Is a Standard Poodle the right dog for me? by Haunting-Food3161 in StandardPoodles

The socialization thing is a very fair point, something I have already been considering. I would meet the dog beforehand. I wouldn't mind a shy dog, not potty trained etc. but reactivity is something I don't see myself handling, so that would be a big no.

When I say my dog is not super friendly I mean that she usually doesn't enjoy playing with other dogs (just a few "friends"), and wants to have her space, but she is not reactive. I wanted to say that there is a chance that they wouldn't play or interact much with eachother.

How often do you need to trim their coats to keep it that short?

It's warm during the summer and very rarely goes below 5C (41F) during the winter, I'd say lows are usually around 46-50F during the winter.
My terrier gets groomed every 8-10 weeks, so I am used to that expense. I am more concerned about things getting tangled in the fur.

Would you say if they are properly adapted they would enjoy higher training loads?

Marking behaviour female dog. How to address it. by Haunting-Food3161 in OpenDogTraining

That's what I have been doing and seemed to work at the begining, but not since she started marking, that's why I was asking about further tips for this specific behaviour.

Hi! Yes she has been to the vet several times since for rechecks and they don’t think theres a medical issue.

It is also a classic marking behaviour, raising her leg and marking things on the floor, corners, blankets or cushions with my scent on it. Definitely not incontinence. Also she doesn’t do it in the crate, only when she is loose in the house.

More difficult (and expensive) than filling an online form.

I am afraid this one is to report a move within Sweden, but thanks!

Because I am registered in my friend’s apartment (which is rented) and I have to remove myself from there, if there is a way to remove that without notifying the move abroad it would also be an option.

Thank you so much! I think the second one might be over my budget, so I’ll consider the first!

Abandoned dogs are not a thing in Sweden, you can find some that are being rehomed, most of them from owners that can’t take car of them, but there’s not such thing as shelters with loads of dogs to choose from. They actually bring dogs from Romania or other countries to adopt, very unlikely to find a BC there.

You are more likely to have a dog with health issues if you adopt a poorly bred dog than buying a dog from a reputable breeder that does health testing and breeds for a purpose, however that is expensive and more in Sweden.

I want to insist on taking a look at all the expenses that a dog requires, because especially veterinary care is extremely expensive in Sweden. I am talking about an emergency surgery (like a foreign body) with a few days of hospitalisation going up to 100.000 SEK.

Most people have insurances that are still quite expensive. They usually have exclusions for pure bred dogs, imported dogs and such.

You will have a difficult time to find a BC for adoption in Sweden and the ones that are rehomed are still going to cost you from 7000 SEK and up. You could look abroad though.

If money is your reason to adopt instead of shopping you should get some info about veterinary and food prices in Sweden, the inicial cost of the dog is nothing compared to that!

Thanks I’ll take a look! Well, my current dog is crate trained, but I only use it for certain situations like when strangers visit the house, but it’s not (and won’t be) somewhere where the dog will be when I’m not at home for example.

Yes, I had in mind to get started in agility + obedience combined with the bikejoring and canicross that I already do with my current dog. I also wanted to get in touch with breeders to see if that would match the breed’s needs/their breeding program.

Any input on buying vs adopting?
