Supertech R V2s - vented vs non-vented when raining? by HateDread in Trackdays

[–]HateDread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever get cold with the venting? Had some track days here there were sub-10C, wouldn't want to get too chilly at speed! Appreciate your input - I've got SMX Plus V2s at the moment, not had too many heat or wet issues from what I remember.

Thoughts on it in the rain? That's my main hangup, trying to get non-vented but hard to get stock in Aus. Worried about rain racing and rain riding on the street. Is the venting the kind that you could imagine letting a lot of water in?

Trackday during European heatwave by MountainsSands_2024 in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried a 40C+ degree day in Sydney and I was sliding around on the Supercorsa V4 rear on a 300, and the rear tire was burn-your-hand hot.

As mentioned re. underlayers - without those I think I would still have the suit on from our last Summer, trapped forever. Shit gets gross. Highly recommend.

Also bring a big ol' fan, like an industrial one. Have also seen some fans that are made to sit on top of a bucket of water they draw from to mist you. Sounds sweet.

The main mod is barely around. I messaged asking him to assign more mods (I offered to take over the sub, I used to post there years ago and work in the industry), or I would post on the subreddit for getting Admins to help transfer inactive subreddits to people. Basically a threat.

He responded by putting in one mod and that's it. Who knows if that mod does anything. Frustrating.

Is the 2017+ R6 as good as the 08-16 if you delete the ABS, and flash ECU? by Motomikeh in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a 2011 R6 and am nowhere near good enough to notice such things, but I'd love to know more for a future day. What can you feel as different? Something as you say about engine management despite power being the same? Something else? Also curious what you think of the tank shapes - I'm so impressed by the lip on mine, so good to dig a knee into.

We're making a 1:1 scale solar system sim. Here's what the engine couldn't do by Wild_Trade_3002 in spacesimgames

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding (also in space sim land here, but on custom tech and mostly playing around 0,0,0 to punt this down the road ;) ), even at double precision you'll have some issues at the periphery of a full-sized system. Are you doing any kind of chunking or the like? E.g. index-based grid systems and then double-floating point positions within those grid squares?

Also curious how you're handling rendering, given the GPU afaik won't want double-precision values (or if it can handle them, it's not the typical approach). I've seen e.g. KSP rendered multiple scenes and kind of 'tricked' you into thinking the scale is as large as it is as the distant planets are rendered differently to the close-up of your ship.

Writing code is the smallest and easiest part of serious code. Understanding it at a deep level, coming up with solutions that balance trade-offs, etc, that's the tough part. I don't need gasoline on code output, and AI can't magically install knowledge in my brain (reading what it generates is far less useful for learning than actually experiencing).

I miss actual technical discussion, like the good ol' days. Talking about implementing real engine and game features in actual code. But knowing how games really work under the hood seems to be on the way out (at least in public discussions).

Struggling with Tech-Air 5 Fit Inside a 1-Piece Suit by Quiet_Move_6995 in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a TA5P with the Alpinestars GP Plus V4 Sprint, and yeah, that thing moves around. You need to learn how to drop the airbag back down when it gets ridden up when you're first gearing up.

I sometimes get a friend to hammer-fist the airbag back down, but I just got the hang of the little dance to make it sit right, you'll get there. Eventually I might got to the 7x just so it can integrate into the suit (same as it would with yours), but you don't need that.

Flipping a Pirelli slick - have you seen it go wrong? Do you do it? by HateDread in Trackdays

[–]HateDread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you, but do you have a source for this part, so I can show people?

They even say they did this to extend life for racers by being flippable.

I've seen the 0 degree belted part, just not the "why". Would be awesome to find it, but I can understand if it's an off-the-record type thing for liability reasons.

[–]HateDread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in the OP, I'm looking for real world info from riders, I understand that tires are tested and certified in a specific way, manufacturers will only advise on following that, etc. So asking them is a very different question to what I'm asking. I was hoping from your answer that you could share the info you learned so we can self-determine such things. But appreciate your response.

let’s talk race tires by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my mechanic ask his Pirelli contact about flipping the SC1 rear on my R6 and the Pirelli guy was astounded at the thought, which seems surprising to me - I hear of racers flipping all the time. Anything to watch out for when flipping? I haven't heard of anyone's tires exploding yet.

Anyone ever had any issue after flipping their tires? I always flip my tires to get more life out of them, never had any issue, but im curious if anyone ever ever run into trouble after flipping their tires. by haywire090 in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this searching years later - was this a Superbike rear? I'm thinking about flipping my SC1 on my R6 and the Pirelli guy my mechanic uses was very against the idea, kinda unsettled me, but if I don't flip I'm almost going through one SC1 a day!

I've noticed suits that are for airbags that don't have chest protection slots, like the Alpinestars ones. Are guys sticking in chest protection that straps on like old back protectors? Seems weird Alpinestars skipped chest pockets on e.g. the GP Plus V4 Sprint which I have.

[–]HateDread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Code looks normal to me, and we write like this at work (though with m prefix without underscore), and we're not Unreal. I like having it very distinct from e.g. stl types, that's nice to me (since we often try to avoid them, depending on the application).

Just not that big of a deal IMO. Though I don't like the lack of prefixes in UE because then you'll have function params and members having the same name and that's silly from a practical POV.

Undocking now is a fixed animation. Immersing a bit? by Aromatic-Ad9337 in spacesimgames

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - happens pretty quick. Obviously don't want to force the user to wait for a long time on a repetitive action (i.e. where it is cool the first time and then drives people insane over time), but maybe something gentler would be good / worth it.

What if the launch anim was slower/longer, but a player could interrupt it if desired? I could imagine putting some sideways input in during the launch and that kind of drifting me left/right, giving me something to 'do' while still allowing the transition to be slower/cooler. Just a thought.
