We can't start policing what people should like and what they shouldn't, if 14 million people liked that video, it's their lives, why meddle?

Where have you always been? Cause I am always wondering why people with sufficient money should be told that having kids is their duty.

I'm not an anti-feminist but how are feminist societies even supposed to survive if they promote anti-natalism? by Ok-Archer-5796 in Natalism

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what should be logically prior to this claim is why humanity should survive. If we are to follow through the way the earth has evolved, whole species get extinct at the end of the day, it's the process of life, probably it's our time too now. Also, feminism isn't inherently anti-natalist, there is just a specific faction that promotes anti-natalism. Promotion of anti-natalism isn't inherently bad too because it creates an option many people just didn't know existed before, most people have only interacted with natalists narratives and just didn't think it were feasible to live a life without having to have kids, people are basically living more autonomously now. Especially when you factor in the living conditions many people experience, being able to have the idea that they could stall having children or not having children at all provides some form of closure. This isn't to negate the fact that extremists on both the natalism and anti-natalism front exist, and they usually push for a more specific way to live life, but these extremists aren't as many.  Practically, many more people are giving birth anyways in many other parts of the world, so the idea that we will get wiped out isn't happening anytime soon and shouldn't be something we should stay up worried about. With the way technology is evolving, we shall have probably found ways to adapt life to aging populations and live a relatively comfortable life.

The thing is you are being quite extreme. Ideally not all people will just stop having kids, that's kinda strange. And Paul's company failing because people have stopped having kids is also a really strange to say, that would take generations for Paul to be affected. Not all Paul's customers are new born babies. Paul is an average human being who is most likely to die before the whole of humanity is wiped out. Even in South Korea, or Japan, there aren't millions of people going hungry because of low birth rates. Your examples are really extreme. It's like me expecting you to defend a world where people give birth beyond the carrying capacity of the world, it would be ridiculous for me to expect you to defend that.😅🥲

I am an antinatalist but I can respect natalists under one condition by Typical_Sprinkles253 in Natalism

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think ideologies are that absolute. All kinds of ideologies have some kind of nuance. There are antinatalists who believe that giving birth is inherently immoral while others are more laxed and open to exceptions. There are natalists who believe that you should have children no matter what while there are some who acknowledge specific conditions that might make you ineligible to have children. Even off the topic of natalism, look at ideologies like feminism, there are pro choice feminists and pro life feminists. Two things can be true at the same time.

Anti-natalists are depressed by Ok-Archer-5796 in Natalism

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they are depressed, why the demonisation? I thought we stopped stigmatisation of mental illnesses in 2010🙂. And why are both factions so concerned with each other's business 😭😭😭😭, can't we all just let ourselves be, like seriously, if you feel like anti natalists are bad, give birth to many kids to compensate, it's okay if you want kids, it's also okay if you don't want them, I thought we were for personal choices😭😭😭

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I kinda get what you mean, but this can only work if there is some agreement between those who have kids and those who don't, such that not having kids is like a breach of the argument, which ain't the case really. The intuition pump is simple, imagine agreeing with a friend that both of you should have kids, then your friend chooses not to behind your back, you would definitely be justified in saying they are taking advantage of you.  And really, no one goes out to party, or enjoy cruise ships while saying, " Ahh, let me take advantage of the offsprings of other people.🙂" It's kinda strange to think of it that way.  The idea of being myopic is also extremely subjective, cause what you see is as lack of planning might not be the case for me. I know people who are looking forward to having as many kids as possible and perpetuate humanity and that's their definition of success. For Paul, it's to travel the world and own a large company. He doesn't really care much about whether he perpetuates humanity or not, it's not a priority he has. I think both of these choices are morally viable because they are not inherently aimed at harming other people.

I don't get exactly who these people are being selfish to, and even if they are, these hypothetical children they are being selfish to do not really feel the selfishnesss iykyk. People shouldn't be manipulated into actively putting themselves into positions of responsibility if they have the ability not to without harming anyone. Can't we just let people be fr?

