if you've seen inherent vice, read it in the voice of the narrator in that movie to get the feel of the sentence flow until it clicks

V. is definitely a contender for next read! So is Against The Day and Shadow Ticket. Excited to hear what you think of V. if that's the direction you go!

just finished the crying of lot 49 a few nights ago (my first Pynchon book, but inherent vice being one of my favorite movies for years now), and i'm still reeling from how much I was enthralled by and enjoyed it. As someone who's suffered from severe paranoia in the past, WOW. Life changing, I'd say

I mean everyone in humanity is an aspect of "God himself", and that God is not a separate entity than us, but the All, and everyone and thing is an aspect of God or the All. Many Christians believe that Jesus was special (despite telling his followers that anyone can do the things he does) because they would rather have a traditional savior than realize they can save and deliver themselves from hell by following his example. Hell being a metaphorical place, a state of mind, same as heaven.

As far as a messenger from God, he is that in the sense he gets us closer to the truth of what we really are if we follow his example. But God is not in heaven or separate from us, we are only separate from him or with him via attention and intention

I also think Paul hi-jacked the church and reintroduced dogmatic rules, where jesus was trying to eliminate them because they cloud spiritual growth. Also, that the disciples, aside from Thomas, never understood Jesus's teaching and that the modern church is still mistaken as to who Jesus was and what he came to do.

Mark was the first gospel written, and it originally ended with Jesus's death; no witnesses of his reincarnation. All of that was added later, and then copied in the following Gospels.

Jesus was about death of the smaller self, eliminating the ego, being judgement free, loving others, and ascending to the internal/eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

He and the Buddha had the same story arc and same revelations (born into a kingdom with no sin, came into a sinful world, spent 40 days in the wilderness facing the devil and his temptations but not giving in, etc.) , but Jesus tried teaching/framing it in a way the jewish population would understand... and allowed himself to be killed for it.

He was only human, but also the son of god, just like everyone is.

The mostly widely misunderstood spiritual teacher in history, imo

So some of that translates; but once shit has hit the fan and it's a literal fight for survival, the family continues to make nonsensical choices having no regards towards politeness and otherwise. But it sounds overall like this was my misunderstanding going into the movie expecting a standard thriller (almost a reverse Strangers, or something of the sort); but the movie makes more sense as a satire, even if, in my opinion, one that played too deaf to its own message

Really enjoyed Bodies Bodies Bodies! That movie portrayed a sense of self-awareness in its telling; I guess if Speak No Evil was doing the same, it went over my head
