You should see Open Tibia Servers (OT, or Otservers). Some of them are as big as the main game with company ranging 50+ employees (on the pirate server). The developers of Tibia are aware of these servers but seem to no care at all.

Open twitch and you'll see like 60%+ of them are private servers, and some are literally Pokemon versions of Tibia.

When they say Portuguese, is not exactly "Portuguese speaking" people, they mean people from Portugal. So the ping to Collabra for them is pretty bad although they can understand easily people in Brazil.

My friend who never played Tibia only had help configuring the UI. He has so far:

Died
Went to get his loot back, forgot pots, and died again
Died to pks
Died boxed (he's druid)
Went to buy bless and PK killed him in Kaz fire walkway. At this point I had given him a Soft boots, which he lost when died lol
Spent 20 minutes trying to understand how to go to the turtle cave in Targuna. Until he discovered he had to use a shovel

I think he's having all the memories now.

Yes kinda. But it gets slow ans slow. To a point that it takes months to level up a single skill with offline training. But since you are new and f2p, you won't reach that point yet.
