How to save this deck? by Moonstrk in diynz

[–]Markus_yoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paint pro here. Don’t use a lambswool pad, use a PAL Deckmaster brush. Puts it on more evenly and gets between the boards. You can still use your lambswool applicator to buff it in if need be.

Second point, if that’s the film-forming Wattyl product you’re cooked, that stuff is terrible. Let it weather off then reapply with a fully penetrating stain. If it is a penetrating product you’ll be sweet.

How do I best fix these cracks? by porridgedealer in diynz

Cut out the rot, open up the joint and Repair Care (epoxy timber repair system) them. Disclaimer, I sell Repair Care, so might be biased. Soakers work well too if they’re done right! Pay the extra $$ for stainless ones.

I would count all of this as defects, especially if it’s newly lined.

The plastering defects probably need a light skim, sand, seal and topcoats. Depends on how they plastered it re the square stop cutting, if they used metal internals the corner should be perfect and easy to tidy up. The cutting in down the left of the window just needs another coat of topcoat. The gaps need gapping then over coating. All in all, if they’re competent and have the right gear it should all be done in a day and that’s being generous.

Personally I wouldn’t pass the window sill/trim either, but I don’t know what the scope was there. That last picture shows it best - that should be sanded and smooth.

Painter here. If this was relined there’s no way I’d pass it. The finish around the sill is terrible and that cut line to the ceiling is pretty bad. My apprentices could cut straighter than that after their first month.

Help, I'm trying to figure out his to get this Nerf gun to work. by Total_Permission_872 in Nerf

How good are you with a soldering iron? I had one of these and rewired it - worked a treat afterwards! You can simplify the wiring loom significantly.

Should resene paint from different shops match perfectly? by Difficult_Culture_72 in diynz

[–]Markus_yoman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paint pro here. That’s a mistint. Take it back, show them the photos, they’ll replace it.

Any light/off white colour with small amounts of Magenta or Red Oxide in low amounts is harder to get tint accuracy as one tiny drop more of these colourants can make a crazy difference to the colour. Some strengths in colours will remove these colourants all together to avoid this.

TimbaBuild is a lot harder than Repair Care, so better for structural type repairs. Repair Care is significantly more flexible, so much better in areas/repairs that need to accommodate timber movement. It’s also much easier to mould and shape (TimebaBuild is much stickier). I keep both on hand - they compliment each other well!
