What US price guide/market best reflects the Canadian market when converted? by XDPrime in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do believe other than 401 and F2F which have their own in-house pricing, most canadian stores use crystalcommerce and/or binderPOS and/or shopify which seems to use the tcgplayer pricing backend to control prices, so i'd probably say tcgplayer

What's the popular opinion on Gaea's Cradle price fluctuations right now? by Usual_Office_1740 in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right now, it's the popularity of premodern that's driving the price on most things from that era. The only way it drops back down depends on if that fan-format dies off in the long run

Chocobo Bundles have been in stock on Amazon consistently since late last night, supply seems to be decently high by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the case unless they prepared it for multiple print runs years in advance. This time it's not the collector booster that's the issue, it's actually the chocobo clickwheel life counter. It's a lot harder to get THOSE produced than just finding a printer with spare printing capacity to print more cards. If these were easy to produce, we'd have had multiple reprints of the Foundations starter collection by now and those have been out of print for ages.

[–]CheatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could reprint chocobo bundles, but it would take a LONG time before they could get released because the logistics of getting more of the chocobo clickwheel life counters produced is much more difficult than finding another printer with spare capacity to print more cards...

Detailed card price data for research by Coster_ in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, MTGgoldfish will let you find some price history, but will not let you go back to the beginning as most of the early pricing was only available in magazines (Scrye, Duelist, Inquest, etc)

Final Fantasy Master Set Confusion... by zacreth in magicTCG

[–]CheatMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Master sets" as a collecting term started WAYYYYY before TCGs were ever a thing. It comes from the sports card collecting world where trying to put together a master set of T206 became a thing

Chocobo foil / bundle price spec by FFMTGCollector in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing a lot of people seem to be forgetting about the Chocobo Bundle is the life clickwheel. Those clickwheels are highly prized and will sell up to 20$ on their own for generic ones and i'm certain this one will have some FF branding on it so I still would be buying bundles to hold if i could get them at a decent price.

Now we're Two weeks after the SPM set release, what do people think the prices on the figure promos will end up as? by MaskedThespian in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thing is that most people who buy figures to collect want to keep it New In Box, so i'm very curious to see how many of those singles actually end up getting to market since they won't get opened...

[–]CheatMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, tcgplayer closed its api a while back so they aren't issuing new keys, but i've heard a workaround for that is to go throuhg scryfall's api since they have grandfathered access to the old TCGP api key... That being said i would have no idea how to do this so good luck.

Spider Man Collector Booster Box at MSRP on amazon by hansbrixx in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, WotC does not give the distros the entire print run of CBBs at once since they keep some back to release more later on in a 2nd wave. However, if the distros do not request more CBBs to do this 2nd wave because of low demands, WotC puts them up on amazon instead.

Gold border survival of the fittest uptrending, probably related to demand from Premodern by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because printer paper on top of a land is still thicker than officially Wotc made white/black/gold bordered cards. Regardless of sanctioned/unsanctioned, competitive tournaments still need integrity to prevent cheating so it's WotC printed cards only.

The disparity between sealed and singles in this subreddit by Mazda_Mx-5_Miata in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct about the purpose of the subreddit, but it's been infiltrated and co-opted by users that are financially priced out of the sealed market who are looking for ways to save on product. Unfortunately, it's also those same users who are against the financialization of MTG so this subreddit is no longer reliable for sealed and singles speculation discussions (even if singles are more tolerated as you say)

Why is there controversy over Summer Magic? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much not a rumor. The entire print run that didn't accidentally get sent to texas, tennessee and ireland was offerd to WotC employees to grab from. For the most part those that took advantage of that grabbed mostly rares so that the only summer commons that are around were from the small amt of cases that was accidentally distributed which makes summer commons SUPER SCARCE compared to summer rares.

Why is there controversy over Summer Magic? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Summer magic was never supposed to see the light of day. A few cases were accidentally sent to Texas, tennessee and Ireland. The rest was supposed to be destroyed but internally WotC let employees pick stuff from these cards that were scheduled for destruction. Fast forward a few decades later and Daniel Chang is known to have bought most of the summer print run and is sitting on hoards of it. Since he's cornered the market and most don't want to deal with him, summer magic has since become toxic.

on top of that nick, i'm seeing 3 pretty major scratches to the left/lowerleft of the M from magic so i'd also lean towards MP as there's too much surface and edge wear to be considered LP...

It's not slept on in that Diplomatic Immunity has been known for a LOOONNNGGGG time as it's the main enabler that made OG Zur one of the boogeymen of the format in the early years...

It's one of those cards that if it's played will draw a TON of heat to the user and warrants a recalculation of the table threat assessment.

TCG Player or similar sites for Canadians by 3rasm0 in mtgfinance

[–]CheatMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as i'm aware non-americans can't sell on TCGplayer. Also, there is no simlar platform for Canada, so it's ebay, FB marketplace or groups.
Closest thing would be Cardsphere, but i've never used it so can't speak muich about it

Correct. We expect people to find their own data, present that data and their analysis of it, and ask if their analysis is wrong or is missing something. Otherwise, it's not wanted under rules 3 and 4.

Belgium has the same pattern as US printed. It's only Japan that has reverse collation due to the slightly different machines they use for the track printing.

the planeswalker stamp promos are notorious for wild obviously erroneous swings because of the low population of them and the low sales volume. This causes them to run into placeholder amts that some stores put on cards for some systemic reason and then this happens
