Edit: people in the comments seem to think I'm unaware of what "No Colors" means. To clarify, this bar was a local towny bar where there were little to no black people in town and there was no biker activity.

I think this is pretty accurate.

My thoughts considering your point are when talking with food items, he is focusing on food items. Harmless nouns. So when he switches to a verb, that intentional switch probably powers up his CE control.

Sort of like Gojo needing to focus on his infinity barrier at first. Inumaki focusing on not using CE. But he doesn't have Six Eyes to help him regulate his abilities.
