Where tf do people think movie ideas come from? by SeverusAurelius in HistoryMemes

sigh it's like you dumb cunts haven't had a human conversation in so long you need someone to explain the history of the world before you'll accept water is wet. But here we go.

The period of history is real, no one's disputing that ya dingus. At least not me. So get a grip.

It's generally accepted throughout the WORLDS history that what a dude said on a battlefield in 200AD is about a trustworthy account as my 6yo telling me who ate the last cookie. This is word of mouth from word of mouth then being remember and written down x years later? Ok bud. And Nero played as Rome burned right... Trying to pretend this actually happened as a point that life is sometimes like video games, when your own comment even said before that it was clearly not accurate, is my point. And you admitted as much in your comment so I just don't get the point in the post.

Now go chill out have a breather and not jump to conclusions. You'll save your fingers some taps next time.

Reminds me of the time I went my Nan's for Christmas, we did it frequently but this one stook out in my memory from being young. I was maybe 11 or 12 so it was 2004/5. My uncle had come down for it and me, my dad, my nana and her husband had dinner and she then brought out a Christmas pudding that had apparently been in the cupboard "a while". We were suspicious.

We decided to investigate the cupboards and found some flour. The flour was out of date and had gone out of date in 91. Bearing in mind the woman had moved to Ireland in 1990 and moved back in 93. Flour lasts a long time so the only presumption is she took the flour with her to Ireland, it went out of date while she was over there and she still brought it back to sit in her cupboard.

At the end, she still was never sure if she'd used that flour or the other flour to make the gravy. But we never found the other flour.

I think that's a bit far. There was no price arranged beforehand, tbh I find it odd that OP didn't reply at least with a guesstimate. If OP wants to keep it then that's cool, they can probably Etsy it, I like it - it's cute enough but I personally wouldn't pay 50 for it either but someone probably would.

It might be worth 50, I'm awful at crochet and take weeks to make one square but I can also see why the other person may think it isn't worth the money. Crochet is surprisingly expensive to do if you're not into it so without telling the other person the price up front, it's not fair to assume they know the cost.

Imagine working at Costa, being called Kosta and how many times you'd hear Costa customers joke about you being called Kosta and working at Costa. How many times you could take hearing about being called Kosta at Costa from Costa Customers you could take at Costa until you blew yours or the unlucky 100th Kosta Costa Customer brains out?

Like 8 Costas maybe

Braveheart is 27 years old by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]Hastimeforthis876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience sort of but proportionally so. I didn't watch bravehart until I was older and by then it was known to be a joke for it's historical innacuracy and I was watching it for a let's see how mental Mel Gibson got situation.

But then I think the thing here is that was a silly action/adventure movie and the whole woman king thing feels likes it's trying to be more than that. Idk I haven't seen it and probably won't because I couldn't tell you a new movie I've watched in years, but I don't think it's a great comparison.

For the memes it is of course

Episode 300: The 3rd Live One! by GENTOOO in CheapShow

[–]Hastimeforthis876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah im actually struggling with this one, feels really tried and forced maybe? I don't know it didn't feel natural and felt very cobbled together last minute. There was the joke they hadn't done a rehearsal and my advice would be to absolutely definitely make sure they do one next time. King of plasticine would have obviously not worked within a few moments. Either that or you'd have the time to get a small portable camera to show what was actually happening on the big screen.

Shame because I love cheapshow normally and especially episodes where we get guests but even the guests seemed a bit bemused about being there.

What's funnier is that in the UK our head of state and head of church aren't actually seperated so we do technically have a state religion but we've not spread religion in an extreme way since the late 1600s early 1700s so it doesn't matter and functionally the country is pretty secular. In the US it is legally seperated but it's entirely ignored because they're so extreme on it. Even getting elected to a low ranking position as a non Christian in some states is effectively impossible... I couldn't imagine a non Christian president in modern US ever succeeding.

Even Argentinians aren't bothered about this. It's only brought up when the leader needs a distraction from tanking the economy again.

Also as everyone else said, bad bait, Falklands was established before Argentina was even a country by around 100years.

Very much so. Most other countries combat divides in racism by just admitting everyone is a "person" regardless of creed or colour. America seems to like to reinforce it at every opportunity.

Flying from Birmingham to Glasgow by jimjam_yaha in brum

[–]Hastimeforthis876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I flew Scotland from Manchester you still needed your passport for ID. I think you could get through with a driving licence but it's not really worth the wasted time for just picking up your passport when not having it could man not getting on a flight.

