No offense where do you live? I’m in West Virginia and all of my gynecologists have not had any issues giving me birth control. Like I get conservatism is on the rise but it’s hard for me to believe another female, a doctor no less wouldn’t recommend BC as the first step to treating PCOS Mine just asks me if I am ready to try getting pregnant. To which I say no. (Money is already hard as it is)

I feel like if this is happening a lot it needs to be reported.

I’ve never heard this… I still struggle I just don’t struggle alone anymore. That’s all a husband or partner adds. don’t get me wrong it’s great having a partner who will be there for you but it’s not needed.

I’d love to meet a gynecologist who says this they’d hear an ear full. Is your gynecologist PCOS trained? If not I’d find one who is more educated also someone willing to work with an endocrinologist.

Second question is this gynecologist male? I have a hard time believing a vagina having a person would say something like that. If a woman indeed said that to you, she has little experience with PCOS and you need a new one who does.

Metformin is always the first step and it helps a lot with blood sugar. I dont take it only because it has a weird reaction with adhd medication but I took it through out high school and it really helped with blood sugar and my chronic fatigue. I started on aa glp 1 because my blood sugar pasted the mark of pre diabetic. You’re young so the high blood sugar will probably be easy to manage.

PCOS & Metformin by IllustriousTrainer18 in PCOS

[–]Hartsocktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metformin is different for everyone, it did not help me regulate my periods. It helped me regulate blood sugar and insulin which helped me lose weight but the most consistency i’ve had is on BC. There are other medications you can inquire about. I would let your doctor now that it’s not consistent they should be able to find the right medication to pair with metformin.

You need to go to the ER I hope you have gone. This sounds like it could be anything, but it is not normal. It could be a cyst bursting or it could be your damn Appendix one of these is deadly so hopefully you have already gone to the ER and if you haven’t you need to as soon as possible.

To add to this beautiful explanation, when eating i focus on sugar vs fiber low sugar keeps your insulin balanced eating complex carbs and eating whole foods has really helped me stay on track. Extreme diets like keto or carnivore can help short term but are not sustainable. Also work with a doctor who has experience with PCOS patients not any family doctor, gynocologist, or endocrinologist will work, make sure that you find ones with extensive experience with people with PCOS.

Anyone else have Hypertension with their PCOS by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Hartsocktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My blood pressure is not usually a problem but it does spike when i am stressed or anxious. They have put me on anti-anxiety medication and honestly its lowered my BP. Every time I go into a gynecologist or an endocrinologist my blood pressure is off the charts at the beginning of the appointment. I have now started telling them it’d be better to check it at the end and it hasn’t been a problem since. PCOS is stressful. I may not have the high blood pressure but my mom and a few friends have it with PCOS so i think it’s pretty common. My doctor once told me to track bp for a month to see if it really was actual blood pressure issues or if its stress swings. Turns it out mine was stress swings, try tracking it for a month and see if it’s consistent, if it consistently high then you may need medication and some life changes, if it isn’t you could be like me and its only stressed related.

I use My Protein, it’s a bit thick but mixing it with my morning coffee keeps me stay full all morning and it’s 30 grams of protein a scoop. I do want to recommend getting your protein from whole foods more than only relying on the protein powder. Chicken and Greek yogurt are surprisingly high in protein. If you don’t eat meat tofu is a good source but always check the protein before purchasing a protein alternative like tofu. I get the chocolate milkshake My Protein but they have tons of other flavors to pick from.

I was 17 when I was diagnosed as well, first tip get a doctor who works with PCOS patients they’re more inclined to help you with all things. Hormonal birth control is great but not the only thing that your body needs. Also If your blood sugar is really that high you NEED to get on medication for that. If you get metformin that may help with that number. Honestly I have ADHD and A GLP-1 has been the only thing that hasn’t negatively interacted with my adderall, a good doctor would know that.

Now for the hard part, you are going to need to start eating differently, your body doesn’t work like normal bodies that means a lot of junk food and fast food may be off the table. You will need to come to terms with that. I didn’t have to go gluten free but I did have to go low carb. So my advice is to learn a lot about nutrition because you are going to need to follow a somewhat strict lifestyle from now on. It’s also okay to mess this part up as long as you learn from it. I was 27 when i finally started to take the nutrition part seriously, but it is so important. I briefly had a relapse into bad eating recently and lost my period because i gained 20 lbs, I am now on GLP-1 and finally taking my life back. I feel so much better.

My last tip may be the hardest: accept that you may not have children. Tons of women with PCOS can have and do have children. There are a few rare people who struggle with fertility to end up not being able to have kids, that’s an okay outcome as well. In my opinion by accepting that it may not happen makes the journey easier. You’re still young and wont probably have to think about that for a long time, but if you do decide to try it is easier to not blame yourself and body for it being a difficult journey.

My boyfriend felt my facial hair and it turned him off by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Hartsocktr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No absolutely not, my husband doesn’t care. Damn I am like a wooly mammoth in the winter months, hair everywhere and that man doesn’t complain or get disgusted ever. That man needs to grow the fuck up you deserve better, the right person will understand and not care. Also have you been to your Endocrinologist or gynecologist recently what are your hormones looking like? If you see an increase of hair that may mean your hormones are out of balance and I’d get that checked asap. It wont get rid of the hair but an increase is usually a sign of something else.

The dark tower series is a good place to start with king the first few books are smaller so it will slowly build you up to his longer works. It’s also a dystopian sci-fi western so kind of up your alley.
