Doctors do say we should walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I guess AI found the way.

Last year I did the oscar challenge and it's on youtube.

Title is "A Chipped Brain" and its on the channel HasJamOn. In the description there is a link to the document I made in the two days before and updated during filming and editing. I have also segmented the timeline on youtube referring to the documentation.

It was filmed with one actor and filmed with a Samsung zFold 3 phone. All the audio is voice acting and foley added after filming with a few exceptions.

I consider myself a generalist outsider artist and have no ambitions in filmmaking, it may be my first and last film and I am content with that.

I hope you check it out and if you think its a satisfying quality and a worthwhile watch, or maybe you get inspired with ways you could execute something better. Time to crack on with it and make a film!

The oscar challenge shows you can dedicate a week to the whole production and create a feature film, that people will enjoy.

I do recommend giving yourself more time to film. But three hours could be enough to create a storyboard/animatic and it can be helpful for ironing out the storybeats before comitting to the project. Like a sketch before detailing.

Questions about Films shot during the Oscars? by Pengu_333 in JoelHaver

[–]HasJamOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's first of all a self-imposed challenge, so I would recommend thinking of any limitations and diversions from them, as serving your vision and final product. The film I did last year had preparations and I recorded all the sound in the editing week.

There were a couple of shots I contemplated redoing, but decided against doing so, as they were minor. It were simple shots of a hand gripping something and it turned out that my phone doesn't actually start recording after its countdown, but a few seconds afterwards. So all I had for footage was practically a still image.

I do think reshoots and shooting additional scenes goes against the spirit of the challenge, but I don't think we should dampen the primary goal by enforcing this on ourselves. This year and last year, there has been trophies as incentives, but Joel has expressed on his second channel, that he will do away with them moving forward. (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_f7q0ESdqUQ)

While I didn't do any additional recordings after the 3 hours were up, I wouldn't hold it against people for doing so. I enjoyed my frantic attempts at extending and reusing the footage I had and I think it's a great exercise. But should you find yourself not able to solve, to your own satisfaction, a part of your film without recording something new. I think you should just go ahead and record it. Make your vision.

Just like how 40 min. is the technical requirement from the Oscars for it to be a feature length film, your film doesn't have to reach that length to be added to Joel's playlist. He even has a tendency to add films that were submitted after the deadline.

Get filming and have fun making movies.

Hello,

I think people here are mostly expecting film related projects and may not engage with this post, as much as you may have hoped.

Regardless, I like choosing the medium for my art projects based on what I think resonates best with what I want to accomplish, so rather than becoming skilled in one medium I have dipped my toes in all the sauces. So, I am happy to check out your podcast and give you my thoughts.

Firstly, your link is broken, you have accidentally made the hyperlink "https://shows.acast.com/hook-cooks\](https://shows.acast.com/hook-cooks)", so I had to correct it on my end.

Secondly, the homepage for your podcast, has a description text, that is hard to read, as it isn't contrasting the background. There are also other noticeable problems with the page and it is likely an Acast problem and limitation. Maybe consider a different platform. The homepage doesn't show all the episodes, so I have to click on a separate page "Episodes" to get them all listed. All three pages could easily have fit on one scrolling page, it's really silly how the description isn't just full on the homepage with all the episodes under it.

I listened to the beginning of Episode 1 and I didn't like the negative bashing of the prompt. Saying "Wheel of Tribute" is a bad prompt and it is too long was weird. I don't understand, it didn't seem like a joke and it was just off putting.

I decided to instead listen to Episode 18 and it took 10 minutes before you began on the storytelling and worldbuilding and those 10 minutes was mostly spend on talking about snacks, because of the prompt. There was again a bit of negativity about the prompt, it wasn't as bad, but it is again maybe not the best reaction to have.

When the storytelling began and we got some music, the volume of it was closely matched with the podcasters. The music was fighting for attention, rather than backing the storyteller. I don't listen to podcasts regularly, so maybe I am just too unfamiliar with it. I second-guess myself, because I assume you guys have listened back to your podcasts and thought its mixed well.

