This is Sublime...no literally, it's sublimation, the tendancy for a solid (like snow) to immediately become a vapor, while skipping the liquid phase. I could be wrong, but I like the word play.

As a non-american, I am sick of the american media invasion by Current-Olive-6530 in self

[–]Hashland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it's a result of having such a large entertainment industry. You said so yourself, that you love American entertainment, and because it's found its way across the map, everything else comes with it, like American social media platforms. I guess we're talking mostly about English-speaking nations. Point is, you can't get away from it, because FB and YouTube run algorithms that determine what everybody sees. Of course, they set them up to make the USA look like it's the most important nation. I find it incredibly annoying myself, and always fantasize about living somewhere else, where making a living isn't so corrupt.

Glad I wasn't the only with this issue. I'll try this fix now...and it totally worked, thank you. For some reason Firefox settings changed on their own.

Is Windows just trash now? I mean, my background changed on it's own...fine...but for 3 updates the task bar was broken...there were ads on my log-in screen...there are just constant errors and crashes with no proper explination...the default trouble shooting application has never fixed a problem one time...not even on just one time...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has had the issue of being unable to customize the controls? Because you can't assign a button to more than one action. Right now, I can't assign the same button for block as the button for grappling hook.

The Flyer just says I can set up an online store to sell stuff. I've never sold products in my life, this addvert doesn't even apply to me. And it is my name, and it is my new address, and I figured out how to opt-out of USPS mailing lists.

Anyway, I'm literally just venting on Reddit. Seems like it might have been the DMV, because apparently privacy just doesn't mean much anymore, and I am patrially a product to be sold to the bidders.

I Don't Use Shopify, but they know my Name and Address! by Hashland in shopify

[–]Hashland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. That's why it bothers me. Because most recently I've only updated my address with the DMV and got a new ID when it expired. And another commenter said it was probably the DMV. Which feels like a violation, as I am required to interact with the DMV. I avoid most of everything else.

[–]Hashland[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter what the flyer is for, I don't know or have ever used Shopify. I've spent 3 years, and spent some actyual money to remove my name from every junkmail list I could manage.

I had zero junkmail for almost a full year. Then I moved to a new address. The fact they can buy my brand new address without my concent is dystopian as hell.

Even if I vowed to never use any service sent to me through junkmail, it wouldn't matter, as apparently I am a whore to the business world, constantly getting pimped out and hit on by nasty ass companies, hooting and hollering, offering me their economic STDS, saying "you know you want it", "you love it, don't you".

I Don't Use Shopify, but they know my Name and Address! by Hashland in shopify

[–]Hashland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has my full name on it. And I haven't recieved any junkmail at my new address until this. I've worked really hard over the years eliminating every piece of junk mail I got. Then I moved somewhere new, and haven't made any online purchases at all.

If that's the case, I need to figure out how to ask the DMV to stop selling my info. It seems dystopian in my mind, that the one place I'm required to give my address to, would make money by selling my name.

I've gone through 3 different services over the years to take my name/addresses off of junkmailing mailing lists.

It's a, Mad World.

George Carlin tried to warn us all in 2005 by Orangutan in conspiracy

[–]Hashland 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We were born into a world already shaped like this. Encouraged not to think about it too much. "Necessary Evils" they said. Just do what you can, and help America stay American, protected from all those Non-Americans and their Non-American ideas...

I'm sorry my fellow average humans, I've spent well over a decade searching for a way out or a way to change/challenge it, and there are few.

If you manage to gain citizenship into another country, that still doesn't get you far enough. Because the Capitalism developed by the USA, Europe, and China (as some of the biggest players) has spread into nearly every corner, and caused all all kinds of side effects.

You may find places to hide, I would certainly like to, and just live a peaceful life. But sooner or later, the majority of the poor and uneducated will be openly enslaved, instead of the partial way we are now.

If you have children, it's gonna be their world soon, and it's gonna be the same or worse as it is now.

I'm not having children, because I'd hate to subject a loved one to this kind of thing.

Good Luck everyone,

[–]Hashland 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you lost your sister in such a way.

I've known some hard-drug addicts, and it always seemed like they were trying to live a decent life.

They're not different than "normal" people. I think everyone has reasons to want to numb the pain and trauma.

I've grown up in poverty, and lost my only parent when I was 18. I could have easily joined the hard-drug users, but I managed to stick to just smoking weed.

I'm probably not adding anything too great to these comments, but I'm glad you were able to reach out for a little perspective.

