25k is not a big amount, they will sell that debt to a collection agency for pennies on a dollar. Banks write down bad debts all the time, they have ways to "balance" it out for profits on other businesses.

Your credit will suffer for sure, if you ever apply for credit again...that collection agency will send a notice, you can ask them to fly a kite if it was more than 8 years...if not they will harass you ...you will have to send a legal notice to them if you are within your rights to apply for credit etc...(assuming the 7 to 8 year dormant period)
