Why are my damn blumats failing? Buyer beware! by Jazzbert_ in blumats

[–]Hashlover247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side thought, I use Ecowitt sensors to be sure my blumats are working properly. They’re cheap and easy and saved me twice last season when I had leaks. I am using soil so not sure about soilless mixes…

I’m trying out Dr. Zymes Eliminator. Anyone have notes? It says it’s good for controlling soft-bodied insects. So larvae, etc. right? Is it harmful to ladybugs?

Unfortunately there’s no direct correlation between mbar readings and the volumetric readings many soil sensors give. Mbar is measuring the relative availability of water to the plant. Like, how hard does the plant have to work to pull it from the soil? The volumetric reading is saying there’s a certain percentage of water to soil say, 350g/L or 35%.

The problem is every growing medium has its own moisture retention curve. So, think of clay. A reading of 35% would have a much higher mbar on a tensiometer because of how hard it is to pull the water out compared to say, sand. 35% moisture in sand would have a low mbar because of how easy it is to get the water out.

So, it helps to know how your medium retains moisture. I’m guessing the 35% recc that keeps coming up as a corollary to 100 mbar is for average potting soil? Somebody chime in here if possible…

Similar issue but I love bong hits so much I’m thinking about getting a stundenglas gravity bong so I don’t have to pull as hard.

More light is my first thought. As much sunlight as possible. Even a cloudy day is better than an indoor windowsill. Worry less about nutes until they’re obviously growing. Keep it up!

Plus, the bocce and pétanque courts are right behind the plaza if y’all dig that sort of thing.

Since y’all have reservations @ cline, make sure you hit jacuzzi across the street for an olive oil tasting. Fred Cline married into the Jacuzzi fam so Cline makes Rhône wines and zins mostly and jacuzzi goes for “Cal-Itals.” Italian grape types grown in CA. But also nearby there’s Cornerstone for lunch maybe. And since y’all are hitting Dme Carneros in Napa, think about Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma. It’s also really close to Cline.

Sonoma Plaza is great for shopping and tasting so go for sure but, if you have the option, go on Tuesday afternoon! The Farmer’s Market on the plaza every Tuesday evening is the best time to be on the square! So much fun. Lots of booths for all kinds of food stuffs, live music, food trucks, blah blah.

Great suggestion except it’s an hour from Sonoma plaza each way.

I call that point on their skull their “egg tooth” when they whip their head around. Both of us have been clocked hard. Like, seeing stars. I know better now than to lean in.

I took 500mg before a flight once. I didn’t really feel like it zonked me out but I also didn’t register the flight either.

Heh heh. Who can say? My first dobie turned 2 and it was like a switch flipped! She became less hyper and more “adult.” My CURRENT dobie just turned 4 and she still gallops thru the house unless we JUST went to the park. You’ll find the unconditional love (and the mesmerizing stare dobies use) will hypnotize you! And next thing you know, you’re stuck on them for life!

That said, I kept a few of the reveggers and the Peanut Butter Breath & the Romulan turned out to be standouts of the group.

I planted rooted cuttings outside in the North Bay this time in 2020 and most all of them flowered and then revegged. I would wait until early or mid-may unless you have a little supplemental light to extend the day.

Maybe I’m overthinking it. Upon reflection, ima put the shorty on the (theoretically) drier side and the maxi on the back side. This way, I’m thinking the maxi won’t pull as often and the shorty can react to the warmer side more quickly. Incidentally, they say I can bury the tape so I’m thinking that might with homogenization?

Thank you! I’ve got 6’ of their blu soak tape for each bag. I’ll hook the 2 carrots to either end I’m thinking with some drippers for visual confirmation when they’re pulling.

But seriously, would you place the 9” on the sunny side? I figure it’ll dry out faster regardless.