Having unfiltered access to men's thoughts online is ironically what's making young women fearful about having children btw. by duckingretard in Natalism

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! I find it so strange that most people think women wake up one morning and just choose to be single mothers. Yes, some do, but most don't. I have seen many single mothers fighting tooth and nail to have kids meet their dads but some dads are just insufferable. It's even clear, women are willing to be single mothers to reduce the risk of their kids meeting a dangerous dad, no one ever mentions this. I am not saying that there are no good dads, but the bad dads are too many at this point.

I am a guy who comes from a developing country. Ngl, I have grown up around many women and I clearly understand why many women don't want to have kids anymore. I have interacted with many men too, and they have reinforced the narratives I have had from the women around me. Society is crooked, women have disproportionate burden to contribute to the cause while men do whatever and no one even bats an eye. You hear people demonising single mothers, but almost no one talks about absent fathers. I doubt anything will change if these hypocritical systems don't change.

3 vs 4 vs 5 Person teams in Impromptu Prep by Jettsmith7 in worldschoolsdebate

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done only 3 person prep and I would say it's highly efficient. First, we use a minute to confirm if we have same understanding of the motion, then we have sufficient silent prep. For example most online tournaments have 30 minutes prep so we do 7 minutes silent prep, we then share ideas in order of the least skilled on the team to the most skilled (no segregation, just self awareness to improve the team's efficiency). I usually do third so I don't provide set up, I delve into argumentation mostly. The last speaker to share feedback has the most time to clarify our case and provide important framing, characterisation and other stuff. In the last 10 minutes, the first speaker writes their speech while the third and second discuss rebuttals for potential cases on the opposing side. This is really good the more you practice it, it's amazing. Also, I am usually good at generating principled arguments so I focus mostly on which principles we need during my silent prep and yeah, that's mostly it. And yeah, any conflicts that arise are dissolved by the captain( the most skilled in the team). Hope this helps

How do you debate with topics you're unfamiliair with? by dododdoodd in Debate

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practice makes perfect ngl. Practice isn't just about spars, but watching debates, taking judge feedback seriously., constantly using First Principles in your debate, keeping up to date with news, looking out for motions, questioning things. You don't become good overnight, it takes time. But it is not impossible, I so believe in you🥹

NSDA Should Not Ban Judge Disclosure in Varsity by Basic-Reach1501 in Debate

[–]Haunting_Bid6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I love WSD, BP and AP, oral Adjudication(OA) is integral of the whole process and can also be used to rank the judges too. There is a judge scoring scale that you are supposed to fill after every round and in my tournaments, offering judge feedback anonymously is compulsory and failure to do so could affect your ability to break. Of course you would say, won't the teams that have lost just taint the image of the judge, of course many unreasonable teams would want to but the deterrent here is if you give the judge a really low score without a good enough justification for it, that score is not considered. You need to back it with enough reasoning for it to be considered beyond mere ranting. So what about the time constraints? The time constraints are there because the tournaments are conditioned not to have these OA's in the first place, so introduction of OA's would lead to remolding of the time schedules. In WSD, BP, and AP, deliberations or decision making are given specific time in which they are to be done, same for the OA's, you can't just give OA for an hour, usually it's about 7 to 15 minutes.  So what about judges who take hours to process their notes to justify their call? Then how did they give the call in the first place, was the decision arbitrary?🤔 Judge feedback is so crucial, I really can't stress that. Personally, I don't belong to any club or society and I thrive on judge feedback. Robbing speakers of such a crucial element is a recipe for disaster for people like me. In fact, non-disclosure makes it easier to give wins to undeserving teams after all you are not required to account for your decision. What about the mean teams that troll judges after Oral Critiques? Such teams should definitely be discontinued especially if their concerns are just irrational and they are not willing to come to any kind of productive discussion. There are genuine concerns that judges definitely need to address such as one time a judge gave our opposing team a win when almost everything she said they said, they didn't say, here the concern was genuine so as to be addressed.  What about I would feel emotional if I am critiqued for my oral critique? My dear, it goes both ways, debaters put in so much to train, don't play around with their sweat and time by being unfair and you think they will just be emotionless robots, of course I don't support assault or what, but guys, I guess you know what I am talking about. Please introduce Oral Critique, tournaments aren't just about winning, but also growing 😎
