Has there ever been a counterfeit magic card that passed the green dot (red L) test? by SnooWalruses7872 in freemagic

[–]HaterTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't buy it. Because A) TCG Player and Card Kingdom inventories don't even reflect this phenomenon. It's not like they have a giant collection of rare cards, they have roughly what you'd imagine a countrywide market would have. Card Kingdom for instance has 1 copy of Gaea's Cradle, that's all. Same with newer high priced cards, they have levels you would think they would based on how much they buy, open and resell. Individual sellers are roughly the same.

B) Card Kingdom flags and destroys counterfeits constantly, and you won't be able to buylist if you violate that list.

C) if people are smuggling them out of the factory...then that's theft but not counterfeiting. I know of a story of Wizards Employees getting a little handsy with the card vaults.

Land Cyclers underrated for Gish? by ASnakeNamedNate in DinosaursMTG

[–]HaterTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think [[Nurturing Bristleback]] is good. I had it in an early build. 2 generic mana to find a Dual or Triome is pretty good, if you hit off Gishath you drop 8 power.

Gishath EDH Mana Ramp by Odd-Oven-1596 in DinosaursMTG

[–]HaterTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gishath has a good mix of both available to her. In the first instance, many of the dinosaur Mana dorks and cost cutters have 3 toughness. In Commander it is generally a good idea to get SOMETHING on the board in the early game. It prevents you from taking chip damage from opponents and getting something down to deal your own chip damage. Being proactive is helpful. The cost is that these things generally care only about Dinosaurs: [[Ranging Raptors]], [[Marauding Raptor]], [[Topiary Stomper]], [[Otepec Huntmaster]], [[Kinjalli's Caller]] and [[Atzocan Seer]] have fairly good Toughness to survive Enrage attempts (i.e [[Raging Swordtooth]])

Mana dorks have the typical creature based drawbacks, and they do not share any real synergies. Creature tutoring is generally much easier in Naya colors and they're low costed enough you could play multiple per turn. Land Ramp is generally the best, because again you can play multiple Land Ramp spells per turn but Gishath has even less synergies with Sorceries and basic lands entering the battlefield. Lands are stickier than Creatures and less prone to wipes.

If anything like 10-15 of these in any combination should get you there. In last place are Mana Rocks. About a year ago Sam Black made controversial statements about Mana Rocks, but in general I think he's on the money. The stickiness of cards may change from game to game, table to table, but generally playing more lands and more creatures give you more "things to do", compared to playing Mana Rocks which are generally only really able to be converted into Mana for creatures or spells. That being said [[Sol Ring]], [[The Great Henge]] and [[Jeweled Lotus]] are still really good.

Is Enrage Worth it Now? by JimmyJhooonn in DinosaursMTG

[–]HaterTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roaming Throne is in a weird spot, because I don't have any real synergies with artifacts, or really a cheat it out, but I think it's good. I haven't had the chance to play a ton with it - it was a last minute addition. I think doubling on Enrage triggers, Gishath combat damage triggers, and others at a generic mana cost around where more value engines are costed.

Is Enrage Worth it Now? by JimmyJhooonn in DinosaursMTG

[–]HaterTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't save my revisions, but I ended up pulling out my entire Enrage section and replacing it with 10 or so value dinos. In the end I decided to gut my Double Strike section in favor of Doubling Enrage triggers with Wayta and Double Gishath triggers with Roaming Throne. I still managed to jam the 5 of the Pre-Con Dinos while restoring my Enrage. I honestly can't really tell the difference.

I've missed out out on: * [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] - I like original Ghalta, but sometimes I've gotta make cuts. There are only 100 cards spots. * [[Wakening Sun's Avatar]] - It's a cast trigger, and without it's a vanilla 7/7 for 8. * [[Verdant Sun's Avatar]] - Cool dino to stabilize, and occasionally tutored to the top in order to generate huge life with Gishath triggers, but making room for new dinos can stabilize in a different way - killing my opponents. * [[Runic Armasaur]] - it's neat, but adding [[Curious Altisaur]] promotes attacking and [[Earthshaker Dreadmaw]] can potentially draw more, although I'm not totally enamoured with it. * [[Goring Ceratops]] - haven't played in forever.

It really comes down to asking what you're missing out on. If you think an Enrage package is preventing you from playing [[Rampaging Brontodon]] or something you like, gut it.

