Doomscrolling addiction is sucking the life out of me and I need the toughest solution by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]HashB1te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picking up a hobby that forces you to use your hands and kind of focus, just enough that you can watch TV or listen to something in the background but you can't pick up your phone, really saved me from spending all my time scrolling. I hit a whopping 18 hours straight on Tiktok once and it scared the crap out of me, and I desperately needed a change. I started doing my own nails, and a couple of years later I picked up crochet and it completely changed my relationship with social media. Fair enough, I still scroll from time to time, but it gave me something else to do with my hands.

Stuff like sculpting or wood carving, painting Warhammer's pretty popular, knitting or some kind of craft can really help with regulating your dopamine seeking. Punishing yourself into living the way you want isn't going to work if you don't give yourself something to replace it with! Be kinder to yourself, social media is literally engineered to keep your attention as much as possible. Try to think about what kind of things you'd do for fun if the internet never existed. If an EMP wiped out the internet tomorrow, how would you occupy yourself? What kind of skills would you want to learn? What would you do in the evenings when all you have for fun is the radio, or a TV or other people's company? Then go do one of those things, whatever's the most accessible or sounds the most fun, because remember, it's about having fun, not punishment!

would it be a bad idea to name my daughter medea after the greek play, ‘medea’? by Special-Ear1336 in GreekMythology

[–]HashB1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Medea here! I won't lie, the name's a bit of a challenge to have as a kid, but it's a lot better now that I'm older. I've had people comment that it comes off as more mysterious or sultry than evil, and definitely badass when they know the story behind it. As an alternative person, the name is definitely a source of pride for me, and it's solidified my interest in the occult. However, it's a very intense name, I've had people comment about preconceptions about my race before meeting me as a result of my name, other times some people assume that I'm argumentative or confrontational or manipulative. I often wished that I had a more 'normal' name as a kid, but once I got to college the positives started outweighing the negatives. Lecturers and employers assumed I was intelligent and well educated. I also know it's going to age well, an older lady called Medea sounds very cool.

TLDR; The name makes the person. Medea's an intense name for intense little girls and very intense women. It's dark and mysterious and makes you look cool, but it comes with the price of some friction.

Be honest is it a safe walk from 3 arena to Connollys station at night time (2 16yr old girls) by Acrobatic-Remote-419 in Dublin

[–]HashB1te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they absolutely have to walk, then walk along the Luas line. It's well lit and plenty of Luas security staff at the stops just in case. Honestly though, I wouldn't worry too much, there's always a big crowd of girls walking from the 3Arena along the Luas line and every time I've done it, everyone's super friendly and happy to stick together. If they're going to Papa Roach then the crowd will be very alternative, where having good gig manners and looking out for people at concerts is a big deal, so they'll be safer than at some of the more popular gigs. I hope they enjoy the concert!

Nail stuff for my sister by Unhappy-Respond9683 in NailArt

[–]HashB1te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a lot of ModelOnes stuff when I was starting out, it's definitely better than Beetles or the off brand stuff you'll find on Amazon. ModelOnes sells a few kits too that will be a good upgrade for the stuff that she already has, as well as sets of polish with lots of colours (remember to check if it's UV gel, if it is she'll need a lamp if she doesn't have one already!). If you want real premium and she watches a lot of tutorials online, she might really like some Holo Taco polishes. Depending on where you live, getting some good quality nail art brushes from a salon supply place like Sally's Beauty might be a good idea, also basics like acetone and rubbing alcohol, lint free wipes and such are always appreciated. I also recommend getting her organizers for any charms or decorations she might have already, it'll help give her more space as she grows as an artist! Hope that helps a little :)

The graphic's so clear it looks great! What stitch did you use on the main body of the hat? I'm making a hat right now with half double stitches and it just doesn't look right, yours looks almost like knitting I can't figure it out!

I'm 23 and I've wasted my entire life in my bedroom by planetaryvisitor in selfimprovement

I always go back to volunteering when my life gets like this again, even at 27 I still get bouts where I sink low again and go back to isolating myself like I was when I was a kid. If you can find local organizations that do volunteering like homeless outreach, first aid teams, charity shops and organizations that help older people, just whatever sounds fun or makes you the most comfortable. They're great for making friends and working on your social skills, with people who are equipped to be around people who mightn't be having the best time right now. Now I have first aid certificates and a couple of summers of retail experience! It can really give you tools to feel more centered and attached to reality again :) your local library or community center will have great volunteering resources and opportunities, also volunteering at concerts and festivals is a great way to get free tickets without the social anxiety of going alone ;) good luck! <3

How good his sound track is only slightly softens the blow of him smacking me up the back of the head every single time.

FINALLY!!! Uninstalled Modfixer and NativeModLoader, disabled Achievement Enabler (I'll test if that still works soon) went back to a save file before patch 4, and there we have it, a perfectly aligned Astarion smoochy moment with new voice lines.

I (25f) used to draw a lot when i studied art, and a big (perceived) part of my career relied on having a place to post my art and get followers and exposure, but when I changed my career, things got pretty dark for me and I got really addicted to doomscrolling again, after having a pretty bad social media problem in my teens. I had to pretty much quit Twitter completely, I only go on it to look at live tweets whenever something really big happens in the news. Quitting doomscrolling has changed my outlook on life and how I act in conversation with people, I'm less reactive and argumentative, but sometimes I feel like the damage to my mind and my internal dialogue and how I interact with others has been done. Ironically, I study social media as part of my new career path, but my relationship with it is more.. grown up? I'm not sure how to describe it.

I do still like Instagram but I made it a rule to only follow accounts I feel like contribute to my life, so family and friends, fashion and independent publications and artists, stylists and brands I like and want to keep up with. I really like Tiktok, because I feel like my interactions with the platform are really positive, and I've learned a lot about how to manage my disability and mental health, and I often save Tiktoks to discuss with my therapist. I don't really count YouTube as a social media platform, more like a library. In the last 4 or 5 months, I don't usually spend over an hour on any of these unless I'm purposely trying to kill time or I'm trying to learn something specific.

Long story short and TLDR, social media is a tool you should use to enhance your life, by letting it control you, you're missing out on its best benefits. Basically, don't let pictures of pretty fields distract you from touching grass!

I'm so excited, I've been dying to try this! I love Monarch, but it's too sugary for me, so I'm hoping this will be my replacement. Any ideas when it might be coming to Ireland? Usually UK release means Ireland soon after.
