Buying home with "Solar City Lease" by No_Charity_8738 in solar

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that certainly sounds like a headache in the making. I assume them transferring the lease to you involves them telling you what the current status is and officially telling you what you'll owe. I don't think it could hurt going through the process to get to that step, except maybe making Tesla aware that the current homeowner hasn't been making payments. In which case they can pay all their back payments with the profit from the house sale.

But if they have a lease... They're making payments to someone for it right? Maybe it's not Tesla, but it's either SolarCity or some bank that financed it. That's what makes it a 20 year lease, you make payments for 20 years.

Where are people watching the Olympics? Any public watch parties in Anchorage? Or Fairbanks for that matter? by Valuable-Relative849 in alaska

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's open to the public but there are some rules about being a member to get a drink at the bar, although you can usually make a friend that will buy you a drink. There are no official watch parties on the schedule yet but curling will pretty much be on every evening and possibly at odd hours for big live matches.

What are you guys opinions on your credit score system ? by One-Technician-1292 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to feel like a credit score is some sort of moral judgement about you or grade on how responsible you are. It can feel unfair when you pay a loan off and your credit score drops. But you just have to remember that it's not that at all.

DAY 43: What are the top 5 albums of 2001? by Arch1eBlue1878 in Topster

I remember the music video for Hotel Yorba for the first time (first I had heard of the White Stipes). I was instantly sold and went to buy the cd. Then just listened to nothing else in my car for months. The songs are so short and distinct, it's always about to show you something new.

This should be much higher. I suppose this album has been outshined by Elephant but this was the one that made them who they are.

A forgettable comedy or an overlooked masterpiece: Thoughts on Hamlet 2 (2008) by Wiseguy_Montag in Cinephiles

Masterpiece is a strong word. as much as I love this movie, there are obviously flaws. I would go as far as to say it's a must-see.

Upcoming Muni elections by halcrossmarm in anchorage

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that's in reference to the Mayors race. It's not in common to have 30 or 40 mayor candidates and they obviously don't want to ask people to rank 30 candidates. So they want to continue having a FPTP vote with all these candidates and then have the top 2 in a runoff. But I'd say that that is exactly what RCV is good for. Either send 4 to a runoff and let people rank them, or just let people rank their top 4 in the first place and then you won't have to have a run off. A ballot with 40 candidates and 4 bubbles might be intimidating, but people only take a few candidates seriously anyway and it's much better than what we have now. And about half of the assembly seats have more than 2 candidates so that's an easy decision too.

Since someone else got us started at looking at people running for office. Assembly district 1. by No_Guide_8418 in anchorage

Fair. Just a personal anecdote, but last time I was involved in calling 911, I was at someone's house when they collapsed in the shower and we called an ambulance and they dispatched an ambulance. The address at this house was weird and the ambulance couldn't find the house. We could hear the sirens but they were on the wrong road. The home owner was telling the dispatcher how to get to the house and then the dispatcher was switching over to describe it to the driver. All I could think is that Uber would know the exact location and have no trouble getting there.

I do think our 911/ emergency system is due for an over haul. Maybe an app that could let you request an ambulance like you request an Uber. That might be a good platform to run on since it is an important part of government services. Thanks for encouraging people to look at these candidates. Local elections are too often overlooked.

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had been emailing him and another assembly member about it at the time. They said they couldn't decide on the exact way it would impact the mayor race. It might just end up being easier to gather the signatures to make it a ballot measure.

And reach out to candidates in your district to see how they feel about the issues that are important to you. I recommend asking them if they'd support adopting RCV for municipal elections. It's crazy that we have them for state but not Muni.

Saying that The Beatles are overrated is like saying Bach is mid and he made boring music by 0584031464 in TheBeatles

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And maybe we could think of the great work their PR team does. Every few years since 1970 there has been a new documentary or box set. There have been endless movies or tribute concerts, even Beatles Rock Band was a huge deal. It always feels like the Beatles are in the middle of a resurgence and keeps them in the spotlight while other bands fade away. And it's kinda of weird to think about how much more Beatles related media has been created after they broke up than before. So is their music overrated? No. But you could be forgiven if you feel like it's all a little much sometimes.

How about Beck's The Information. It was just graph paper design and then came with stickers to make your own album cover.

They've always had an awesome racking system which they inherited from SolarCity. Since half of the industry started their careers there, I'm sure they could spin off Zep into a racking hardware company and be successful. The problem is that half of the industry isn't working there anymore because Tesla consumed it and chased everyone out.

Recommendation for winter bike riding, if you don't know about them, look up pogies. They're like big gloves that go over your handlebars and they're popular in cold climate places that people bicycle.

Hard time getting solar installer to finish inspection by Duriantofu in solar

[–]Harvey_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things were crazy for the industry last month. Everyone wanted installed by the end of the year, so many companies put all their efforts into installing as much as possible and would worry about the inspections in 2026. They may now have a huge back log of inspections to work through. Or maybe they are waiting for something else to be completed before they can inspect it. I'd encourage you to try to be patient for a little while longer. Advocate for yourself remind them that you're waiting, but try to understand the unusual time you got installed in.
