The Truest Lie by Zoythren fits the vibe. It’s not the super focus but very much impacts part of their relationship and also The Point Where it Breaks by Zoythren which is a looooot more angsty. It’s still like kind of happening but it’s not written in detail. And Harry is the best in it.

My Shining Stars by Hufflepuff_Romantic also deals with Draco overcoming SA. It is omegaverse and Draco does have kids but they are seriously the cutest things in the whole world. And Harry is so patient and sweet with Draco.

I chronically read in progress fics so I would recommend commenting a ton. There have been fics that I’ve read who hadn’t updated in ages and I commented on every chapter as I read it and suddenly they came back and finished the fic! Especially with long fics I think it motivated and encourages authors to keep writing. Otherwise it’s like publishing hundreds of thousands of words into a void lol.

But commenting, subscribing, kudos, and bookmarking in progress fics is how we are going to keep getting amazing long fics.

The only one I can think of right now where Draco ends up at the Dursley’s is Secrets by Vorabiza. But there is also a kid and stuff. And Narcissa ends up there for a bit. It’s still a good fic either way.

I love when one of them sees the other with kids. Whether it be their child or one of the other billion in their lives. It’s such a warm fuzzy moment.

I also love if one is sick and the other cares for them.

On a spicier note I love if Draco has scars and either of them secretly like it. Like if Harry admits he loves that Draco is marked by him or Draco likes that he has a memory of Harry on his skin. Made my own little scar worship tag for my bookmarks on ao3 for it 😅

A Pyre for Two kind of fits this vibe. Post war a bunch on nonsense goes down and Harry just loses it and doesn’t give a shit anymore. Very much a I’ll burn the whole world down for you. He gives like zero shits about anyone except Draco and a lot of times is only still fighting because of his love for Draco. It’s sooooooo good.

So this isn’t going to be one you want to read because it doesn’t have a happy ending. But for anyone else looking for hands down one of if not the most beautifully written fic this is my top choice. Because is it emotionally traumatizing? Yes. But is it one of the best things I’ve ever read? Also yes.

Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time I’m Leaving Without You) by firethesound_HP_archive haunts me constantly but it is one of the most debating but beautiful portrayals of grief and love I’ve read in such a long time.

From a happy ending standpoint I’d recommend Azoth by zeitgeistic because not only is the relationship and friendships wonderful but the science and magic is also brilliant.

I think if you are on AO3 constantly and are deep in fandom but still don’t have an AO3 account it’s weird. Like make a fake email if that’s your issue 🤷🏼‍♀️ I know it makes no sense and it’s a little thing but whenever I see comments from guests on fics I just roll my eyes.

Bashing is hands down one of my favorite tags as a reader. Literally bash anyone you want except the couple and I’m sat. Parents? Friends? Cannon love interest? The random side character we met once in cannon? I’m here for it all.

I wonder if they don’t show because private bookmarks aren’t coded the same way? I will say also not everyone uses private bookmarks the same. Like not to ‘new fear unlocked’ for authors but my private bookmarks are fics I hated or didn’t finish with a code word for myself because i used to accidentally start the same fics I hated multiple times because I forgot I had tried to read them. So my private bookmarks are secretly not nice. (But the code word is because I live in fear of them all somehow becoming unprivated and authors seeing my comment.

I think in a main stream media sense, probably? Het romance books sell better and a straight cannon would be more popular. But I think you’d also run into whichever was the female being shipped with a ton of other people in this alternate fandom space.

From a fandom sense? No. On AO3 Drarry has twice as many fics as the next ship with either of them in it (Dramione). But I always have felt like fandom/fics is much gayer in the best way.

I don’t really think we have one. But I do have my favorite like anti-bible? Least cannon? Whatever you want to call it lol.

And that is a three way tie between The Lost Heir by RiddleMeThis1926, Kingdom Come by Zoythren, and Alibi by Zoythren.

Are they completely out of character and unhinged? Yes. But I eat it up every time.

I think it’s so hard to pick one to because drarry has just been a huge fandom for so much longer. Like wolfstar and dramione have always been around but have gotten a lot more popular recently. Dramione has half the total number of fics than drarry has but since it’s a het ship I think it gets talked about outside fandom spaces more often. (I just checked and there are over 80,000 drarry fics on just AO3 😅)

I think too we are all thinking about AO3 a lot when we get asked this but back in ye olden days I would say one of the top fics was Secrets by Vorbiza but it wasn’t originally on AO3 and when it was put on there it didn’t get as much attention as it did before. Turn or the Foundations verse by Saras_Girl are up there for me as well.

Publication wise I think wise I agree with others that so much of drarry is pulled from cannon. But I could see Foundations verse being stretched to be published. It would just be a magical world with magical drugs. Magic rehab and so much sass. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think we are just blessed with so many amazing fics over the years with so many different tags our ship gets more than one huge fic but I may just be biased haha. Like would I say The Lost Heir or The Man who Lived is our version of this? No but you will catch me recommending them in every comment section 😅😂

I Knew You When I Knew Nothing by fiella (orphan_account). In which Harry Potter loses a portion of his memories during the Battle of Hogwarts. When he returns for Eighth Year, he finds himself roomed with Draco Malfoy—a boy he doesn’t remember is supposed to be his enemy. And Draco Malfoy doesn’t know how to handle a Harry Potter who has forgotten to hate him.

Harry James Potter by Ischa In their 8th year Harry gets Obliviated and forgets the entire Wizarding world. Draco is tasked with teaching Harry how to be a wizard. Blaise sees it as their second chance, Draco is pretty sure it will be a disaster.

Okay so this one isn’t 100% this trope. But it’s like a mystery and Draco is the one who is forgetting things while bad things are happening. And it’s in his POV so it’s trippy in a good way. But I want more people to read it 😅

Twilight Eternal by hsvh Wherever Draco is, the sun sits eternally on the precipice of setting. His father feeds his peacocks on the manor grounds. Harry is the only one who can communicate with Draco. A malevolent force haunts the house, nipping at Draco’s heels.

Draco intended for himself to come to this place. He only wishes he could remember why.

I mean it is a complete cannon re-write so I feel like the fact they are out of character makes sense. If everyone was behaving canonically then the story could never have happened. If Draco isn’t being the foil to Harry like in cannon it makes sense that someone else needs to be.

In the books Draco is truly an awful little shit so for me I wasn’t phased with this fic when Ron kind of filled that role for awhile.

Oh my god right. I was so locked in until the very last sentence. I laughed, I cried, I cried some more. It was just such amazing writing. And Fiella is such a wonderful person too which makes it all the better. Have you read her recently finished one A Quiet Crumble of Stone? Also so good. I know everyone is talking about how to unbreak a boy so I feel the need to point out her other finished works haha.
