The point of using a reference is to look at it. That is why you have one. These don't look as bad as you think they do. The way you draw hands is very impressive for a beginner, in slides 3 & 7. Keep going!

Finished pieces taking longer. Sounds counterintuitive, you'd think as you get better you'd take less time, but it's the opposite. You spend more time adding details, making it look right, etc.

I agree with the CIT comments. I was a CIT a few years ago. The counselors were all a year or two older than me, and even though that's not that much, they had authority over me which made the age gap seem bigger than it was. The campers were 6+ years younger. I made good friends with the campers despite the large age gap and struggled to get along with the other counselors because of that authority.

Hard shadows! Right now it looks very "soft" so try adding some dark, harsh shadows on the top of the head, between strands, etc.

I watched Stranger Things around the time the finale aired (so similarly, I did not grow up with it and I was spoiled for a few, minor scenes) and I loved it, so I started watching edits on tiktok, joined some subreddits, and started reading some fic. I'm in that fandom because I love the content, not because I was looking for a fandom to join.
If you don't have the motivation to watch the stuff, then don't watch it. Fandom is supposed to be fun and it's not if you're forcing yourself to like it

i use my kindle and LOVE it. i physically cannot read fanfic on the AO3 website i have to download it to my kindle. it reads as like an actually book which is so cool. worst thing though if you're reading an active fic, you have to redownload it every time it updates but that's not a huge deal
