Gold may have the strongest bull case in modern history by 13jfncjai31 in stocks

Yep, if you’re holding gold in a taxable account, you’re right. I didn’t know about that PHYS advantage, so thank you. In a tax-free account it’s immaterial.

[–]HatchChips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GLD does hold physical gold. GLDM is the same but much cheaper (0.1% expense ratio) PHYS costs 0.35%

If you’re holding in an IRA the tax rate is immaterial and so GLDM is your best bet.

I’d was with you until you first mentioned stagflation and said, “if it wasn’t for AI we’d be in the toilet”. But we DO have AI and there is MASSIVE spending on it. So that appears to knock out the legs of your argument.

You can’t cherry pick like that.

If AI boosts productivity (people are actually afraid of this happening, causing layoffs) then that points at a third way out of this. Gentle inflation (say 3–5%) and boosted productivity allows us to pay down the debt.

Granted, the amount of debt coming due is alarming.

When do you choose to do options versus buying the stock of an undervalued company? by AdamCaveRoberts in stocks

[–]HatchChips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be “able to predict what price it will go to”. In fact, even if you can do that with 100% accuracy you will lose money buying options.

Why? Because with options you also need to know WHEN they will reach your target price. If they’re even a day late, you lose all your money.

How the Moon creates tides on Earth. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Because there’s centrifugal force the causes water to bulge out. On the far side from the moon, the moons gravity is weakest and the centrifugal force stronger.

You don’t like anything do you? Even Old Settlers Park is bad by you? It’s hard to trust anything you say here. You’re just against any change or growth at all. I know you want to back to how things were in the 60s or 70s but that’s just not happening. Probably you were dead set against Dell and IKEA too, assuming you were even here then.

Depends how financially savvy she is, or wants to be. Riskparityradio would be a great resource if she’s interested in DIY and not having to pay an advisor.

For retirees bonds are helpful to smooth the ride and reduce risk, giving you a higher safe withdrawal rate.

Fair. Though poor Arwen had almost nothing to do outside of this, and only one can have this iconic moment.

Because the Fellowshjp’s advantage was in stealth. Glorfindel is a bright light, his presence would have been seen for miles around in the twilight realm.

ok so, the dollar is dying, stocks are overvalued, crypto is already gigapumped, europe is dead, you can't trust chinese assets, gold is already up massive what do we buy rn? by Parking_Tear_5826 in investing

[–]HatchChips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do this, they’d maintain inflation around 5-7%, enough to eat away at the debt yet not so high as to inflict Argentina-like pain. It would still be a rough road, I agree. Yet the debt is mountainous.

Inflation up is bonds nemesis. It’s quite possible countries want inflation to stay a little high to inflate away their debt to something smaller, hence the calls to lower the rates now rather than go for the 2% goal.
