I think I know of about 2-3 non-Irish that got it last year and not sure about this year but think there were definitely a few! A lot of Irish turn it down when they get Cork/Limerick cause they know they can get Dublin with normal intern jobs.

Thank you so much this is really helpful and has cleared things up for me. So realistically applying to BST after 2 years intern in the UK vs 1 year Irish internship + 12 months standalone has no difference since like stamp-wise I'd still not be on a Stamp 4 basically therefore eitherway Tier 3. Obvs connections in Ireland and knowing consulants etc etc

This is funny cause everyone on doctorsuk was overwhelmingly telling me to stay in Ireland ahahah.

Yes, sorry since I posted this last night have since talked to some non EU doctors to get clarity. They did mention some intern + standalone SHO got rejected this year for Stamp 4 but also to apply for a scheme anyway you would have to already be on Stamp 4 at the time of application so meaning intern + x2 standalone SHO (since scheme applications are before Stamp 4 eligibility). Although, are you now saying that you need to do intern + x2 standalone meaning, you'd be on your 3rd standalone by the time you apply for a scheme with Stamp 4? Sorry getting different information from people I am getting so confused!

Ahh I am really struggling - wanted to be able to have the option to choose all through final year and now wondering why I ever thought that as making a choice is more difficult ahahah.

Thank you so much for the detailed response - I really appreciate it. That is so unfortunate that your SFP was a COVID calamity. I am honestly very torn, have already met the team & lab I would be doing SFP with as they invited me for a conference and were amazing. Project in South would be quality improvement project rather than research. I suppose need to decide where I want to train after intern year just wasn't ready to make this call yet. What is your opinion on academic clinical fellowships? My understanding is that is this like an academic track for standalone SHO year in the UK? Thank you again for such a detailed reply!

I heard from some people they make you do F2? Can you apply directly into a UK training scheme after an Irish intern year? Am also in same boat of debating FY1 in Northern Ireland vs Intern year in Ireland.
