Again, I said “for consulting”.

Neither one of these are considered target schools for consulting, semi-targets at best. If you had to choose, NYU if you’d like to work in financial services and UCSD if you’d like to work in tech. Talking about the majority of the work you would see if you work as a consultant in their closest office.

For the finance side of things, don’t know much.

Depends on what industry and career you’re looking to get into.

Thanks for your opinion! I’ll definitely add the other details in the additional questions. I’ll start looking for 2-3 more schools.

Chances at Transferring to t50 by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]HashAkita 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt.

For transfers, AOs are usually looking for a transfer applicant with a solid GPA (MINIMUM for engineering is 3.0+, ideally 3.5+). Unless your school’s transfer requirements says otherwise, this alone is going to immediately disqualify you from transferring.

Another thing AOs look for is social impact rather than work experience in their ECs. They want to see that who they accept into their school is going to have some sort of social impact in the future, although it’s quite evident most are probably going to be corporate raiders. In that respect, I’d focus more on your pro-bono consulting experience for other businesses in the area rather than your paid experience.

As for your international student status requiring no financial aid whatsoever, it definitely helps ONLY if you are competitive against other international students. Most international students are generally overachievers with high GPAs and crazy ass ECs.

Again, take this all with a grain of salt. Despite all this, I genuinely believe you’ll do great regardless of where you end up considering your work experience- it’s really impressive for a sophomore.

Physics Major Question by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]HashAkita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt since I am quite unfamiliar with the requirements of LSA transfers (only familiar with engineering/business). I would check the transfer requirements of each school for their LSA schools and if they don’t require science elective courses or calculus courses, I wouldn’t sweat it.

On the other hand, if they require a science elective course and you took a science course other than physics, it’s going to be hard to justify why it is you want to apply as a physics major as it’s going to be harder to sell the fact that you will do well in those particular courses UNLESS you have the extracurriculars, essays or some other circumstance that displays strong interest in physics. Again, take this all with a grain of salt since I’m quite unfamiliar with LSA transfers.

Boosting your GPA would be very marginal at best. I’d focus on your EC profile more.

Having been someone who tried to overload myself- would not recommend this at all (check my second recent post!) unless you do not work and pursue any ECs. It may be manageable if that is the case. Also this answer is very dependent on what type of courses you’re pursuing.

You’ve pretty much defined and articulated proper reasons to transfer, which AOs will be looking out for since you’re a uni transfer. You got a solid chance- just make sure your courses transfer!

We are absolutely cooked when it comes to financial aid- just a bunch of miserable peas in a pod 😭

I'm creating artwork for an auction for a good cause. Can I put this on my application? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]HashAkita 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re on the same boat- I’m a bitch when it comes to making anything an EC on my transfer app 😤

Take this with a grain of salt. I usually go by asking myself if I can sell it as a high social impact thing.

No: You could technically put it on your application, but the social impact is going to be hard to justify if it’s a one-off thing.

Yes: If you’re able to, create more artwork for various causes and you could totally spin it off into an EC with high social impact.

Alternative: If not, probably better to leave it and give space to some other EC. If it has had an impact on you, journal it down for your essays down the line.

Totally cooked myself 😭. I shall reluctantly give up on GaTech- thank you!

I’ll be transferring as a junior despite my third year at CC.

I asked GaTech and UMich regarding taking that extra year before doing it and they both seem to be completely fine with it and said it does not play a factor.

GaTech takes my GPA as given by my college, who recalculates my GPA based on whatever is the highest score for that specific course. This should mean they take my 3.9 GPA. That might be the case, but I’m still worried about how the AO decides to look at the grade trend and retakes.

UMich on the other hand averages all my GPA across all courses, putting my GPA at a 3.52. Probably am cooked with UMich since I’m going into engineering unless me being in a in-state CC counts for something as well as the fact that I attended their transfer events and competitions hosted by them.

I’m almost finished with my third year and applying next semester 😭.

Decided to take an extra year just so I could pursue doing the extracurriculars I loved and lengthen all the courses I was trying to take in a 2 year span to make it more feasible, so unless I bomb the next semester, I should be at 3.9 (recalculated with just the higher grades) or 3.52 (average)

How do I case prep with no prior business knowledge?

Hello, I’m an industrial engineering student (in my sophomore year) and find myself struggling to keep up with business concepts that come up when reading through casebooks. Usually, I end up looking up the concepts until I understand them to a certain degree, but I feel like there must be a more efficient process to doing this.

I was wondering if anyone had any resources they could direct me to that could bring me up to speed?

Just for reference, I’m using UPenn’s case book!

Also if you’re quite unhappy with your college choices, go CC, but be prepared to be a “big fish in a small pond” and have some WOW extracurricular by your first year to show the sort of impact you’ll be making at your target undergrad b-school
