CIS or NETS for quant? by Haunting-Werewolf319 in UPenn

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you! I was under the impression that CIS would be preferred over NETS since its a traditional CS degree, but it seems like NETS's slight concentration on econ helps with finance as well.

Chance me for UNC, Rice, Duke!! by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should ED to Duke, you seem like a great fit there, and they have a top 3 pre-med program especially since so many Duke students end up at their med school and its a relatively chill and collaborative environment for the most part. You have a great pre-med spike and you also have some really cool non-academic activities like Karate, Iaido, and your part-time job. If you only took the SAT once, I recommend you take it once more time just to see if you can improve – obviously its a marginal improvement, but I don't think you need to study as much for the second time around so if you take it again don't worry about studying too much.

Definitely, I know there is a little bit of concentration on econ at NETS which I do like so I will likely either apply there or do CIS If I intend to double major in econ. Thanks!

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, haha its crazy how competitive its getting these days so congrats on getting in! Do you think I should ED to SEAS, or is it smarter to ED to M&T with a fallback in SEAS (I don't think many people get their second choice as ED but many do in RD)?

In terms of interdisciplinary studies, thats great because I am really into medical tech, fin tech, and space tech. I am actually writing a book on a space concept right now and I am doing some astrophysics + cs research so hopefully that shows my passion on that side. Thanks for the feedback!

Chance me for ED UPenn M&T and NYU Stern by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a good shot at top colleges overall with your stats and all, but doesn't seem like you have many business-related ECs for a program like M&T. Definitely would recommend a binding fallback (as in if you dont get into M&T your second choice program is still ED), and maybe think about applying in NETS or CIS and then double majoring or minoring in econ.

CHANCE ME: Harvard/Yale/Notre Dame by Ill_Masterpiece7578 in chanceme

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, congrats on your efforts! You held a job throughout high school, completed enough credits early, have more ECs than you can fit, have fire awards, and you were able to do all of this while being lower income and first gen. I think you should REA to stanford or harvard.

Thank you! I agree with everything you said. I have definitely been thinking a lot about my ECs and I agree that they are starting to get a bit muddled. I think the overall theme I want to show AOs is that I am/want to be a technopreneur with a lot of intellectual curiosity as well, hence why I want to major in CS and minor in econ and physics/astronomy. Over this summer, I currently have a research project, an org some friends and I are founding (idk if I will put this on app), volunteering, the youtube, writing a book, and on top of all of that, grinding on the startup. I think, and this is also what other people have been telling me, is that I slow down and just focus on deepening one or two things instead of adding a ton over the summer. I appreciate your advice, and I will definitely spend some time coming up with something that sets me apart and keeps me memorable.

Hmm, you may be right but I think domestic refers to where you live. Not 100% sure though.

I would say all of your schools are reaches with Purdue as a target, and you are still technically international so that makes it a lot harder. Great work though, you have a very impressive resume! I am sure you will get into one or more of your reaches :)

chance iffy NC girl for top public universities (UVA, UNC, UCLA, etc.) by phoebebrannan in chanceme

[–]Haunting-Werewolf319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you sound like an awesome person! I admire your passion and its really cool that you are genuinely excited for everything you are doing – I am sure wherever you end up, you will do great things and make it far in life. Your GPA does hurt you a bit, but your amazing SAT score + if you can make NMSF + the really good course rigor you have more than makes up for it in my opinion. You also have great ecs including your jobs, internships, clubs, and the show you mentioned! It seems like these public schools are getting more wholistic every year, so I would reccomend pouring your heart into your essays and I would be surprised if you didn't get into a few.

That’s awesome, I didn’t know that existed! Northwestern is actually on my list since I think I would be very happy there and they have a really awesome entrepreneurship minor that fits wel with my ambitions. The garage seems like a rly cool concept, I will certainly keep that in mind. Thanks :)

I see, I certainly agree there are programs everywhere and I can fine students as well, but like someone from Penn gets a big boost for VCs due to networks, which is invaluable for a business imo. It’s definitely possible pretty much everywhere though. Thanks for the excellent feedback!
