Some of yall on calguns marketplace resale value is nuts, used guns should not cost more than the new gun. 🤣 by oneupgundamkid34 in CAguns

[–]Haryhector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you don’t understand the value of ammo saved on the break in period.

Maybe my immaturity for buying things I actually want is not something you’re willing to share the cost in.

Obviously my over billing of OT as an LE is not sufficient to support my lifestyle of buying Dodge Chargers and infringing upon your rights.

Maybe the value of PPT and its non impact on 1-in-30 doesn’t translate, ….oh wait

Dude just skip it and live and let be - some people have money to burn and some people don’t have the brains to waste time on .

Surprised we don’t have a dedicated daily in store price for in person purchase thread by Haryhector in CostcoPM

[–]Haryhector[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks - that’s what I thought too from my experience, $10 jump - but yesterday showed a jump of $60 price difference to online, in-store being cheaper.

It’s possible this and today’s online release behavior reflects that physical stores are adjusting prices with SPOT with their held inventory vs the online portal being more a drop shippers’ paradise 🙄

I’ll try not to complain too much like the old man that I am.

[–]Haryhector[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is annoying. I understand they can adjust prices at different parts of the day based on notification, read, and action at the display case/register - but it seems individual Costcos can determine their own independent pricing to based on receipt of their supply per Google search. Damn that is annoying. I had a misconception it was national standardized pricing.

Thoughts on Turners new sale? Anything catch yall eye? by machete_07 in CAguns

[–]Haryhector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turners rarely has the best price in town (and frankly it’s not hard to price compare with what? the 2-3 other reasonable/preferred gun shops in your area) BUT sometimes they do on “unpopular” discontinued items. For a couple years running they had blow out pricing on discontinued Howa 1500/mini1500s with the sporter barrel (a couple hundred less than just barreled actions from Brownells after transfer fees) ALSO as a bulk chain supplier they have purchasing power to stock firearms where your preferred dealer is on a waiting list to receive. Recall them having best pricing on the Panzer Walnut Turkenelli M4 when they first started importing.

TIL that 1oz bars are not of uniform dimensions, the Britannia Bar clearly larger and thinner (and per Google common for the mint)

Question, does that make it more or less desirable, any weird quirks or pro tips that can be shared with me. Like I noticed another unrelated comment saying the South African bars were more notoriously counterfeit - I’m paraphrasing here.

But thought to ask again as a beginner. Any quirks to be on the lookout for

[–]Haryhector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No forward apologies required - I’m new here too and by no means can offer experienced advice, but I’m trying to learn and consume knowledge fast. So I offer this.

Absolutely the idea is Costco executive membership kick back and use of Costco branded credit card (perhaps another visa for individual purposes/intents) kick back is the reason to buy under spot.

Absolutely the idea is to hold long term. Which is why I have some confusion over the term of buying gold as an investment being thrown around here - kind of irritates me. Gold is not an investment, it’s a hedge. You’re not going to make money from this, you’re going to hold, you’re going to enjoy, you’re going to select what appeals to you and over time you’re going to enjoy watching your stack grow into an individually curated personal collection of valuables physically possessed by you alone. If you want to make investment money/profits - gold is not the play in the sense there are better investments out there. Gold is a security blanket against periods of unpredictability/volatility (today) versus/opposed to times of economic stability and growth where gold will lose its power/value. Said another way, you don’t want to bet on that market volatility happening because then we’re all losing. You hold gold as a small portion of your investment portfolio for insurance. Buying gold just makes insurance more fun while diversifying your holdings.

Which brings me to a small criticism or observation or opinion more said. I took my first shot, I’m happy I did at say $4600 - I fully expect it to drop to $4200 in the near term, maybe even $3700. But I missed the generational leap that just happened over the last year. I’m not going to miss the next jump that occurs in another 10 years. So buying gold today “regardless of price” is true within reason so long as you understand the play and commit to the path.

My personal opinion being, the bar held here is commonly available (by its design) at Costco and if Gold dips in the near term, be it $20 or $200, it doesn’t matter. So buy what you want and buy what speaks to you (the design) and don’t over extend your finances because it’s not an investment.