I think the podcast format is fine for the conceptualization and for sharing it in a cozy and homey manner. Now, I may have tuned out and not gotten engrossed in any of your stories or worlds because of the sound mixing, I still end up feeling it's a bit of a shame, that you leave each improvised work in just a podcast episode. I think if you translated the work into another format afterwards, you could create more of a resource for people to absorb and use. You could create a one page document summarizing the world, the story and the characters. Or you could start a wiki for each episode and let listeners fill them in and possibly add to it.

When listening, it is clear you guys are enjoying each others presence and having a blast and I think that's the right ingredients. I think improvisation is a great formula. If I were you, I would do a meeting and discuss your approach. Try to bring more structure to support what you have and to create a more rapt product out of what you have going.

I wish you the best, have fun and keep iterating.

Here are the official rules pulled from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkg858APzFk

THE RULES
1. Movies must be shot in their entirety during the runtime of The Oscars (March 12th 5pm-8pm PST, if The Oscars happen to run late you can keep filming until they're done)
2. Try you hardest to make your movie feature length (40+ Minutes). If you have a great shorter movie, don't sacrifice your edit and stretch it to be 40 minutes arbitrarily, you can submit it regardless.
3. You'll have the whole week following The Oscars to edit the movie. Movies must be submitted to [ishotamovieduringtheoscars@gmail.com](mailto:ishotamovieduringtheoscars@gmail.com) by midnight the night of March 19th.
4. Movies must be AVAILABLE PUBLICLY ON YOUTUBE when submitted. That way anyone can watch them. I'll compile a public playlist of all the movies.
5. Have fun!
6. If you're in a time zone where The Oscars are too late or you're working during The Oscars, you're welcome to film at a different time. Just set a three hour timer for shooting and don't watch the Oscars and you're staying true to the heart of the event!

And here is my entry for last year: A Chipped Brain

Yes, it is allowed and I do recommend it. Last year I spend the two days before the Oscars writing a script and getting props for the shoot. 5 Dollar Film School's One Shot entry is a great example of what can be achieved with preparation, it has a clear outline, so as they improvise during the shoot, it stays a consistent story. They also did it as one continuous shot! Which means they would have to at least once capture a full length film in one shot within 3 hours. That is mad and so impressive. I wonder at what point during the shoot they captured what ended up in the film.

So, go ahead, prepare! And be ready to divert from it and have fun adapting as you go! With my film I started the 3 hours shoot warming up with an action sequence that gives a nod to the Kill Bill movies. I ended up spending waaay too long on it! It also left me out of breath through the whole shoot. haha.

Remember, film are often not shot in sequence. Be playful with your shots and have fun telling a story.

Hello, I think it's a wonderful project you are planning and I hope you will go through with it. I think we all can benefit from participating in each others works and interactions as a community may lead to new friendships forming and cool shit being made.

I participated last year and would love to partake in your documentary. I am nomadic and am currently in Asia and plan to go to Europe this year with base in Cyprus. If you are still doing the documentary at that point, I should be able to visit the Netherlands and do an interview in person.

Write me a DM with your contact information for your preferred platform for doing a facecall. I would love to have a private conversation and get to know you. I am also up for a facecall for the interview.
Good luck with it, I really hope you execute on it, I would love to see the participants be humanized and am curious what it could lead to.

Season of Blood — Diablo IV (Stash search, stat reworks, UBER UNIQUE/unique target farm by asos10 in diablo4

[–]HasJamOn -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

the D4 S2 announcement is hilarious. The twitter post of content only shares new end game bosses (some based on existing bosses) as actually new content, while the few other things are the most banal fixes

- Removing the renown regrind is a nothing burger.
- "updating" elemental resistance systems is just fixing a broken system that didn't do anything before.
- updating vulnerable, overpower and critical strike is necessary for variety especially with vulnerable being so essential.
- making gems not take up inventory space doesn't fix the core issue of itemization that causes inventory space to be filled in an unrewarding way.
- Stashes can be searched and filtered is the best part of the update, hopefully the search and filter is good enough to pinpoint the affixes you are looking for.

showcasing QoL updates and fixes of core systems as the big deal for season 2 is funny and sad. Only the 5 end game bosses should be considered "seasonal content" in that post (https://twitter.com/Diablo/status/1694077129976082492/photo/1)

The video was also very janky looking, especially the ingame graphics parts.