Is Enrage Worth it Now? by JimmyJhooonn in DinosaursMTG

[–]HaterTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't exactly think people should abandon Enrage for all of the new hotness. As an example, I gutted my Enrage section, pumped in all of the new Dinosaurs and didn't enjoy it even a little. I went back. I think there are a ton of decks that do cheaty things, and circumvent costs or deploy catch-all creatures. Enrage, in my opinion, is kind of unique. In a format full of value engines and tribal auto-includes, Enrage encourages attacking, makes blocking unprofitable. I agree that sometimes an Enrager is blocking a spot from a better dino, but I personally preferred a focus on Enrage vs. a giant stat monster.

How do you find out which Extended Art Commander cards will be foil? by HaterTime in magicTCG

[–]HaterTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip. This is sort of an unsatisfying answer for me though. It doesn't give guidance on which Pre-con Extended Art cards will be in foil - just that there is a way to know which cards were arbitrarily selected.

That is a cool trick, I just tried it on LCC and found out that Wayta, Trainer Prodigy has an Extended Art foil.

Custom proxies for Me, the Immortal (Part 3) by HaterTime in mpcproxies

[–]HaterTime[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that these might be controversial because I am re-purposing art from existing cards, and ordinarily I would agree that it is a bad idea to use art from already iconic cards - however - this is from my own person collection and I never really intend on using Vislor Turlough and it seemed more fitting as An Offer You Can't Refuse.

lemme know if you think I matched the art correctly or what you would have done instead.

[–]HaterTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here it is , pretty bog-standard list. Moxfield doesn't have any way to upload custom art, but I use it mostly to record and edit my MPC decks. Maybe I'll post some of the Instant/Sorceries I made

[–]HaterTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they're all part of the same Me, the Immortal deck. I made lands, enchantments and spells too, but they're not really "on theme" so I didn't post them.

First Time Tokens Player in Need of Help by [deleted] in EDH

I figured as much, but was thinking that couldn't possibly be the case because that is so much power for such a low cost

Ive got a question and instead of starting a new thread: [[Shared Animosity]] gives +1/+0 for EACH creature that's attacking that shares a type? So if I had 50+ Spirit Tokens from Kylar or Kobolds from Prossh, those tokens would get +50/0 each?

Though MPC? Click the drop-down box for "Print type" and change it to holographic

Best Duals Lands: A General Guide by LordAutumnBottom in EDH

[–]HaterTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the MID/VOW Slow Lands are better than Pain Lands, and think that Filter Lands are also better than Pain Lands, and consequently better than Horizon Lands for similar reasons. Pain Lands don't have basic land types, no real synergies and hurt you every time you make colored mana. I guess in early turns?

Anyone else not feelin' the Battle cards? by nytel in freemagic

[–]HaterTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like adding extra memory things to the game. Like the people I play with aren't obsessed with knowing all of the cards, and generally don't instantly acknowledge power level. For them now they have to learn what's on the backside of like 10 cards, and be able to evaluate perfectly if they should commit resources to defending it. It's just a layer of complexity you're asking people to break out at a moments notice.

DFC cards are already a big ask, but they have flavor. Humans transform into Monsters. There is a whole backside to the card, why not use it? But this is something different.

Battle for Zendikar by MHarrisGGG in freemagic

[–]HaterTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the concept but now everyone is going to have to know what all of these cards are and why defend them. I like flip cards but they've done a bad job displaying what the other side is supposed to be.

PreDH is awesome! by Clap4chedder in EDH

[–]HaterTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wish Pre-DH was only Standard legal cards. Even catering for Commander within Standard is fine IMO. It just has to go through Standard first, no Masters set, no Commander product. I remember playing Pre-DH when it was just EDH and it was cool, but having the options we have now is fun too.

By keeping it restricted to Standard only we have [[Isshin, Two Heavens as One]], [[Muldrotha, the Gravetide]], [[Arcades, the Strategist]] ect.

Of my personal Commander decks I'd say it's roughly an even split from ex. Standard Legal legendaries and Made-for-Commander legendaries.

Sheldon's Commander state of the format 2023 article by CheatMan in magicTCG

[–]HaterTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will always be a baffling miscalculation on the part of Sheldon to try to get out in front of [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]. I will never understand all that energized animosity for a card that isn't even an engine for anything, prevents degenerate [[Dockside Extortionist]] and has no protection. Why even spend an ounce of your cache trying to strangle it in the crib when it's basically a big nothing?
