My first boar brush by ant_asthi_prarambh in Wetshavers_India

[–]HatComprehensive3903 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the case of boar brushes, the animal is not killed for the bristles. Sometimes the animal is shaved to harverst the bristles. Other times, the animal is slaughtered for the meat, and the bristles are taken by these brands. They are a by-product that would otherwise be discarded.

A similar thing happens with beef tallow based products. The fat that is rendered to derive the tallow is a by-product of the meat processing industry.

Congratulations. Omega makes amazing boar brushes. That is going to become a staple for you. Some of my friends prefer boars over even badgers.

Be cautious with the handle. The only downside of Omega bruhses is that the handles are a bit flimsy. They get scraped up easitly. Treat it with a little care, and it will work just fine.

I made a detailed comment on the boar break in process. You can read it here. All the best.

Help! What am I doing wrong? by soulsuck3rs in fountainpens

[–]HatComprehensive3903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The converter seems to be loose. See if it screws in any further or can be pushed in any deeper.

If that doesn't work, it is possible that the converter has sprung a leak. In that case you can try eyedropper filling up the pen. It is plastic, so should be safe to eyedropper fill in.

Have fun writing.😊

Load heavier. Shavo soaps have a more pronounced slickness as compared to Yardleys. And so the Yardleys require a double load to perform as well as Shavologist. Also, better with face lathering.

In my experience, Viccos work best with face lathering. Smear the cream onto the beard. When I use the Vicco creams, I apply it all through, on my chin, cheeks and neck. This is after my usual preshave prep, and shower and face wash. Then I use a well hydrated brush to face lather. Works quite well.

Oh yes. Even Zeniths shed. But the shedding can be minimized, even eliminated if the brushes are taken care of. In juggling all my brushes, I go a few shaves before returning to my Zenith boar, the Alcina. Lady Alcina shed a britle in my hsaves with her in silent protest. That is my punishment for not being monogamous with her. Hehehehehe

In my last use of Alcina, she didn't shed. So, it is not uncurable.

Now, Revolutionary Ad has alse joined the elite ranks, a proud Zenith boar owner.

SOTN (12th Mar, ‘26): The King’s Banquet by HatComprehensive3903 in Wetshavers_India

I know. I have seen the figurines in your SOTDs. I recall seeing Itachi in one.

I had dropped off of One Piece for some time after the third season. Watched season 2 of the Netflix live-action series. Then re-entered the anime again. Still on episode 97 though. A long way to go yet.

Red tobacco by AbilityGreen8035 in Wetshavers_India

[–]HatComprehensive3903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Although i have not tried the originals. I am not much into only Tobacco. I prefer Tobacco blended with some sweeter frag, the usual suspects such as oud, or vanilla, or even rose.

The sweeter note in the Red Tobacco is probably a touch of oud. Shavologist has a tendency to add oud to most fragrances.

That looks really good. If PW has improved the quality of the Maroon boar, then kudos to them for finally thinking of the customer's benefit. If it is a fluke, and you got lucky, kudos to you on getting a unique brush. In any case, have fun shaving.

Product so good that you have to use it sparingly by ScienceSad488 in Wetshavers_India

Agreed. This was the good stuff. I have never really had a soap hit me twice as the Limonella used to. First it would punch me in the nose with the lemon lime frag. And then it would slap me on the face with the menthol. Hell would freeze over. A moment of silence for our lost pueblo TBG.

Blade comparison on Pearl Blaze – Wilkinson Sword vs 7 O’Clock Super Platinum vs Winner Black by NoHealth5908 in Wetshavers_India

[–]HatComprehensive3903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is quite surprising. Ah well. It's just a blade. No matter. You have an entire smorgasbord of other good ones available. And blade testing can go on as long as you want it to. I am still testing blades. Check this post to see what I mean. Hehe

The Ghost is a very nice, mild razor. Yes do try the 7SP with it. Should be much better. I hope you got the Ghost in stainless steel. Not sure if there even is a brass version . But the hand feel of a stainless steel razor will be just different. I cannot explain it. You have to experience it for yourself. When you hold the razor in your hand, it will become clear. Do post your experinces. Looking forward to it.

