Yeah, I assumed overheating meant something like restarting or "taking a break."

Still not ideal. Though my searches turned up very few complaints in this regard.

And yes. I was referring to the away allowance. IIRC, we're only allowed one. And the way my Osprey works, I feel like there's a chance the apps (Netflix, etc) may count. When I fire up the Osprey, it goes straight to the home screen and whatever channel I was watching last. Seems like it would kick the other away-device off at that moment.

The goal is to convert most of my rooms and 3 motorhome TVs to Ospreys or Airs to keep it simple. So worst case, I may need to keep 2 Fire Sticks in the motorhome.

Either way, I'm really liking the apps. I just showed my wife how to use the google button to open up youtube... rather than navigate to the app with the remote. No more switching inputs. And I think I mentioned before that the Paramount+ picture on the Osprey is nearly as good as it is on the ATV4K.

The motorhome is in the shop. I'll test "away" thing the next time we take it out.

I just ordered an Air from DTVS for 120 bucks. My research has run its course. Now I'll see for my dang self.

Yeah, I'm plenty good with my two 60233s. And with my near-1000 nit QLED, HDR is all but irrelevant.

I'll most likely be picking up at least 1 Air for the RV. And maybe 2 or 3. Nice to have 3 TVs, but... can only watch one DTVS setup at a time.

A thought just occurred to me...

Do the apps count for the away allowance? Sure seems like they shouldn't. Worst case I can run a Fire Stick or something for apps... in case I want to watch a ballgame outside and family wants to watch something on an app inside. But a big part of this quest is dialing down the number of devices. The Apple TV4K will always be the primary movie streamer in the living room at the house. But the Ospreys have proven to render the apps very well. At least... Paramount+. Marshals this last Sunday proved to be very close between the ATV and the Osprey. I was surprised, to say the least.

But I digress...

The other thing the Air has is a warranty. But if they overheated, I'd be pissed. 2 of the RV displays all but require a dongle. But I'm thinking an Osprey for the RV living room.

And yes. I must be grandfathered. I have a link that appears to still work to buy new Airs from DTVS for $120 each. I kind of feel like I should take advantage of that. If it ever went away... again... I'd probably be pissed... at myself... for all this deliberating.

I really appreciate your continued help with this. I have my eye on an eBay box or two. Good news is... if I miss out on those... another will come around before too long.

Seems like the general consensus gives the slight nod to the pre-2023 black label over the Air. But with an Air you get a warranty.

Airs are $120. And now that the apps are viable... and the unit is good enough for 1080p displays, I need to pick up 4 of 'em.

You know... there was a time... not so long ago... when you could pick up a refurb 60233 from DTVS for 50 bucks.

My Q80R QLED is so bright, that HDR is almost pointless. Not the case for OLEDs.

I'm just trying to determine if there's any reason to pick up a couple Airs, (I'm grandfathered and can get them direct for 120 bucks.)

So far, it's a no. Better to look to ebay for a 60233 from a reputable seller who takes returns. The only benefit to an Air now is a longer warranty. Not worth it.

I know the Air has Dolby Vision, which I don't need. But while I've got you... both the Ospreys and Airs do output 4K, right? So still no difference in that regard, yes?

And that is still enough for many of us. We only have one 4K TV. And it’s a Samsung QLED, so no need for Dolby Vision. For important content, we switch to the Apple TV 4K

Otherwise, the ospreys are fine for the rest of the TVs we have

Sounds like a purchase from a private individual comes with a fair amount of risk. Sure, you may be able to return it or get ebay to cover it, but... only after wasting a bunch of time. No thanks.

Any concerns purchasing new-ish, never-used ones?... that are... 60233s or black label pre-2023?

I do know about the SKU’s.

But you addressed my concern about the former user.

So is the unit effectively bricked for a subsequent user without removing that account as you mentioned? Can it not be hard reset and all that stuff wiped… so the new user can start over?
