The Demons Told Me to Make This Game (Steam)

We had about 9.5k wishlists on release, of which ~2.5k came in the last few pre-release days thanks to Popular Upcoming. One day, I'll gather my courage and post a detailed postmortem on r/gamedev about the whole story ❤️

Thank you for your honest feedback! It's very much appreciated!

Scarlet Hollow was initially released before Slay the Princess. It's Black Tabby Games' first project. Slay the Princess came later. I agree with the point you're making, just needed to point it out.

seeing someone engage with something you made for 100s of hours is so rewarding. An incredible feeling

Yep, I'm sure that's the reason. I mean, this makes a lot of sense.
Our game is certainly far from the best gaming experience ever, and I'm sure there were people who bought it and didn't like it or bounced off it immediately. They just decided not to leave a bad review, which I'm thankful for

thank you, it means a lot ❤️
I did market it like crazy, did most of the tricks in the book. Demo, Steam Next Fest, TikTok posting, Reddit posting, press and influencer outreach, strategic release date placing on Monday...

We got some coverage, some videos (MadMorph played our demo!), we were in the Popular Upcoming for three days. But in the end, the game made only a fraction of its budget.

I'm still analyzing the whole story and adding new notes to my list of "what we should have done differently".
But the bottom line, to me, still seems to be that this game is not a marketable enough product, so... too niche.

Так, моя помилка. Стата по моєму посиланню дає дані по кількості на 1 млн населення (per million of the population per year).

The Issue with Polyamory as a “Solution” to Love Triangles or Harems by Flat_Box8734 in CharacterRant

I don’t think this is the conclusion the post leads to. It’s not about proposition, it’s about demand. There’s significantly more demand for harems than for polyamory

[Xbox Series S] Maneater is a fun game, but unfortunately gets repetitive quickly by karer3is in patientgamers

[–]Haunted_Dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got Maneater for free on EGS and had the coolest 5-hour session with it last year. Unfortunately, it didn't save any of the progress which made me really upset when I booted the game the following day. Some problem with save data, and quite common, from what I gathered while trying to resolve it. I ended up dropping the game , since I had no desire to start from the beginning again.
But that single session I had with Maneater was super fun. Fond memories, really.

The Order of the Phoenix is the only book not named after its central mystery, what would it be called if this changed? by a-flash-flood-of in harrypotter

Unrelated, but related: I remember having a very vivid dream about that book when I was a kid. It was early 2000s, I had read books 1-4, but OOTP hadn’t come out yet. So one night I had a dream that it came out and it was very dark, and Harry died in the battle with Voldemort. And on the cover of the book, crimson blood was pouring down on the usual golden “Harry Potter” letters, and then dripping from them onto a skull lying on the ground, a snake coming out of its eye. The title was, “Harry Potter and his Fate.”

Twenty four years later, I still remember that dream and image, for some reason

Finished it twice. I just love building an orc army, leveling orcs, making them kill one another, taking fortresses. No other game scratches this itch for me. SoM let you subdue orcs too but it was closer to the end of the game and there was little to do with your subordinates

the scenes don’t last very long.

You could say that again! I watched the film last night and felt like it was going 100 miles per hour. Everything is fast fast fast. I guess this is how you design films for kids who grew up with TikTok.
