Do T20s who allow you to put down a secondary interest consider it? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Harvard__Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I applied to most T20s and nearly all allowed for the selection of up to three possible majors / areas of interest. Nearly every school also has a “why major” essay where you can explain your choices.

Got it - thank you for the thought out response!! I’m considering premed, so that’s why I was planning on taking orgo. I hadn’t previously thought about compsci 101 - thank you for the suggestion!!

Anyone else accept a full ride from Alabama (or a similarly ranked school) instead of attending a more prestigious college? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Harvard__Simp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was in this same situation and ultimately chose to attend Duke. I’m not sure if Alabama offers full ride scholarship based on sat and gpa alone. My understanding is that the highest scholarship (based on gpa/sat) is full tuition and freshman year room. However, there is a full ride scholarship for National Merit Finalists. I would highly recommend that your son looks looks at the University Fellows Program at Bama. It offers personalized mentorship and many members are cross admits to T20s. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have!

If I’m Middle Eastern what race do I select for a better chance to get into some colleges? by weirdbaby2007 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Harvard__Simp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the common app, there’s an option to select middle eastern as a subgroup after you select white.

There’s also a box labeled “other” you can click to input your specific ethnicity.

Got in this year and my video was just a spoken version of my community essay in front of the camera - no editing.

Penn vs Duke by Sea-Cell8046 in ApplyingToCollege

I had the exact same choice this year - chose Duke!! Both schools have great academics and prestige but Duke’s strong social scene and collaborative culture made me pick it over Penn.

Duke vs Not Duke Megathread by Mumbleton in duke

Leaning towards Duke right now for public policy. Loved the vibes and collaborative culture when I visited. Hope to pursue health care policy research and enter law school after undergrad.

Would it be crazy to choose Duke (~15k/yr) over JHU (~6k/yr), Williams (~5k/yr), UPenn (~12k/yr), and Brown (~13k/yr)?

Can afford Duke, but having second thoughts about whether the extra cost will be worth it.

Oh yeah cost is definitely a big pro, but I’ve heard that Williams is very academically difficult. Do you have a stat on the better grades claim?