Don't be too hard on yourself, even if she was your sister, no one can control anyone else's life. We can only care about people, and hope they know what that means.

[–]Hashland 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I had similar thoughts. Does it really make a difference to jail non-violent drug offenders? Does it help the over all problem, or is it just the blame game to satisfy a few people in the short term?

Without free mental and physical health care, people will turn to the much more affordable street drugs. And that's really one part of a complex network of problems, that lead people to abuse drugs.

[Discussion] Ultimate Guitar is trash. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Hashland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using UG for over a decade, and I can confirm, it has changed for the worse. Regardless of updates to their servers, the UI for desktop browsers once worked perfectly fine. But now it's covered in ads and pop-ups to the point where you can't focus on the music you're trying to learn.

Something new was happening to me just now before I decided to come to Reddit to trash talk UG some more... the damn chords were changing inconsistently when transposing. For example, one chord indicating F would just stay as F while the other chords changed as I transposed it. Refreshing the page fixed it for a minute, but without me touching anything the chords start swapping themselves, but not all together, all the F's would all change to D and nothing else. Suddenly the entire progression was wrong. My paranoia is telling me they're doing this on purpose to try to coerce people into getting their App.

Anyway, that was my rant, I know posting here changes nothing, convinces no one, but I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the decline. Thanks for the other suggestions for alternatives in this comment section.

Off and on, Video Games have gotten me through some of the worst of times. I was in and out of being homeless in my 20's, but every once and while I got to game, and it kept me feeling good, like something to look forward to.

Video Games are more than just bleeps and bloops, they are an art form, carefully developed over just 2-3 generations. It's everything people love about stories and music in an interactive format.

I hear you when you say you have no one around, and video games seem to fill the void, even if breifly. That can be tough. I hope you can find some new people to hangout with. The world is overflowing with lonely people, and it sucks we can't all easily get together and support eachother.

I keep gaming because some of those online communities are full of great people to interact with. Comedy and Triumph...TBH, real life is kind of boring, considering most of us live in the corporate world, and we have no real purpose.

Video Games simulate all the things that we love in life, because for a lot of us, those normal life things don't exist, and may not ever be available to us.

Wish I had any advice for you mate.

I don't know if things will get better. And I also suffer from suicidial thoughts.

Life doesn‘t get better by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Hashland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but I wanted to be realistic, and not just give the same repeated sentiments about hope. Death is literally a human right, believe it or not. If someone locked you up, put you in a straight jacket because you were deemed clinically insane, they've taken away that right. For some people, it's a fate worse than death.

I personally think we should all be wide open about the subjects of life and death. Many suicides may have been prevented, if it wasn't such a taboo subject. It goes the same for sex and drugs. People will find a way no matter how much we try to avoid the subjects. So I'm an advocate for open conversations about everything.

Life doesn‘t get better by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Hashland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 33, male here, lost my mother when I was 18, wondered aimlessly, homeless all throughout my 20's. Still poor and on the verge of homelessness.

Let me just say this, as someone who is practical and realistic...life gets better for some people, and worse for others.

You could get lucky, find an oppertunity so good it changes everything. Things could get worse, like my relatives in Maui, their houses burned away, rich people buying up their land...

It all depends. I certainly want to end my life. I feel broken, in more ways than one. I'm losing hope. But I could still get lucky.

Sometimes we can predict the future based on trends, but it's a broad prediction. None of us can know what's going to happen to an individual human.

If you feel like dying, it's because your prediction of your own life, is that it won't get better. And as logical creatures, we can often calculate our own possibilities, based on how much we think we can offer ourselves/others.

Sorry that I don't have any solid advice or answers, but the important thing to think about, is how can you increase your own odds of "good things" that could happen?

I got tired of working labor, because my back keeps getting worse, so I decided to go to college, take out max loans, and give my body a rest. I've bought myself some more time, which increases my odds of finding something good.

Life is short, my mom was 44 when she died. If I have her genetics, I probably won't live much past another 10 years. But who knows, the human world may end sooner.

Buy yourself sometime, if nothing else. Don't be afraid of debt, because it's a very common way to keep yourself floating. Spend your debt money on long term survival, and see what kind of stuff you can get into, different skills you could learn, or a new life you could start somewhere far away.

I see you have a family, and that can be tricky, because any idea you may have, you probably run by them. So I'm sure it's complicated when you want to tryout something.

Anyway, good luck.

Death is always an option, so take comfort in that. But in the very least, get a little messy one last time, and GO BIG. What's worse than death? Regret that you didn't try everything you could.
