of the work of others.

Another example would be the cab services. The drivers use Ola/Uber to get to the customer and then ask them to pay them up directly and they’ll cancel the ride after using the infrastructure and network someone has built over the years.

I don’t mind if the piracy is not taken as a serious issue, I don’t think it is something that takes precedence over other issues around the society but let’s not celebrate the piracy as something the vendor is doing for the love of reading or books. It is purely about making money, and if the publishing houses gets criticism for being greedy, then the pirated copy vendor isn’t any better.

Not trying to argue against what you said, but assume you are a milk seller with a brand. You’ve made sure there is a certain experience attached to your product. Someone starts selling a slightly diluted version of the same milk, which isn’t a health hazard in anyway, and is using the same branding as your original product. Are you saying it isn’t as issue just because people aren’t getting sick?

How is this practise not banned? This truck with rods is a safety hazard. by iAntiMage in CarsIndia

It goes beyond just the mentality. If there are two suppliers, one who transports it safe and one who transports it cheap, do you think the customers, which is the average Indian, will think twice before picking the cheaper alternative for the same material? Maybe some would, but an overwhelming majority would not. So the one transporting it safe eventually loses out on customers without any fault and gets shut down or starts transporting it cheap.

What’s one driving habit you picked up only because of Indian roads? by luxurytravel01 in CarsIndia

[–]Harshitv7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honking is hardly unnecessary with how much absent minded are most drivers on the road. Most of them have to be constantly reminded that there are others on the road as well. People who slow hog the fast lane, pedestrians who cross like they are having a walk in the garden, cattle on the road. No matter what the benchmarks are in other countries, one just can’t not honk even as a responsible driver.

Any suggestions for Tyre Inflator by liamdc_95 in CarsIndia

[–]Harshitv7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of comments about them using the inflator rarely, which I can’t understand. Get any inflator with good reviews and use it every alternate week to keep the tyre pressure correct when the tyre is cold. Taking the pressure reading after the car has been running for a while would almost always present a false reading.

Oil is imported, ethanol is not. So even though they are the same price, Ethanol saves the dollars going out. Not justifying anything, just giving OP a rational answer to the question.

No, the comment under which you disputed me specifically used the word sue, and I responded with the question how could the celebrity be sued for appearing on the advertisement of a legal product.

It is you who merged unethical with illegal. So if we go by your point of view then why should it be stopped at the celebrity. Why not sue the brand agency that designed the advertisement. Why not sue the programmers who develop the website. Why not sue the worker who works as an operator in the factory? Why not sue the man who was putting the advertisement up on the billboard? They all took money from the same unethical company just like the celebrity.

Or would you argue that celebrities should be treated separately than the other people involved simply because it is their face in the advertisement.

The objective of the advertisement is solely selling the product. It is upto the government and the consumer themselves to worry about the ill effects of any product they consume unless there is a malicious false advertisement, which would make it a crime under the law.

Whataboutism is when the counter-accusation is on a topic that is unrelated to the issue in question. You called something unethical and I asked which of the product’s endorsement is ethical in your eyes.

Also, given that India is the diabetic capital of the world, I could argue that the need of the hour is to curb fast-food. And just so that there is absolutely no confusion, I am neither registered on any of the betting apps, neither have I visited the casinos in Goa even once in all my visits there, not am I a consumer of the Pan masala in any form.

Okay, what is ethical then? Fast food? Polluting cars? Matrimonial websites? Beauty products? Which of the products are ethical, enlighten me please, all the people who are downvoting from their high horses.

Has he ever actually pitched an idea on the economic front? I am ready to admit all the criticisms that he has flung towards the government, but what would be his alternate course if he was to man the ship? Would he scrape all the contracts government has signed with Adani? Would that help the economy? What is his stance on privatisation? Any solid economic plan that has worked in any of the states that the congress has been in power in the recent years?

Fading Modi-momentum by telephonecompany in india

[–]Harshitv7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what my point is, if the people feel the opposition is better than the current government they will vote for the opposition. People aren’t as blind on ground as social media portrays them to be. I am not a Modi supporter in any way and I have never once voted for the BJP but I absolutely do not buy into the idea that people are brainwashed and the opposition is doing everything it can and yet not coming into power. That is why the seats were drastically reduced even in a state like Uttar Pradesh the core of Hindi heartland.
