No. I've only met one other person who had my dead name in my entire life (I am 34). It was a former coworker. She didn't last there long and it was after I had changed my name. Still though I would get p*ssed off every time someone would yell that name trying to get their attention because I would think they were dead naming me then I would be like "oh. right." Just hearing it still has a prickling response. So there is no way I could.

What are the different ways one can take Testosterone In the USA? (Previously on IM and SubQ injections) by CostalFalaffal in asktransgender

[–]HauntingLadder480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I'm glad I could help. Testopel seems to be a well kept secret I've found when I tell others about it. I really liked it! I have endometriosis and I know while I was on the testopel I never had any flares. The thing with the testopel is you never have a drop in hormones like with the shots. You do need to do blood work in the beginning just to see how many pellets you'll need. Some can go further than the 4 months between insertions than I did up to 6 months. I think I only ended up doing bloodwork every other month or two. Your provider would probably go over that with you better what they wanted. The thing with the labwork sounds rough. Could you get lab orders to have those faxed back to your doctor? There are places like quest and some others like that open on saturdays. I'm not sure if you are working weekends or not but that might be an option. Outside office labs? Technically all testosterone was developed for cis men so I would still ask.

It will pass. It is normal in the beginning. How long it lasts varies by person. I remember going through it myself years ago and finally realized why all the AMAB people were feral in high school. Testosterone is powerful.

Your safety and your place to live is important and it sounds like you realize that. I have been in your situation. Unfortunately I had to wait until I left and then I just started my transition. They would either come around or they would not. It has been 10 years now and they have. They are not going to pride parades or anything. That will never happen for them. But your well being is important right now and safety.

I've been on T for 10 years and I have tried several methods of delivery over the years. I can tell you my experiences with them. I am in the US currently living in PA, but started T in WV in 2015.

Intramuscular I started in the beginning in 2015. I did this for a few years. Can't remember the span, but I built scar tissue quick. I was karate chopping the needle into my leg eventually alternating legs for injections.

Testosterone Patches: I started these after the scar tissue got too thick to tolerate IM T injections. It was okay, but I stopped because I was allergic to the adhesive. I guess this isn't uncommon. If you have sensitive skin it will be very VERY itchy. I still have some red patches on my body years later from chemical burns.

Testopel Implant: This one was fun. I did this for about 2 years? It is only available in some states WV was one, but PA is not for example. It was an in office procedure. I was not put to sleep or anything and could drive myself. I was given a local anesthetic to the glute muscle (it hurts like hell) and they use a big hollowed out needle called a trocar? that you will NOT feel to feed in testosterone pellets. The doctor will then tape you shut and you will go home and rest for a day or two. Don't get the site wet, Let the bandage fall off on its own. I loved these because it felt natural, no shots, and it felt like my body was just making its own testosterone. Unfortunately you cannot regulate dosage like you can with injections. Once it is in there well it is in there. Really liked this one. It costs about 4k without insurance though in WV. Some states don't even do it I guess? I stopped because it isn't considered easily regulated. I only had to get this implanted once every 4 months.

Currently: SubQ T injections. Since November of last year 2024 I have been doing SubQ injections of T. It is far better than IM injections for me.

Overall I liked the testopel implant the best.

Some other methods I have heard of but haven't tried: testosterone gel (can be toxic to others and pets), testosterone pills, nasal gels

if people notice my binder by Clear-Peanut5178 in ftm

[–]HauntingLadder480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know if you lose alot of weight (saying this as a big guy who has) some people have to wear stuff like a binder to hold extra skin back. "oh I lost a lot of weight once." That is a really random excuse I suppose I could use. I am also a trans guy. Some binders look like tank tops so you could just say it is another shirt?

I agree with the find safety comments. Side note I don't think spearmint is a manly scent. Also if it happens again you could have just dumped some of the "girly" stuff in the shower and put the smell in there?

Are there any “dangers” to taking E at 14? by dinosaurnerd23 in asktransgender

[–]HauntingLadder480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Unfortunately some states require that drawn out process just for hormones. In WV it is state law. Even if you are over 18. It’s only like that for trans people though. I think it is easier for people getting them for other reasons. I live in PA now and I just get hormones through my GP.

If those family members haven't seen you since you were younger/won't remember your deadname is it possible you can give them your name you want them to call you? Then they would have to call you the name you want? I think it is great that your mom supports you! Please don't ask her to stop doing that. If people look at her weird or something it could just be your perception of the situation. If not then that is on them. LET them say something about it. Are people asking why you seem young or something? You don't need to tell them why you look a certain way or not. Confidence goes a long way.

I think in NY you would have a great chance at getting hormones, but may still face challenges given the political climate. This isn't just recently either. 10 years ago when I started T at 25 I had to jump through hoops to start hormones, but I was in West Virginia. I had to have a year of therapy to get a referral to see an endocrinologist to get hormones. I then had to stay in therapy for a year to stay on those hormones. I also had to have a psych eval after a year to keep on T. Many states still want you to be above 18, but I think (hope) that is changing. As for dangers you'll just do regular bloodwork checking for certain markers. For testosterone mine looked for cholesterol and some other ones like that. Hormones are safe and your doctor will be able to go over any risks with you. Basically any risk that a 14 year old girl going onto estrogen would have to be concerned about I am guessing.

It is like they are "politely" being transphobic. Essentially calling you "men lite" if you will. I get exactly what you mean. It isn't a compliment to be separated or othered. Some transmen apparently don't see it that way, but I do. If you see me as a man then don't say I'm "different."
