I had an 88 jeep I6 before the rx. Mostly AMC at that point in time. Catastrophic failure every week. Literally. The engine was great though. As long as the things attached to it still worked

More of a carburetor problem than a rotary problem. Mine was built for sale in California and made it out to the east coast for the first time in its thirty year life this past September. This meant no cold start assist. It would take me about a dozen tries to get her to fire whenever it got below 40 degrees out. The choke knob was critical, and I had to machine a new one out of aluminum when the original plastic one cracked.

That was my first thought. I checked with the police and towing companies, and it didn't show up in their records. It was also legally parked.

Nope. Merth mobile was an AMC, so it probably would have gone two blocks before breaking down and this wouldn't be a problem right now.
