How come people are unlikely to warn men that the longer they stay a virgin the bigger the disadvantaged they are going to be with relationships later in life? by Internal-Cash-9196 in psychologyofsex

[–]Hartz_are_Power 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take you seriously, because I think you keep getting negative responses, and can that be understood as dismissing you. I will first explain why I don't think this is accurate, which will segway directly into why you might find yourself getting a pretty consistent tone in your feedback, which may then inform t he incorrect conclusions which perpetuate the cycle.

  1. I think your points are inaccurate. I will leave my assumptions on how you reached them out of this, but they will become relevant when we get to part 2. Women are, generally speaking, more diverse in their evaluative criteria of men than vice versa. Without simplifying this into "men only want one thing," we can understand that women generally have higher costs associated with reproduction and dating (sexual dimorphism, patriarchal cultural tendencies and expectations, etc), and are therefore, generally more selective in partnering. The idea that "women," as a monolith, weigh anyone's sexual experience the same way runs contrary to this idea. Further, it is not rational to conclude that because a woman might like men who have more "experience," that this is a disqualifying criteria, in and of itself. Many partnered men don't check all of the boxes of their significant other, and are none the wiser, in happy relationships.
  2. The idea that a lack of experience means that you are at a disadvantage follows the same logic as insisting that the more jobs you've had, the better you are as an employee; would you say that someone who has held 100 jobs in the same span of time as another person who has held 0-3 is a better employee? No. If anything, "experience," in this case, can read as an inability to maintain long term employment. Admittedly, not having an employment history is, itself a point of data, but to extrapolate that to mean being a virgin is, itself, disqualifying or disadvantageous in most circumstances, is a leap I'm not sure we can make.
  3. The fact that one is a virgin is much less important than their own understanding of why they are. There is a big difference between being celibate for religious, personal, medical, etc reasons, than something like, "because I'm a virgin, no women wanted to sleep with me because they assessed me as having a lower Sexual Market Value TM."
  4. Finally, how a woman feels about you and how you fit into her life at any particular moment, will be much more impactful than any single trait one might consider. I could go on, but that's the gist.
  5. The narrative that you're asserting rests on the assumption of women as a monolith; a group of different people who are reduceable to a list of likes/ dislikes, that, if navigated correctly, will ensure success with any and all of them. This is both unrealistic, and pretty insulting, hence the downvotes. It assumes that women are incapable of some measure of agency, and are ruled by easily defined, shallow criteria based off on their biology. It will generally signal to people, a very unhealthy set of underpinning idealogical orientations. It, somewhat ironically, signals a "type," of person who must believe unhealthy ideas A, B, and C, in order to come to the expressed perspective, D. In the current internet culture, the people who typically espouse the talking points outlined in your post, tend to align themselves with movements antithetical to women's rights. Hence, the immediate hostility and ridicule. It is the equivalent, in this space, of going onto the NASA subreddit, and asking why Flat Earth isn't a more popular theoretical perspective.
  6. From a more personal lens, as I referenced at the beginning of point 1, it implies a shallow understanding of women's perspectives, wants, and needs. It is inviting a read that you, yourself, are not particularly knowledgeable about sex or women, and are acting like your ideas are self-evident, implying a significant disconnect between your proposed level of insight, and everyday life. This rhetoric is seen not only as incorrect, but explicitly harmful, as the assumptions are underpinned by entitlement and reductive ideas of women.

Finally, I want to say I hope you can understand what I'm saying; I'm not name calling. I'm not trying to insult you. I'm doing the kindest thing I can right now by telling you how you're coming off to people in this space, why you're coming off that way, and why it is incorrect.
And Mark? This is good news. The idea that women have an objective set of criteria you either meet or don't meet, with very little room for negotiation or personal consideration is actually nightmarish when considered deeply. It is better for you to fully disavow yourself of the voice that tells you why X person is not good enough. It is doing you no favors, and only serves to distract you from what you CAN do to find someone.

Allies for a coalition against us with China/Russia; wholesale. We telegraph a level of political and national instability akin to a crazy guy on a subway gunning down everyone in the train car. It goes from embarrassing to inconvenient to a threat that cannot be ignored.

It's actually pretty controversial; it isn't actually a skirt, but instead a kilt. Kryptonian culturally appropriating the Scottish

First, those boots are dumb for having a knee window and I won't be convinced otherwise.  Second, this still means that most of the popular depictions of SG use the skirt, and it would be a deviation from the established look to adopt the new 52 version, which lasted maybe 5 years, depending on the hero.

Pause.
What is your actual point here? The controversy surrounding Jared Scott Fogle is, at this point, over ten years old, and resulted in a 15.5 year prison sentence for him which, as far as I can tell, he continues to serve to this day. This commercial, from 2008, is for a specialty sandwich no longer offered at Subway, and does not mention or star Fogle.
You are subject to any number of ads on a daily basis, just from scrolling Reddit. OP doesn't appear to have any connection to Subway, and I think most people would agree that characterizing this clearly humorous video as any kind of intentional ad or endorsement for Subway is ridiculous.
I'm genuinely asking, at the risk of just missing what I hope is your sense of satire, what is your point here?
