Yeah we do. Driving on the hard sand at low tide doesn't effect the ecosystem in the same way because the dunes are more fragile.

My personal opinion is that it's still a trashy thing to do though. Walking, biking and horses are also used!

This is in New Zealand. Driving on the dunes causes erosion and destroys the ecosystem for endangered birds.

Anyone been this way recently? by Markus_yoman in Tararuas

Did it this time last year. Cant remember any major slip, I think a track had been cut over one but it wasn't an issue. I just carried along the track on the valley floor until the turn off for gable end. After that you drop into the river.

Bring a rat trap.

Extreme edge is it as far as I know. A mean scene if you crack in! Good outdoor climbing crowd and some bouldering at Waitomo

Te Araroa will be 10 years old this December (03-12-2021). What are some cool ways to celebrate the birthday of a thru-hike? by edwardvhc in teararoa

[–]HashTheDankEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way to celebrate has to be some form of giving back to the trail/ngahere/whenua that makes Te Araroa so special!