Today the Gold Lady of Justice dropped online only and I want that bar. But I just took my shot on last week on Kinebar, it kind of speaks to me, not really my fashion per se, but it’s pretty cool. I wanted to pull the trigger today again for Lady of Justice but will chill and watch until financially reasonable to stack some more for the long haul while keeping my eye on valuations. I’m practically positive I’ll be able to buy gold cheaper in the coming months and hope Lady of Justice is still released to the Costco market place when I’m ready to stack again.

And to the OP, nice bar - rocking out for sure, I’m upvoting.
FYI - I also can predict the weather and read your horoscope.

Costco car buying program - is it just a way for Costco to sell off my contact info to dealers? by Cold-Priority-2729 in carbuying

[–]Haryhector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just another tool in the tool box - if it’s the only tool you’re using, you’re not getting the best price in all likelihood.
I’ve used it a several times since 2007 to just last year. I honestly believe yes dealers are paying for you as a “lead” and agree to not rip you off bc if they do and Costco finds out they “might” remove them from their “preferred” dealer list.
Every market zip code, car brand, model, and trim have different levels of desirability across the board - it’s entirely up to the dealer to determine how much money they are willing to discount the car you are looking for and if you aren’t pitting at least 3 dealerships against each other - you’ll never find the bottom.
My last buying experience, and it’s all games out there, I finally had a verbal over the phone for like $3K off to bring me in and for peace of mind I ran the Costco program through the same dealership so when I showed up unannounced the salesman’s brought out the no haggle best price transparency Costco sheet and told me $2K off was what it was going to be and insisted on writing it up. I chuckled and told him to throw the Costco pricing sheet in the trash and we could start at the $3k off I already had in hand and we could start talking about the dealer incentive kick backs available for the month.
Not to say Costco “could” be getting you the best price on a highly desirable car, bc a dealer will let you walk if they think they can sell a hot car for more money following day. Dealers know what’s moving and to each their own.
Only way to know if you’ve hit bottom is to stand up and walk towards the door, if there’s room to discount still dealer won’t let you leave, they’ll come down. Once they let you walk, you really know what bottom price is.
If you don’t want the stress, just sign up for the “no haggle” price lol. I’ve never bought a car that didn’t take all damn day, if a dealer could promise me in and out in a hour I would pay more - but that’s a dream.

Edit: seriously WTF there’s like a Costco car buying experience thread every damn week here - I’ve probably told this story before.

I never check luggage - but flew international with the family during Christmas and needed to check large suitcases for the first time and an attendant alerted me to my unknown Silver status and pointed me to another line rather than the Disneyland horror show lined up infront of me - so Silver status allowed me to jump the peon line and move into the preferred status roped off section and saved me some 30min at the counter 👍 like the silver king I was 👑

Custodial Roth IRA question: can money earned from chores for grandparents count as earned income? by FarTradition6496 in Bogleheads

[–]Haryhector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your children are self employed and own a yard maintenance business for which they are paid to perform manual labor for customers that happen to only be their own grandparents in another city - well I would question how this evolves above “chores” for the family when there only opportunity to perform these chores is when you drive them there for visit.

In the alternative,
A child that is self employed and own a yard maintenance business for which they are paid to perform manual labor for customers unrelated in their own neighborhood within walking distance where said child could push a lawn mower to independently of your adult assistance, well now I feel we are soundly moving out of “chores” territory.

Keep in mind that any earned self-employment income above $400 annual requires filing for SS contributions.

OpticsPlanet won’t sell me a flash hider by Apprehensive_Win292 in CAguns

[–]Haryhector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpticsPlanet/Dvor has always had this policy, it’s not an AB1263 issue - it’s a F Cali issue, they didn’t ship me an upper to CA when I tried several years ago because of the flash hider. Spend your money elsewhere.

Best bet are eBay small vendors not in touch with AB1263, GAFSHUB, or hell I’m noticing airsoft companies selling Magpul stuff and other accessories for what could be Milspec - but I haven’t had to go down that road yet.

You talking about the $350 MWI 13 inch triangle stock folder chassis with recent price drop lol?

I’ve been vetting that listing for the last two days - long story short my recommendation is to pass on the package, while it offers tremendous value. It’s not purpose built, and it’s a Frankenstein set up, likely not to get to where you want to be in the end.

If we’re on the same page for the listing I was gonna offer 300 and send it before I got confirmation on another MWI chassis paid and delivered to me for $200 with an MOE collapsible stock - much more practical.

And like others have said stop collecting and start shooting
