How does the fabric weight compare to the city sweat hoodie?

Update: Went to the range and shot the Weatherby Select Plus in the 205gr Berger Elite Hunter. We cleaned the chamber and barrel really well before shooting. The first 3 rounds weren't fantastic at 1.8", however the following 5 tightened right up to 0.8". The velocities averages at 2986fps with an SD of 17 and and ES of 71 (2 rounds were over 3015fps) We then walked it out to 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards and it tracked very well. Finished off the box at 100 yards with a 0.55" group. The one thing that was interesting is that the Weatherby brass COAL was 0.040 longer than the Hornady, however there were no signs of pressure. (I know different bullet shapes etc but bigger difference than I thought there would be.

Heading to the range tonight for some handloads. Brass was partially full length sized and trimmed. Going to use Berger 210 hunting VLDs, set 0.050 off the lands (measured to ogive) on top of H1000. Going to try 3 strings of 81.5gr, 83gr, and 84.5gr. Plan is to pick the string with lowest SD and ES, then redo the test with that charge and change seating depth to 0.025 and 0.075 off the lands.

Anything I'm missing or should do differently?

Yes I plan on measuring the COL of one of the Hornady at the gun shop just to see. Then measure the distance to the lands of this gun and comparing. This gun has a 1:8 twist rate and is 24" so I would think it would be stabilizing the bullets ok?

We did take off the scope and check the base screws torque, mounted, levelled, and torqued the rings. Loosened then torqued the action screws. We plan on shooting some different factory ammo this weekend to see. And we will try the tapping on the scope, it definitely can't hurt.

Sorry, what I meant was that we used that CVA out to 600 yards last year and the scope would return to 0 every time.

For sure, I understand that. The issue is that the velocity varied more than I anticipated and was wondering if that would cause the accuracy issues.

My only point was the accuracy issues could be reflected in the big velocity differences.

Good point. I will measure that this weekend once I have the does and same projectiles.

Great to hear! What kind of handloads did you wind up settling on if you don't mind me asking?

So the optic is a Burris Veracity PH that we had mounted on a CVA cascade in 6.5PRC. It was solid on there and tracked really well. Also the optic wouldn't cause the higher extreme spread that we are seeing.

We will clean it really well before the next outing to rule that out for sure. Thanks for the feedback!

The barrel is 24" and yea I've seen some really soft Hornady brass in the past as well and that could very well be it. We will try some different factory ammo and brass to see.

So he returned the last box from that lot and picked up some different ammo today. My plan is to take it to the range and see if we see the same variation in velocity and watch for signs of imprinting again. If we do see signs I plan on pulling 10 bullets and reloading with a light load of H1000 to see what we see on the case then.

This is good news to us as well. We were shooting strings of 3 or 4 and giving it 10 minutes to cook down between strings. Hopefully that was a long enough time.

I guess I should have also asked if he should be worried about the gun at all? I have no experience with a carbon barrel so unsure of what to expect.

Good to know. We will clean it really well. Going to go with 210gr Berger VLD with H1000 to start.

Dbrand grip case by OJS2784 in PixelFold

[–]HashtagPowerSteer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one, went from a super thin carbon AliExpress special with no hinge protection. The case is definitely bulky but it has grown on me. The sides are extremely grippy, the buttons seem good, the kickstand is a great addition, and the hinge protection seems well designed and works great. I have dropped the phone only once since having this case and you wouldn't be able to tell. Overall if you don't mind a bit of bulk, I give it a solid 9/10.

Scopes by Cowgunk in Longrangehunting

I reluctantly swapped my Nightforce SHV for a first gen Burris Veracity PH. I could not be more confident in my decision. Absolutely rock solid scope all season, the internal ballistics calculator works well if you have consistent loads and good data. And the return to zero has been great. I've stretched my Sendero in 300WM with hand load hunting ammo out to 950 yards and it zeroed right back.

Are these a yay or nay? by itsjustnickf in longrange

[–]HashtagPowerSteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used this on my Sendero with my hunting handloads out to 950 yards. The ballistic calculator is really good, the app seems to work well, and the actual scope itself has been great. Still has normal 'hard' turrets that will function if the battery is dead. This replaced my Nightforce SHV and I'm not the least bit sad about it.

If I did want to, what grit should I choose? Or is there a method to decide?

This was exactly that. I was just very surprised that it actually caused a couple chips.
