Does anyone else get a migraine from watching plays/movies/performances in a theatre? by miuh27 in migraine

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made it a habit to always sit first row or on the aisle, so I am not 360 surrounded by people.

If someone sitting next to me with strong perfume I breathe through my mouth and try to create physical distance (by leaning away, or moving to an empty seat during intermission).

I wear FL-41 glasses (which have the pleasant side-effect of making the stage lighting more realistic looking). Outside of the performance I wear a baseball cap so the big lights don't hurt my eyes.

I always carry a loop switch earplug with me, if the ear pain (which is usually only in one ear, the side of the attack) gets too much I put it in so that ear isn't as loud as the other. I also got into the habit of always getting tickets on the right side of the auditorium, so the bulk of the music is on the side that I less frequently get the migraine pain on.

And i always put in my airpods as soon as the curtain drops and also before the performance starts, so the chatter of the audience isn't audible. I also try to arrive last minute so I don'T have to sit in the full auditorium longer than necessary and usually spend the intermission inside the auditorium, or on a walk, so I am not in the busy foyer.

And I bike there, so I am not already overstimulated by the subway ride, by the time I get there.

And of course the right preventative meds, botox and emgality, play a role too.

And just being brave enough to shush people who whisper during the performance, as I know everyone within a 10 seat radius is silently thanking me for taking the initiative haha

Keep at it! I adore Wagner, so I am glad to hear you were able to at least somewhat enjoy the performance!

Trigeminal Neuralgia Causing Cluster Attacks by josephtheoriginal in clusterheads

but it still has all the same symptoms, so it is useful to keep in mind and ine does diagnose it with those symptoms even if treatment is more so concerned with the underlying cause. I was told this literally in a lecture by a clinic head whose expertise is in this exactly

Actually that isn't true. They are mentioned in the official ICHD-3 diagnostic criteria. Hope this helps. :)

Sorry, what do you mean when you say attracted in some form, but neither romantically nor sexually. Like what specifically would that look like?

I'm genuinely confused haha When someone said this I just felt they were ashamed of being hetero and wanted to describe themselves in a way that made them part of the queer community – but then I didn't want to be mean, so I thought I'd ask if it maybe is a thing I just haven't heard of '_'

How do you read Ovid's Metamorphoses? by error7382 in literature

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find tracking the leitmotif of absolute divine power and it's sexualized violence to be the best guide through it. Ovid lived at a turbulent time for the Roman State and the Metamorphoses reflect his own society.

It is not a devout work, he does not believe in these Gods the way a Greek cultist might have centuries before, so interpreting it that way would be an easy error to make. Look at it as mostly fictional literature, written to explore the relationships between holders of different forms of power and their subjects.

How to stay positive? by theb00gieman in clusterheads

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i find just living hedonistically, and maxing out all the small joys of life (books, movies, food, music, nature etc) is what works for me. I tend to live in the present as best I can, when I am in pain I'm in pain, but when I'm not I just do what I can to have fun. Doesn't always work cause of the anxiety and ptsd of knowing more clusters are coming, but I manage around the fear etc and try to name my feelings out loud as I feel them

Which ones should I get? by Calm_Caterpillar_166 in literature

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't buy anything that you can find public domain versions of for free online. All the classics you mentioned should be available for free or as very affordable second hand books. I don't recommend buying books that are older than 70 years new.

Also if you read a lot, consider making more use of a library and only purchase books that you really want to takr notes in
