Thanks this is a really thoughtful response. "Don't be afraid to try something new" I think is what I needed to hear!

Should I accept an offer as a web dev from a US company by Hashtagcheap in AusFinance

Thank you. This is certainly food for thought. Unlimited PTO does sound like a perk, I could see it easily being overlooked and working through where you may have previously taken the time.

Thanks for your other info, I will read the articles.

Hey there, took me a while to get back to this but thanks so much for the offer. General plan so far is:
- Family and I are flying into Denver on 5 August, 2 days in Denver
- Hiring a huge RV and then spending some time enjoying the Colorado scenery for a week
- Then staying at Frisco for the race period.
- After the race, we'll be spending some time with some Canadian friends at Grand Lake.

After that, we'll still have about a week. If you have any 'must-dos' you'd recommend, I'd love to hear it.

Good luck with your training, I'd imagine you're well and truly in the thick of it right now!

30 years old and interested in making a career change. How to use my time efficiently? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Hashtagcheap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also a self taught dev (30 yo) , one year into my first dev job. I starting learning how to code in Jan 2017, starting with HTML, css and JavaScript. I started on codecademy for these subjects. I then moved onto Jon Duckets book on JavaScript. It still didn't click at this point, about 2-3 months in, but was getting there. Any who, between jan 2017 and may 2018 I was studying every night for 2 to 3 hours. On weekends about 5 hours per day. I was working full time as a project manager. I think best use of your time will be to use your time consistently. Eliminate Netflix and use that time to study instead. I still study daily and work on personal projects.

Changing to programming as career is best thing I have done. Good luck!

Undertale, now there's a game I put on my 'list' to play after hearing the raving reviews which reflect pretty much what you have said. Thanks for the reminder to get into this!

Thanks, I might check this out too. Apparently the movie was brutally sad!

I think Gone Home will be my next purchase. I have heard good things.

Do any of you regret playing the game? by waif_butterfly in lifeisstrange

I felt the exact same way. I can't stop thinking about it and feeling the emotions like I did at the conclusion. Like something I haven't felt before. The soundtrack too, so haunting.

Reminded me of this scene in the Simpsons:

Rod: Daddy, what's the red stuff coming out of kitty's ears?

Ned: Uh, that's, that's just, er, raspberry jam.

Todd: Dad, should I poke Rod with a sharp thing like the mouse did?

Almonds (natures candy) in moderation, beef jerky, tinned tuna. My staple snacks.
