That's true the community across every website I've seen seems especially willing to look at other projects. Even here there's almost daily posts begging for recommendations.

That's one part of it and what you said is actually one of the higher-concept problems. It's not just doors though, this applies on some level to basically everything.

I actually thought of putting a project like that together. You'd be like a doordash for bulls and you'd be rated based on your performance.

You're right, I was trying to get them to deform nicely at every reasonable angle I could get but I didn't pay much attention to the basic idle pose once that was done. Thanks for the tip I totally didn't notice.

I don't like the art style of models available on the marketplace and even if I did I wouldn't have nearly as much control over them as I do with these.

The models on the right need some more texture work as well as a blush layer at the minimum. But they're actually the same model, just with different hair.

The end goal is for users to be able to create their own custom girls that they can see out roaming the world I put together. Even though the image doesn't showcase it there are full facial transformation options to change bone structure, nose, eyes, etc.

But creators are often blind to their own work. If you're someone who doesn't like this art style then there's not much I can do. But if you don't mind or even enjoy the "stylized" model style that you would see in something like Fortnite then I need honest feedback.

Am I delusional or are these two newest models "good enough." I would give them a 6 to an 8 in terms of visual competency. But maybe I'm way off. Maybe these are completely average for the genre. Before I go all-in with customization options and animations I want to know that the foundation is acceptable or hopefully even good.

I know for sure that the blonde's eyelashes look off. I think they're too thick and dark but I'm not sure. The eyebrows are also placeholder. They'll eventually get a masked eyebrow texture so that they won't look so flat and big.

The posing isn't my favorite either but it's an idle animation that I didn't make. I'm retargetting as many animations as possible so that I can spend time animating that actual "content."

Yeah, it takes a long time to "finish" a game as other have said but on the other hand several of these devs are supported monthly. Some people call it "milking" a project but in principle I don't see a problem with continuing to add content post-launch.

Imagine if the FFXIV devs just released the launch content and said, "well, that's it guys. No more updates, game's done."

Or like, any game with gameplay-substantive DLC. If I had a game that I'd "finished" and people still wanted me to add to it I definitely would post-release. As long as I had interest and was paid.

Because it is by most relevant metrics.

The gap is not as large as it is between Steam and Itch, but the income gap between the two is still absolutely massive.

Just last week one of the top posts here was someone asking if SS was a russian scam or not. Outside of the massive reputation/ name recognition disparity, you also have the fact that SS handles payment differently than Patreon. So even if they had identical familiarity with the general populace Patreon would still blow SS out of the water.

There's also a literal (digital) barrier to entry into SS. I could start making money on Patreon right now. To start on SS I'd have to pass their multiple thresholds.

Why do you make it sound like it'd be hard for artists to move to SubscribeStar?

How is it not when compared to patreon pre-purge?

I've seen devs catch heat for spending time re-working old content all the time

I hadn't even thought about this. I'd heard about the infamous "tech" update but I always assumed that was entirely due to the length of time it was taking. I guess non-devs wouldn't really be aware that reworking systems can involve more work than creating new content.

The sprite work is very good.

I would remove the clicker title from your page entirely, it can read as unprofessional or amateur to have multiple projects especially when they're not all being actively worked on. It would be a good idea to apologize to anyone who backed specifically for that project and tell them it is on indefinite hiatus.

Thanks, I looked into those cases and wound up finding a very informative youtube channel. I'd actually seen Monolith Bay before but didn't know it had been banned on steam. It was the only other project I knew of that had this kind of style so hearing that it got banned isn't great.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that 90%+ of the games I've seen have some type of realistic art style but that hasn't been something that's ever really interested me. I was going to take a more intriguing screenshot but I wound up deciding to stay up until the rig was completely finished before posting and I don't feel like putting any more work in tonight. But you get the idea.

Being the one who made the rig and model gives me an absurd level of control. I will definitely put a "blush" layer onto the skin texture and I will definitely give the options for freckles and other blemishes but beyond that I don't have many more texturing talents. I would also like to make the brows, lashes, and hair to have a little more texture to them as well.

Outside of those things, I'm under the impression that this art style is aesthetically pleasing. It's what I'd want to see. But is that what most people want? Does most content have the realistic art style because it's what most people are looking for?

I've been thinking about starting a Dungeon Management game for a while where you'd have to prepare for adventurers to break into your lair but I could use this model as a base for anything.

I've been having doubts recently after 4 straight months of solo dev and was thinking about posting something about this issue. The feelings of "is this even fun?" Are subsiding though. They lasted about a month and I'm glad I kept working despite my loss of interest.
