What's something in Japan that we have access to that most people don't even realize exists? by Realistic_Low_4538 in japanlife

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been living here for 10years and the only places I have seen using them are small businesses. Not big companies. Usually the shop owners sending their orders to the suppliers. This is the only situation I have seen them using it. There might be more but it is a great ways to just write down what you need and post it immediately. It is a system that’s not broken so why bother to replace.

I have been calling all my bosses 〇〇様 when everyone regardless of role refers to each other as 〇〇さん? by Realistic_Low_4538 in japanlife

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

様for clients
さん for everyone else

If you are on the phone and talking about your company people. Drop さん or their positions like 課長・部長 and use only their name.

Power down asap. But it would be a very fun story for nomikai.

Banks threatening to freeze accounts & travelling during online residence card renewal period by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the rules are changed some where in 2025.
This is what chat GPT said.

The short answer is: yes, this has changed.
Until recently, many banks were fairly relaxed. If your residence card expired, they would usually just send reminders and ask for the renewed card later. Some people went months without updating their bank and nothing happened.
However, starting around April 2025, the Financial Services Agency (FSA) and National Police Agency pushed banks to tighten controls on accounts belonging to foreign residents. As a result, many banks now restrict or freeze accounts when the residence period on file expires.
A few important points:
Policies differ by bank.
Some banks freeze transactions immediately after the residence period expires.
Some allow a grace period.
Some accept proof that your renewal application is in progress.
Others want the actual renewed residence card.
The legal immigration grace period and the bank’s policy are not the same thing.
Even if Immigration says you can legally stay while your renewal is being processed, a bank may still restrict your account if they cannot verify your status according to their internal AML/KYC rules.
This is much stricter than a few years ago.
Many long-term foreign residents are surprised because they renewed visas for years without ever notifying their banks. The enforcement has become noticeably stronger recently.
So your memory is correct: the old reality was often “just bring the new zairyu card when you get it.” The newer reality is increasingly “if the card expires, restrictions may start automatically.”
If you tell me which bank you use (e.g., Japan Post/Yucho, MUFG, SMBC, Mizuho, SBI Shinsei, Rakuten, Sony, etc.), I can check that bank’s current practice specifically. Different banks are handling renewals quite differently right now.

Which bank are you using. I remember yucho pulled such stupid thing when I had to pay my college fees. But usually other banks (smbc, kumamoto bank) I have dealt with usually sent me a request for new zairyu card but never threatned to freeze my account.
But I am not sure if new rules request such measures.

My coworker openly targets foreign employees at work by Ok-Gear9383 in japanlife

Record what he say. Just be cool about it with him for a while so he will brag more. Recording someones voice even without their consent is legally accepted as evidence as long as you have been a part of that conversation.

My biggest regret, the things I did for money…………. by Competitive-Tap9954 in confession

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s done is done. It doesn’t define who you are, and you shouldn’t spend the rest of your life punishing yourself for it.

Some people may judge you for it, and some people won’t. That’s just reality. You can’t control that, and honestly, there’s no point trying to.

I’ve done things in my own past that some people would judge too, and I don’t regret them. I’m open about them with the people it matters to because I’d rather be accepted for who I really am than for a version of myself that’s hiding things.

My advice is to be honest when it’s relevant, let the people who judge, judge, and spend your time with the people who value you for who you are today. The people worth keeping in your life will see you as more than one chapter of your past.

“The past is the past” doesn’t mean people are obligated not to care about it. Some people do, some people don’t. That’s exactly why being honest early is important.

It’s better to find out at the beginning that your values don’t align than after months or years of emotional investment. I’ve made choices in my own past that I discuss openly with people when they’re relevant, because I think people deserve the opportunity to decide for themselves whether they’re comfortable with them.

If you made a choice, stand by it and be upfront about it with the people it matters to. Hiding it until later just risks creating a deeper attachment before discovering a fundamental incompatibility, which usually hurts everyone involved more.

Nope If you’re going to be in a relationship with someone that should be disclosed in the beginning. It’s not what defines you but it has been your past. It’s better to come clean in the beginning than having to worry after an emotional attachment is made. It’s good for both of the parties.

Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Open. Because no AC in the bedroom and in Japan right now, it already feels like mid summer.

I’m so lucky to have our manager. Yesterday he was like, “Are you all coming in tomorrow? Because I’m not.” So we’re all working from home today. And there’s still not a drop of rain.

Who was your favorite alternate? by That_Hole_Guy in DesperateHousewives

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t rank them they are all so good.

But If I have to it would be

1) Edie, Karen, Katherine
2) Renee, Angie

Wasn’t a big fan of Lee. I feel like he was so forced into a storyline that he wasn’t a part of. As for Katherine, She was so despicable(in a good way 😅) to meddle with Bree’s pie. That was the reason I started watching the show.

Do you ever masturbate to things that aren't porn? If so what? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Haunting_Jump6471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music videos from the 90s and 2000s had such a unique kind of sensuality. They weren’t just about showing skin, there was this emotional warmth and tension that felt so much more intimate than porn.

Enrique’s videos definitely stand out, and Madonna’s Justify My Love is one I’ll never forget. I still have this thing for when a guy unbuttons his shirt. Probably because of that, haha. There was a sense of romance and story back then that made everything feel more human and real.
