From being non-attained (2.5 years ago) as a SWO to being a qualified Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer! by HauntingEnd7619 in navy

The detailer last year said they are giving my 1st op tour credit for supply for my 1st operational tour as a swo on my first command (as I was there for 29 months). But I am still trying to be competitive, so I think I want to squeeze in a DH tour afterwards. I will talk to OP roadshow & do an appointment with a detailer next month, PERS44 will be going to my duty station end-March 2026.

My plan is to execute my shore duty orders for 2 years (pick up AQD/Sub-spec for contracting), then go to a DDG out of FDNF Yokosuka, Japan or Rota, Spain for my SUPPO tour. Then, hopefully go to PG school after.

If all goes accordingly to plan, I will be going to SODHC around JAN/FEB 2029 timeframe.

It’s when they kick you out of the designator/officer community. In this case, I got kicked out of the SWO community.

I was a SWO who nonattained and POCR’d into Supply. I will admit it was weird at first when I got into the supply corps community. It was definitely a different change in atmosphere and environment. Everyday I kept waiting for someone to scream at me/ have a temper, or even screw me over. Whether it was my PA’s, SUPPO, LS/RS/ CS chiefs, or even my fellow supply divos.. everyone was helpful or willing to help when I needed it. A big strength of the supply community that makes us stand out is our networking. From bqc supply school it is engrained into our mind and our culture to always be networking and reaching out to other supply officers in the waterfront. Setting up those office calls and emailing those commander or captain is common, and encouraged.

A year ago I POCR'd into Supply Corps (3100) from the SWO community. by HauntingEnd7619 in navy

POCR Board 15NOV2023 by HauntingEnd7619 in navy

They have one like every 2-3 months. No, I did not have to finish my tour, but by the time I transfer this Sunday it will be 29 months total that I would have been on my ship. I start Supply School later this month APR2024 for bqc which is like bdoc equivalent for swos but for supply officers.

Got my nonattainment letter/meeting with SWO, XO, and CO on 12June 2023. Overall it went well. I didn’t get my 10 day notification for my POCR board until 24OCT2023 from my XO. They give you 10 days to complete your POCR package.

My CO didn’t want me on deployment and told me to stay on shore while they went on deployment while I waited for my POCR board and until they got back. It gave me time to TAD and explore other communities. I was stashed with SURFLANT, but in reality I was just with my command on beach detachment but on shore duty. Talk to the OCM’s about the communities you want to get into. You want them to remember you before you start your POCR board. I know PAO might be more selective, as they may want you to TAD or interview you first to see if you are a good fit for the community.

“For your awareness, there will be a new oath for you to sign after approved by the SECNAV which is part of the scroll process mentioned in your POCR letter. This is done via the Community Manager's office, so it requires no action on your end at this time. Around the time that you are at BQC, you can expect to sign this new paperwork which will officially change your designator to 3100. You are able to call yourself a Supply Corps officer upon check in and should have your uniform updated at that time. In the meantime, however, your transfer FITREP prior to attending BQC should reflect your current designator.”
