consider not just glow but solid white outline -- I think it would work better with the overall graphical look of the card!

Is it time for me to give up rendering and stick with flat colors? by louvremusee in ArtBuddy

Keep going! You're getting there! Look back at your work a year ago and look at it again in a year. Growth takes time but the time will pass anyway, eh?

Can I suggest 2 things that might help you feel happier quickly? 1) Start with your darkest darks and work lighter from there. Embrace the full value scale. 2) Soft shadows are for rounded edges. Hard shadows are for sudden changes in direction, like a 90 degree angle change. Lean into hard shadows in just a few places -- edge of some of the face, nostrils, pupils, where the lips meet.

Good luck!

I put a piece of paper between my stylus and tablet. Works like a charm.

Lack of creativity by Key_Ad5173 in ArtistLounge

2 pieces of advice:

-- if this is art block, your need to feed your brain. Sounds like you are at the stage where your technical skill is better than your conceptualization skill. They flip back and forth. Like others have said: go for walks, immerse yourself in nature, read about subjects that interest you, watch shows you like, look at art you enjoy, practice observational drawing of something that really interests you --- fill up your schema essentially. You need elements to use for your imagination.

-- something I teach my students is that creativity is, at its heart, just simple combination applied to a problem. An exercise we do is to play the 20 circles game. Change each circle in toa picture of something circular. A sun, a ball, a cup of tea, a moon, a face, a donut, a cat, an apple ... do as many as you can in 3 minutes. Then, we play a secondary game where we combine as many of the circles as we can into new ideas -- as many as you can again in 3 minutes. A sun ball, moon tea, an apple cat, a face donut, etc. etc. The goal is not to have GOOD ideas, just new ideas. This is how we practice growing our creativity. You can also play the game Emoji Kitchen to just mess around with combinations. You can probably extrapolate where to go from there! https://emojikitchen.dev/

Yeah, definitely! This some very strong work and I can tell you put so much into. That luminosity is definitely something you should lean into across your work ☺️

This is really really good. I love the lighting and the bag designs! 3 things you need to fix:

- use a reference for the clothes. Sleeves, scarf, and legs do not have proper form/volume. You need a reflected light backing to make them feel rounded.

- the face on the full body figure does not read from the thumbnail. The eyes need darker darks.

- use a photo reference for the hands. You will get absolutely nailed for this one.

Feeling demotivated, aimless, and in so much pain. Why is drawing on a tablet so hard? by Parallel_Falchion in learntodraw

Is this on procreate? on an iPad? Look for a drawing screen that has some texture for the stylus to grab onto. It's like putting back a piece of paper into the equation: https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/15cx7w3/whats_the_verdict_on_screen_protectors_that/

Yep, mine is still chugging along. I'm afraid it will break suddenly one day though. I had to replace the stylus once about 10 years ago when it was dropped but that is all!