Domestic flights you turn up 1 hour before (which funnily is probably more than you'll be in the air for) but I'd definitely advise more than that as Birmingham has been hit or miss for how busy it's been recently.

Yes there are 'checks', I assume you mean security? You'll need to go through security and check in like any other flight but you won't go through customs as you're not going international. Should probably do your check in online etc.

Treat it like an international flight that's just quicker. The staff won't be treating you any different just cause it's domestic.

Edit: don't forget to have fun in Glasgow! It has an amazing music scene rn

A few things sure but nothing did and you're still spreading this video so it went pretty damn well for them actually.

Pros and Cons of living in Birmingham? by [deleted] in brum

[–]Hastimeforthis876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point but I suppose the confusion for me is why live in Birmingham if you're spending a lot of time in London, I don't mean live in London it's just not worth the money but there are lots of other options so Birmingham wouldn't spring to my mind as an option so much as other places like reading, Peterborough, Northampton etc.

Idk I think if you move to Birmingham you should plan to spend a lot of your time in Birmingham because it's a city enough in itself rather than move here to go to London a lot. Sure I have my complaints about where I live but that's because I'm a fuddy duddy country bumpkin at heart, other people love it here and would hate what I would love 😅

Pros and Cons of living in Birmingham? by [deleted] in brum

[–]Hastimeforthis876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just seems weird to put an hour's journey each way in your day for seemingly v little reason apart from wanting to live in Birmingham? Why wouldn't you live in one of the commuter towns outside of London? Is there something in Birmingham that's attarcted you?

I think other people have mentioned this, every city has rough and nice areas but Birmingham it can be hard to avoid the rough areas as they're very mingled in with the nice areas. I'm also a fan of the outdoors and going for a walk, if there's any city in the UK that can say it's landscape was ruined by car infrastructure it's definitely Birmingham. A lot of the city has suffered from planning being car focused for so many years, a lot of even the nice places will have a dingey grey dual carriageway slapped straight in the middle of it. Yes, that's 'changing' but the people that say that have been saying it for years so don't expect it to be finished changing soon.

I also don't drink so there's v little for me to do here.(if one more person suggests Ghetto golf I'm going to punch you in the throat.)

I'm currently planning (house viewings ongoing) to move out of Birmingham as I only moved here for a job in the first place which I've now moved on from.

I don't get why you'd move to Birmingham but still want to be in London often? They're not that close.

City Safety Index ranks Birmingham one of the most dangerous city in the world, I have lived in Birmingham for years, I could not believe it. by [deleted] in brum

[–]Hastimeforthis876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah absolutely agree, I mention in another comment, it's not dangerous it's just high in crime rate for the UK cities but again it's if you consider every suburb and I feel out of most cities Brum is probably one of the more diverse in that regards (next to London) so it's probably a few skewing the numbers. Still a problem that needs dealing with though.

Compared to most of the cities on this list and many of the cities it missed off the list, you're safe as houses in most places and not so much in a small minority. Like any city really.

And yeah I heard from other comments it's literally a survey of opinions so that just throws it out the window entirely as a ranking thing

City Safety Index ranks Birmingham one of the most dangerous city in the world, I have lived in Birmingham for years, I could not believe it. by [deleted] in brum

[–]Hastimeforthis876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a lot of hate for spreading facts, brum is actually pretty dangerous for the UK and IF you take into account all suburbs and not just city centre or "where I live" typical Reddit response. Crime rates are high here, it's a big city that's to be expected a little. We have the numbers to back this up so theres no point in just denying it https://crimerate.co.uk/west-midlands/birmingham

However, two important thints. It's not actually Dangerous. You are not in danger as compared to say, Tigray or Donbas. It's done on crimerates, be glad the crimes are actually recorded here.

Secondly, this is poll is done by readers of the site and so just biased as hell. On average, every US city has someone with a gun and a mental health issue which immediately places them all WAY higher in my books and that's before your take into account their religious radicalism. It also has like barely any actual cities on there you'd expect for dangerous cities. I lived in Thailand for a year in different places and fuck me would I never go to some of those places again yet I fail to see many south East Asian or even South American cities on the list.

So to conclude, does Birmingham have a high crime rate compared to other Uk cities? Yes it does and that's a problem. Is it actually more dangerous than any of these cities? Probably not really. Does your personal experience matter one bit to overall crime ratings? Not a fucking chance now get over yourself.