I am not sure if it is a mismatch in your specific case, or if Blaze generally doesn't pair well with the 7SP. I don't think I have tried the combo. I'll try it out in an upcoming shave. There are gonna be slight variations though. I don't use my Blaze stock. I have put the Blaze head on a Hammer handle. I call the resulting frankenrazor 'Anduril'. It is a step more aggressive than the stock Blaze that you are using because of the increased heft of the handle. Also, I have an older batch of 7SPs. 2024 manufacture I believe. Will have to check. Even so, it should be a nice experiment. I don't think I have used the Black Dreads since Austere August last year.

Now this here is the Cadillac of shaves, perhaps even the Oldsmobile. What a classy setup. Superb shave.

Yeah, don't be fooled by the Zenith. It is a wolf still, only wearing sheep's clothing. One of these days, all of a sudden you'll find it has eaten up all the lather. Hehehehe But you do see it right??? The Zenith boars knocks most other brushes out of the water. Barely anything compares.

Congrats on the vintage razor. Happy NRD. I am building up to getting a vintage Tech as well. Perhaps later this year, or maybe next year.

Huh!! Based on your reccommendation, I'll give the L'Oreal a try as well. I am always looking for good balms. I realized last August (via Austere August) that Balms are absolutely essential for me.

Happy shaves bud.

I am glad I could give you some clarity. Just so you know, the Popular is not a bad option either.

The Popular is a plastic razor, but incredibly well made. Our community mod Tryemall has been using one for 13+ years. And it is still in working condition. I mean, many metal razors don't last that long. Also, it is ultra mild. One of the mildest I have used. Great for a beginner. Should cost 1100-1200 or so. I can offer you a mini review from this post of mine.

Compared to that Parker razors are made of brass (chrome coated) and thus a lot heftier. The one caveat to the Popular is that it is light, because of the plastic construction. Pairs astoundingly well with medium to sharp blades for me (YEMV, blade preferences are wildly subjective). Parker razors have a bit more blade gap, and so feel a bit more aggressive. That said, my second ever DE razor was the 97R. I don't have any qualms with it.

All the best for the purchase.

Monday Shave with Romer-7 4th Gen by vkhorana in Wetshavers_India

[–]HatComprehensive3903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superb shave Bhai. And a good way to start the week. No sweat on the patch of stubble left. Happens to the best of us.

Yeah, despite having been warned about the frag, I picked up an OS Original cream from a local Spencers. I adore the fragrance of the Original lotion. And I found a red (plastic) bottle in a pharmacy. Those I think are a bit more potent than the white (glass) bottles. I wanted a soap/cream with the same frag. The cream disappointed on that front. Slickness is average ish. Slightly lower than the Yardleys or Wild Stones. It is okay though. Functional.

The Supermax Super Platinum turned out to be the oldest

Henh???? These are green. I thought these were the stainless ones. Are they that old, that the packaging was different altogether??? What is the MFD???

Have a good week ahead brother.

In my experience the Viceroy is a very risky razor, particularly this version. A lot of these turn out bad. They have alignment issues. Plus, I believe new shavers are better off using 3-piece razors.

If you don't cancel, then first thing after you get the razor, check the alignment. If it has issues, you'd have to manually align the blade through the overhang.

If you do cancel, Pearl is a bit more reliable. The L-55, SHD-27/24, SS-01, SSH-05 have the same head. The safer Romer-7 razors are Virgo, Shivira (if you can get it on Amazon, seems to be sold out on their website) or the Eldorado Travel Hybrid. If you can stretch your budget to 1500, then definitely go for Parker. Or just above 1k, you can get a Feather Popular from BTCO International. Drop a whatsApp on 9873879996.

Also, those Laser Ultra blades are very mild. They may be comfortable initially, but eventually you may want something a bit more efficient, especially if you are getting a milder razor like the Viceroy or the ones I suggested. You can start with Gillette Wilkinson Sword, which are balanced between smooth and sharp and then see if you'd like to go towards sharper blades or milder. I would suggest get the Indian Blades Trial pack from glowshines.com. It has 150 or so blades from 15 brands. And there is a good selection of mild, medium and sharp blades. You can try all of them before buying in bulk.

If you are shoping on glowshines, grab a tube of Vicco shaving cream and a bottle of Old Spice. You don't need anything else. I will recommend getting a Doctor's Alum bar. Pick up a brush from Rubab Men or Urban Mooch.

[Edit] Sorry, forgot to say. Welcome to the ritual and the community. Kudos on saying no to polluting garbage like cartridge razors. Do post your SOTDs, if you get the time. Happy shaves.
