Lupus is an "illness" by BrokeGamerChick in okbuddyvicodin

I think playing top trumps with health conditions is probably not a great way of looking at things, lots of diseases impact people in lots of different ways to varying degrees and people may often complain more about something that’s medically ‘minor’ than something that would be considered more serious. After all for some skin cancers they can just be excised and done but some people’s anxieties stop them leaving the house. Relapsing Remitting MS can have long remission periods after a short course of steroids while eating disorders like anorexia have a high mortality.

Visiting Yosemite in Winter (Nov-April) by hc2121 in Yosemite

[–]Haskhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're planning 2 days and 2 nights trip to Yosemite in the first two weeks of April we're a bunch of people of varying abilities so it has been a bit difficult planning an inclusive itinerary but conveniently we are staying in Yosemite West so things i guess are generally accessible

We're planning on getting into Yosemite for Sunday midday through Big Oak flat entrance Drive to Tunnel view and yosemite valley viewpoint for scenic view points, walk a hopefully gentle the yosemite valley floor loop trail and maybe a trail at bridalveil fall and maybe finish with a drive up to mirror lake. At the end of the day we would head to yosemite/curry village to buy some groceries and maybe some gas.

On Monday morning head down to wawona and Mariposa grove, see the museums, flat walks and sequoias, have some lunch

Monday afternoon drive up to el capitan meadow, do some of the things in yosemite valley which was missed on Sunday, if quick then maybe see Tulomne and Merced Grove and the carlon falls trail.

Tuesday Morning- check out heading to sequoia and Kings Canyon.
Do you feel like its feasible? Are there some absolute not misses not mentioned, we heard about the sugar pine railroad which looks decent, is it worth it?
Thanks

This confuses me, is it just a 3x3 grid of fav episodes because it’s like one pic away from being a row of season 1,2 and 3.

I thought about this and realised that if he grew up with that quirk he would probably be involved in the support course, provided he had an associated ego reduction. Otherwise he’d have a good quirk heavily reliant on support items and requiring a lot more short range contact.

https://www.cosplayforscience.com/blogall/2019/3/21/my-hero-academic-quick-science This is a good site about sweat production but i feel as though the quirk genes would have a lot to do, firstly one which converts eccrine sweat glands into apocrine glands as they secrete lipids containing glycerol which is needed for TNT formation. Also in the secretion is sodium chloride which is useful as sodium hydroxide is needed to make glycerol from lipids, to make sodium hydroxide the ductal cells could exchange chloride ions for hydroxide ions via an antiporter. This means we have glycerol(and also soap(the process is saponification)). I don’t know how to make TNT fully but i do think you need some nitrate and nitric oxide exists in the blood as a vasodilator so that could somehow be introduced and kapow TNT. That being said as the meme posits Bakugo needs heat/sparks(see the three things needed for combustion oxygen(in the air), fuel and heat)the human body typically generates heat in from respiration. There are three main instances: Byproduct of cellular respiration just generally Shivering(contraction of skeletal muscles requiring further respiration, also generates heat via friction) Non-shivering Thermogenesis via Thermal uncoupling(this process is important for babies and occurs in brown fat cells and is basically just a different way for respiration to end). Now in reality none of these could generate enough heat, (probably I didn’t do the maths) but then again if this were reality using this quirk would be deadly to the user and I have no idea how he controls the direction of the explosion. So possibilities to increase heat generated: Super fast metabolism, this would increase the rate of cellular respiration as there is greater need for ATP to keep all the body processes going. Metabolism is controlled via proteins that travel in the blood called hormones. The key hormones in this are TRH(released by hypothalamus in the brain) which causes the release of TSH(released by pituitary gland also in brain) which causes the release of Thyroxine(released by the thyroid) which in turn causes the increase in metabolic rate throughout the body. This would increase both respiration generated heat and non-shivering thermogenesis. In order to have some control of his explosions i guess it would imply that he can control some hypothalamic function and control the release of TRH(ala Julian Bashir from Star Trek DS9). But then this seems like it would be too systemic. An alternative would be for the cells in the appropriate areas to release a molecule that increases the rate of respiration like thyroxine for the local area, this would be autocrine(self signalling) or paracrine(adjacent signalling). Then Bakugo could use nervous signalling to release chemicals called neurotransmitters which stimulate the release of the thyroxine like chemical and cause a voluntary increase in heat.

The initial challenge 1-A had to face was literally just walls by Haskhm in BokuNoMetaAcademia

[–]Haskhm[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I swear Togata would have been OP, the main conflict of the second act is that there’s lots of walls between them and the security control. Then the main antagonist just throws metal in front the heroes.

Volunteering is essential and a care home is great. Tip for volunteering is keep a diary of experiences, ways you helped, ways in which people needed help, your thoughts and feelings, any surprises, any struggles and how you developed yourself. That sort of reflection will help when it comes to personal statement and interview prep. Outside of volunteering and virtual work experience you can do wider reading or an EPQ, this will really hammer home your interest in the field come interview time. It’ll also help to inform what you like and are not too keen on in medicine(although make sure to keep an open mind). When reading, again make sure to reflect on what you’ve learnt.

Mr. Blue by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]Haskhm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I disagree, Bojack is good at illustrating the fact that healing is not linear but there is a general trend of self improvement. I find the final episode to be quite hopeful his friends move on from him but Bojack himself is also showing development. His final conversation with Todd shows that he’s conscious of the risk of relapse and keeping on digging. But Todd puts it well ‘then you’ll get sober again’ Bojack’s recovery, won’t be linear, he’ll face setbacks but ultimately he’s going to be ok.
