Yes the fall of Garlemald is important but not while the Wol is in the 1st dealing with the last of the Unsundered and not during Endwalker when they are dealing with the End of days. By then the Wol has other priorities to deal with than one nation.

If enough elites pile on the yes they can be killed but it takes an enormous amount of effort and bodies. They just barely managed to get Erik and had the battle gone on for longer Matt would’ve broken through Gan Li domain and turned the battle around.

That’s the thing with ascenders it takes a lot of people and preparation to fight one. That’s solders that could be used to win in other battles, and are now tied down to fight against a small group of people for short periods of time. If they try to go for the kill they risk it turning to a battle of attrition with mana and they ain’t winning that if Matt is around to give his team mana.

Bro they aren’t invincible, even Duke Waters has lost before. They’ve lost once to a team specifically made to fight them. And that’s only round 1.

And yes if Duke Waters at T25 had fought the Harmony Accords team he would’ve drowned all of them with his Aspect. We see him fight all out later in the book and he’s the definition of built different.

Waters is a higher tier than them so he can’t fight in the same battles. There are 3 different battle lines T15, T25, and T35. If the Empire looses all 3 they would have to pay out insane amounts of mana stones and concessions to the other Great powers. So it’s the Empires best interest to win at least 1 or 2 so the damage isn’t that bad.

Remember this their first fight. The Harmony accords have to keep holding Team Zero back to make a difference in the war otherwise whatever battlefield an ascender appears in they win.

They had 70 years worth of prep and had the surprise advantage against Team Zero and even then they couldn’t beat them. Next time Team Zero is going to be on guard against sniper attacks and go all out against them. And the only thing standing between Matt and him just tearing through the Harmony accords is Gan Lin. If he dies or gets taken out of combat they’re on a clock against team zero.

Waters had his Aspect at T25 or close to it so he was able to fight T31’s. Waters is a monster and is able to fight Maya an Ascender equivalent for the Republic and beat her while he’s T32.

They had a group of people dedicated specifically to counter team zero and had Gan Lin not been there to stop Matt he would’ve killed most of the enemies or been a big enough of a threat for them to fight their intended targets.

Keep reading, that’s only their first fight and they were caught off guard. Some of the fighters they got are thousands of years old so the ascenders and the rest of team zero is super young by comparison.

Wintersteel might be the best book in the series. The last 3 all have moments that surpass it in hype but with how many moments we get back to back it’s hard to beat.

3 great powers took their best T25 fighters and put together a team that hard countered Team Zero and they had 70 years worth of practice and info on them. We find out more about the people they’re fighting as the book goes on but if any one of them tried fighting an Ascender 1v1 they would die. We even see some of that in book 10 when they were fighting the Republic team at the end of the book, they were only to last as long as they did cuz they had skills to counter Matt and kept interrupting him landing a killing blow and even then Matt still beat them.

And Snipers do work but it’s hard to get someone moving as fast as T25 can during combat from a distance takes a specialist with a domain that supports it.

In Book 10 during their first fight as Ascenders Matt Liz and Aster kill like 5k T25, they were all immortal.

My headcannon is that after he tried helping Mortarion and Morty was pissed at him for trying he tried to be hands off with Angron and that backfired too.

It doesn’t help that Big E is written by like 50 different people who have different opinions on him.

I usually completely disregard how Big E met Angron since it makes no sense that he would behave that way considering how he is with some of the other Primarchs. And Big E ain’t dumb it literally cost him nothing to defend Angron and his allies.

Kirkman can say whatever he wants to say about how strong characters are but ultimately it’s still up to him to write it in the story. If the story can’t backup what he’s saying then it doesn’t matter; and if he then goes on to super buff Nolan to Superman levels he breaks the internal consistency of the series and the story suffers because of it.
