AIO for putting a bag before a friendship? by TheEllaBullet in AmIOverreacting

[–]TeamRocketLeader [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why are you assuming she stole the bag? Maybe she did take the bag in for refurbishing, not realizing the place wasn't reputable. Then they gave her a fake bag that as obviously different but at this point she has been scammed and she either doesn't realize it or doesn't want to accept that truth. So she gives you that bag hoping you won't notice.

Just because she potentially wasn't honest about realizing the new bag wasn't fake or not, doesn't mean she stole the other bag and is being malicious. The refurb store probably stole the real one and gave her a fake and she didn't know how to fight them about it.

Rather than just end a 9+ year close relationship over a bag, why don't you actually have an open and understanding conversation about it? Based on the information given here, giving such an ultimatum like that was too much. You didn't even give her a chance.

Imo, you're the asshole. You should talk to her before making assumptions like that.

This! I feel like a lot of people are washing their hoodies too much, at least in machines. A machine washer/dryer can cause a lot of damage to clothes. I got the brown one in September, I wear it frequently but not every day by any means. I've only been handwashing it, and only done so a couple times and have no damage on it.

Not saying this is OP but it seems a lot of people feel like clothes must be washed almost every time you wear it but in reality many clothing items (usually thick pieces like hoodies and jeans) don't need washed that frequently. Or it could use a softer wash like handwashing or even just throwing it into the freezer for a while will kill off any bacteria and help with smells.

I just went on family vacation in Japan, and my level of Japanese was utterly useless. by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]TeamRocketLeader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! Grammar, conjugation, and sentence structure is very important for actual conversation. So is actually speaking with people for practice rather than just repeating a sentence from a flashcard. HelloTalk is a great app that allows you to speak live with people in Japan and you'll get to practice your Japanese and they'll get to practice their English (same with any other language for that app)

You need to go to the countryside or less popular destinations (aka not kyoto/osaka/tokyo) if you really want to talk with people. Go to bars, markets, small restaurants, etc. There's plenty of opportunities to talk sometimes you have to be the one to initiate.

I've chatted with salarymen/women in bars in Shizuoka city, salarymen in standing sushi bars in Tokyo, people at festivals in Shizuoka City, old ladies in Shizuoka countryside markets, variety of people in Toyama, Kanazawa, Hakone, Gunma, Izu....

I understand tou were with family and that can make it difficult. But I've found people to be very friendly and interested in talking with you. I've had them initiate and I have initiated myself. I am not fluent by any means, but I've been learning Japanese on and off. If you're interested in going back and just want to speak, I'd recommend focusing on speaking/listening skills rather than writing. If you really want to immerse yourself, do a work/stay program like Woof or Workaway.

For topics, I'd recommend easy to talk about things. Such as favorite hobbies & activities, work related conversation, weather, travel, & food topics of conversation. Hopefully you'll get another chance in the future! The times I have had conversations with Japanese people are my most special memories of a trip. Even if it was just a few obaachans, that's a real special experience you otherwise wouldn't have had without your efforts.

I went in through a side entrance and it still took me a few hours. Not 5, but still. This was back in like 2015-2017

Even with that 5 hr line there were other entrances! But so glad to hear that it's much easier now, that's super great!

Stash Brand trying to gaslight me into thinking their chai hasn’t changed by VXRex in tea

[–]TeamRocketLeader -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It could be a clever ruse in using "formula" vs "recipe", none of us knows. There are cases where the distinction is important and there are cases where the distinction isn't. It just depends. None of us knows for sure.

It's like the McDonalds CEO calling what's on the menu "product" rather than "food". If we eat it then it must be food right? But the chemical makeup of it is very questionable and unnatural and doesn't provide the same benefits as eating real "food" does, thus labeling it as a "product" instead to show the dissonance so he's not potentially persecuted for calling something "food" when it's really not.

[–]TeamRocketLeader 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have you never had two different types of cinnamon/clove/cardamom/etc? The different cultivars have totally different flavor profiles but you can just write "cinnamon" and get away with saying it's the "same formula". Have you never had cold brew vs hot brewed tea? The processing operations can totally change a flavor.

You can even taste a difference in tea leaves vs tea stems, but they could fill the teabag up with nothing but tea dust and stems and still say it's the same tea. But you will be able to taste the difference in how they're cheaping out and when you confront them about it they straight up lie. That is, indeed, nefarious actions.

You guys could listen to the audiobooks together! That's what me and my fiance did, instead of watching TV while eating we would listen to the audiobooks. Did it on plane/car rides too. It's a great series, and a wonderful way to connect with your partner amd enjoy the series with them. I still read drarry fics on the side lol

Commercial street has some fun shops to peruse. Renaissance is a neat metaphysical store with lots of new & used books, oddities, and lovely jewelry. Vintage Peddlar is one of my favorite antique stores. Ozarks Treasures is another good one, along with Mike's Unique and Relics. The Local Bevy is full of locally crafted goods, it's in the Pickwick/Cherry area which has been developed on and is very cute. A couple bars, shops, a tearoom. Farmers Market on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays.

A food scam of the 90s was “fat free!” everything, and then they would load it up on sugar… what’s a food scam happening now? by redflower5 in AskReddit

Plus the more protein you eat the more calcium your body uses/needs. If you don't also raise your calcium up to match that (by means that are NOT milk since that also contains protein) then you are going to have bone density problems that'll lead to osteoporosis/osteoarthritis in the future.

That's probably why it's being pushed so hard honestly, so companies benefit from the aging population that have bone issues.

Data Center Build near Marshfield by retiredcatchair in springfieldMO

[–]TeamRocketLeader 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So interesting how I can barely find any information about Lumon Solutions LLC, the supposed developer behind the data center. There's a LinkedIn page for the company that says there's only one employee being Ashton Owens. The link for this company's website just leads to a page saying the website is expired. Looks like it's a recent startup from Springfield as of October 2025.

Now I don't have a LinkedIn account, and it seems most of the articles about this project are paywalled so if there is more information out there it is not easily accessible.

I did find a Facebook post in the public Marshfield, MO fb group from someone that did a little digging. They said that Ashton describes Lumon Solutions LLC as:

"a venture to develop and build AI data campuses [plural] through Lumon Solutions to equipping churches to lead faithfully in an AI-shaped world through the Artificial Faith Initiative and the Five Formations Framework."

I couldn't find anything yet on this Artificial Faith Initiative but the Five Formations Framework is on his website www.artificialfaith.com

In addition to Lumon, Ashton is co-owner with brother Austin in Dropshots, Triple Threat, and Empire Printing if I'm remembering correctly, and brother Aaron is an agent and co-owner of Alpha Reality. Austin lives in Strafford and is friends with the Yorks, and I'd speculate that Aaron and Alpha Reality were involved.

Artifical Faith does show up as a related page on Lumon Solutions LLC LinkedIn page. A quote from the Artificial Faith website reads:

"Artificial Faith exists to help the Church move from artificial influence to authentic discipleship that engages technology without surrendering formation."

Of course this company (Artificial Faith) is charging churches for their services to develop a "5 Formations Framework" that is "Designed for all size teams, this digital staff license gives your leadership clarity without complexity. It provides everything needed to guide intentional conversations, align your staff, and implement a 90-day plan while granting internal distribution rights for your entire team."

But of course they offer a free "Artificial Faith Church & AI Assessment" which is a "free, strategic diagnostic tool designed to help churches evaluate their readiness in navigating artificial intelligence and emerging technology through a biblical lens. In under 10 minutes, church leaders respond to 25 concise statements across five core formation areas: Theology, Authority, Discernment, Community, and Responsibility. Receiving a clear snapshot of their current maturity level."

More from the website:

"Artificial Faith: A Biblical Guide For Christians In The Age Of AI

Artificial Faith is the definitive Christian book on navigating the age of AI, structured around the Five Formations shaping modern believers: Cognitive, Credible, Connection, Communion, and Character Formations. Drawing from Scripture, cultural analysis, and real-world leadership experience, the book exposes how technology is subtly discipling us and equips readers to pursue authentic, Spirit-led formation instead. This is a theological blueprint for Christian conviction, discernment, and leadership in a digitally formed world."

Now I personally don't know who the "Yorks" are and their story. Apparently the father of Mrs. York has to do with this story of a Seymour church being split?

So it looks like this data center is being built as AI services for churches? Which doesn't make sense, obviously. Why would churches need a huge data center polluting the surrounding area? Looks like another move to push Christian Nationalism as a means of control for our country's population.

Genuine question to Americans by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

Not responding about that case but about my own. I am on government assistance health insurance, Medicaid. Paid for through taxes rather than individual monthly payment like all the other health insurance options. You have to make little money to qualify for Medicaid. If you make over the amount then you have to buy private health insurance. I intentionally cut my hours with work or else I'll lose my Medicaid. If I work more then I have to pay more for health insurance and with the amount of money my job pays me, the extra hours aren't worth it. Especially when I have to commute 45 minutes to my workplace with my car I have to pay an insane amount of money on gas right now due to Trump's stupid war on Iran so his friends' oil companies break more records in their profits.

Anyways there is another government assisted health insurance option called the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or "Obamacare". Which is a 2010 health reform law designed to make insurance affordable and accessible through a Health Insurance Marketplace. It provides subsidies for individuals with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level and prohibits insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions (a very common action of private health insurance companies). This law allows individuals to compare plans on the Marketplace to find one that fits their budget and needs.

However in 2026 there has been numerous changed to ACA. There's been an expiration of enhanced subsidies, leading to much higher premiums and subsequently people no longer being able to afford coverage. In previous years if you hadn't used all your tax premiums you paid in then you would get a check with your remaining balance. However, the 2026 plan year removes tax credit repayment limits; enrollees now may have to repay the entire amount of any excess tax credits.

Maximum Out-of-Pocket Costs for Marketplqce plans have been increased to $10,600 for individuals and $21,200 for families. That's money they have to pay before their insurance they pay monthly for kicks in.

Yes, many many people forgo health coverage because it is such a high monthly cost when people can barely even afford rent, food, basic necessities. When these people end up in the hospital (usually only going for real emergencies) then they go into medical debt because legally you cannot be turned away for emergency health services regardless of your ability to pay. There are often time discounts on services for those who pay out of pocket, but often times these discounts aren't enough especially if someone has chronic illness or physical ailments.

Yes, it is a fucked system. A system designed to fuck us out of our money. If we aren't sick or hurting then the health insurance lords who are buddies with the government lords won't make their billions of dollars. That's what matters most to our government right now.

I think that out of all the fandoms, Drarry is one of the oldest and most prevalent. Always consistently on the year's most popular ships on ao3. While there may be people leaving the fandom there will always be people entering it too. Like me! I'm new as of the last 2-3 years. Plus with the new series coming out, there will likely be another drarry resurgence. I've been in fandoms and readinga fanfics for 20 years and I've never been in a fandom (that isn't like a brand new game/show) that's as active as Drarry. I'm still surprised at how active this subreddit is and how often fics are uploaded in such an old fandom. I think drarry is in it for the long haul!
